Knowing how to write means knowing how to edit and revise! No draft is perfect on the first go, so in this series, we're talking all about editing. I'll use real examples from real writers to explain real solutions!
In this video, we're editing flash fictions from two of my patrons. Let me know if you've got requests for what type of writing we should edit next.

Thanks for this vid! I started getting into flash in my fiction class at my college. My professor was very helpful, he pretty much was the only one, aside from one classmate, who gave me feedback. My first one is The Toy Store based on the Owl City song Fireflies. I entered it in our annual writong contest in the Fiction category. It was placed in fifth place!

- [00:00] 🖊 Editing flash fiction involves condensing the text and ensuring impactful language. - [06:50] 💡 When formatting for publication, use 11 or 12-point font, Times New Roman or similar, and double spacing. - [11:02] 🔍 Avoid "filter" words like "noticed" or "saw," which distance the reader from the story. - [14:05] 📝 Split impactful dialogue with actions or dialogue tags for better pacing. - [17:01] 🌅 Use concise, impactful language in storytelling; remove cliches and unnecessary details.

Aren’t “then” and “simultaneously” both pacing cues? Not saying many aren’t redundant but aren’t there appropriate times for both?

What books on craft have you found to be the most pragmatic and informative? I read a lot of books on craft and most have very little to offer in the way of simple, pragmatic tips. You are so well educated on what certain words do to a scene, the ins and outs of pacing, etc, can you recommend any craft books?
