SAMURAI KAZ ARTS / KAZ KOBAYASHI

SAMURAI KAZ ARTS / KAZ KOBAYASHI

Күн бұрын

In this video I show you BATTO and NOTO, which is drawing the sword and sheathing the sword. BATTO and NOTO are very important basic skills for the samurai sword.
From BATTO we will do SEIGAN-NO-KAMAE. This is one of the most basic stances in samurai sword martial arts. Today's video shows techniques from the Kaz Method, which I developed from my experience in Taté and several disciplines of Japanese sword martial arts.
**Note: in Iaido my version of YOKO-NOTO is called tate-noto.
However, these techniques on my channel are my own method which I have developed called Kaz Method. I am calling it yoko-noto since it slides horizontally (yoko) so it is easy to remember.
Whether the katana is horizontal, vertical or another angle, the principle behind the sheathing is the same. I am not ignoring or disrespecting Budo naming conventions. However, since there are many types of Ryuha (schools of martial arts) each with their own types of naming, it is not possible to satisfy everyone's naming conventions.
I teach the principle behind these techniques to performers so that they can handle any scenario in their work. It is derived from my experience as a performer and a martial artist.
To understand the principle beyond the form, to be versatile in responding to a variety of situations, this is at the root of my teaching.**
Please note, this video is for informational purposes only.
Kaz Kobayashi will not be held responsible for any injuries arising from a viewer attempting these sword techniques on their own.
If you are a beginner, please use a BOKKEN. Using a katana (real or replica) without training can result in serious injury and death. Please be sure to work with a professional trainer when using a katana until you are sufficiently skilled.
You can contact Kaz for lessons or please seek local dojos.
I hope you enjoyed this video.
If you did please hit the thumbs up! Please leave a comment letting me know what you thought about it and what else you would like to see!
And don't forget to subscribe!
Thanks for watching and see you in next video!

I have been watching your channel for a while now... I highly respect your mastery of your technique and wisdom, as well as your wisdom in such a wonderful art of the sword...💯 I have never been traditionally taught to draw/swing/sheathing the sword.... I have always used my own method to perform what my body mechanics to feel my way towards such techniques... I continue to learn and appreciate everything you do and display through your videos...💯 If you would honor me to ask if the following method has a particular name or designation.... (*) My method may be unorthodox and perhaps considered "clumsy" or perhaps "untraditional" when it comes to such an ancient and well developed art of drawing the sword... ...but my favorite method of drawing my sword is to have the sword within sheath with the cutting edge facing down ward facing the ground.... ...essentially the reverse of the technique of how your sword in sheath faces from the beginning. as I grip my sword before I draw...I angle the sword in sheath in more of a 45 degree angle. (it's not always at that exact angle before I draw, due to where I want the arc of my swing as it leaves the scabbard....that's just a general idea of where I begin, before twisting the sword in sheath in the direction of where I actually want to swing as one motion) this preferable method to me has me drawing and attacking generally in an upwards motion at whichever particular angle i am attempting to achieve as it feels a way to pre-counter my opponents initial downward motion attack to either parry their initial attack and attempt to position myself for my initial attack which my 2nd swing would then be in a downward or horizontal attack... I hope im explaining this correctly to paint a more descriptive picture of what I am explaining my method. is this particular technique that I perform have a particular name or designation in any official style? it has a very intuitive and natural feeling to me personally and has been fairly successful against training partners, whom use more refined or traditional techniques... it's very rare of someone whom is quick enough to either defend against this method...but i would be honored to hear your thoughts...💯

Thank you for this lesson. While I do not ever expect to show my form to anyone, it is good to practice for myself.

When drowing the sword out, do you turn the upper body (till shoulders) leftwards around the vertical axis through the "hara", but still keeping the head fixed straight looking foreward?
