Yes, I do use Decodable Books. I teach Kindergarten and I create my own decodable books based on word family words, high frequency words we have learned and the different letter sound rules we have learned. (Secret Stories by Katie Garner) Each book has it own word list. We sound out and trace each word along with word cards to cut out at home. They use these word cards to play an assigned game with their parents. Each book also has questions from the story I ask and they have to find the answers in their books. (text evidence) Parents can ask these same questions at home followed by their homework page that consist of 2 questions - Ist question ask them to drawing a picture and the 2nd question ask them to writing a sentence .

I love using decodables, they help build readers and provide them with so many reading skills. Especially when they are good decodables.

This is so helpful! I’m a new kinder teacher and still getting familiar with their general capabilities at certain times of year. At what point in the year would you introduce decodables this way?
