Hey guys, sorry I haven't got back to you, but been busy. I will catch up I promise! First of all, I like the three options you guys came up with, but I'd like to pile on with two more names. One, and inhouse, is the forgotten shortstop that we refused to trade, Orlando Cabrera. We've seen last year that he has a long way to go to become a good outfielder. I'm thinking that trying to learn different positions affected his bat. Let's get him back in the infield where he belongs and we can add a switch hitting bat to the equation too. Second, a trade with St. Louis for Brenden Donnelly. Excellent defensive player, left handed bat, .280 hitter with speed. Also a potential lead off hitter, still in his 20s with a lot of team control. 😊

Peraza at 3rd 4 days a week or in a platoon with super utility DJ. Let Oswaldo utility/bench the other days but not gather dust. Go get Soto. I still think Schmidt (if they’re committed to getting Yamamoto) can be packaged with Pierera and salary dump Rizzo. Add 1 more pitching prospect if need be like Beeter but not Thorpe or King. Then go get a 1 year quality serviceable OF to be there until the Martian is healthy. If they splurge on Bellinger have plans to move him to first. And if you get Soto, press forward on a 12 year extension with an opt out after 6 years (5 if he balks). And make a run for Yariel Rodriguez to supplement current ‘24 MLB and AAA almost there relievers.

If you get Soto, he is for one year so you have to go ALL IN so you still need maybe a legitimate lead off hitter or another left bat like Candelario and they need more relief, preferably a legit closer or shut down eight inning guy.

OB% is the most important offensive stat, full stop. You can predict Runs from team OB% accurately. Take pitches, look for something you can drive. If a player doesn't do that who isn't a wizard Shortstop or Catcher, find someone who wants him and trade him.

@rjb7569
@rjb7569 Жыл бұрын
@@croyfrmdao_214 Noone has said he can't play SS well. Gold gloves can be a joke. Clint Frazier was one of three nominated as a RF one year when he was on the Yankees. And that was after he got hammered for blundering out there a bit. They have potentially a better fielding SS in Peraza, per scouting reports about the glove work. Wait to see what happens in the spring. If Torres goes, I think Volpe is moving to 2B. We'll see. No movement yet. Yanks need to shuffle it up. They need an OF. My choice, as it was last off-season, is Bellinger. Still young, former MVP, over his bad shoulder injury now and a 5-tool BALLPLAYER. Excellent CF AND 1B. Counting on Dominguez is not a sure bet. Great potential but coming off the injury will limit him. Yanks can't wait. Bringing in an outfielder who doesn't run well, doesn't field that well, and is better suited as a DH is not the answer, though it's what they might do (SD trade). Don't forget about the Korean OF who is supposed to be a really good player. Could be a sleeper. Not getting much ink in the Hot Stove chatter yet. Also, most think Wells and Trevino will be the catchers. I don't. I think it's Wells and Higgy. Biggest problem with Yanks last year was lack of hitting. Trevino, excellent glove, is not the hitter the other two are. Premium will be on hitting. 3B is another position that mat see an upgrade. It won't be DJ fulltime.

Here's a bracket that showcases two baseball teams. Hint! Hint! Which team won the WS and which team came in 4th with 82 wins and 80 losses? Team # 1 Team # 2 OPS+ OPS+ C 125 C 85 IB 141 1B 94 2B 121 2B 118 SS 125 SS 81 3B 138 3B 96 LF 118 LF 58 CF 93 CF 75 RF 122 RF 175 DH 123 DH 87 Comments: So look at how much better Team #1 is than Team #2. Team #1 is great up and down the line-up. The CF of the 2009 Yankees was a young Melky Cabrera, and he was the only weak link. And, he wasn't that bad! The 2009 Yankees had 103 wins and 59 losses, and were first in the American League East. They beat the Phillies in the World Series four games to two. If you want to stroll down memory lane a little, look at the players we had in 2009 versus the players we have today. Jorge Posada was the catcher versus Kyle Higashioka. The first baseman was Mark Teixeira then versus Anthony Rizzo in 2023. In 2009, Teixeira had one of his best years as a Yankee belting 43 doubles, 39 homers, leading the American League, and driving in 122 RBIs. Compare that with Anthony Rizzo this year. That's Jeter at short stop in 2009 versus Volpe today. Jeter had his usual 212 hits, 107 runs scored, and crisp .334 batting average. And that's Alex Rodriquez at 3B in 2009 versus D.J. Potato today. Johnny Damon was in left, Melky Cabrera was the CF, Nick Swisher was the RF, and of course, Hideki Matsui was the illustrious DH. Substituting for those guys today are Oswaldo Cabrera in left field, Harrison Bader in center, Aaron Judge in right field, and Giancarlo Stanton as the DH. A troubling thing for the 2023 club is that even with Aaron Judge playing right field, the outfield of the 2009 Yankees was much better than the current crew. Boy, could the 2009 Yankee outfield play baseball. The OPS+ of the 2009 are ALL over 100, except Melky Cabrera, who is none-the-less close to it at 93. Only two players on the 2023 Yankees have an OPS+ above 100, namely Judge at 175, and Gleyber Torres at 118. You could also compare the 2023 Yankees with the 2023 Texas Rangers if you wish. The Ranger team in the World Series now is remarkably close to the 2009 Yankees in terms of their outstanding OPS+ performances. The Rangers have seven players with OPS+ numbers above 100, lead by Corey Seager with a 170 OPS+. Marcus Semien, Adolis Garcia, and Mitch Garver also have high OPS+ numbers. But in 2009, the Yankees had much better free agents than they do today, and their homegrown Yankees were much better as well. Anyone interested can use the data in Baseball Reference to compare the Yankees today with their older versions, or with their current competitors today.

Candelario is the worst idea. They need someone at 3rd who can hit higher than Candelario’s .243 career BA and definitely more than his 88 HRs over 6+ seasons. Peraza is a younger, stronger, more athletic option that makes the most sense. DJL is a utility guy AT BEST. He will be 36 by his birthday at the end of May. The Yankees infield should be Wells/Trevino, Rizzo, Torres, Volpe, Peraza with DJL as one of the utility guys. Peraza and Volpe switch off hitting first or second according to who’s hot so they can get on an steal, steal, STEAL. Let Florial man CF until his arms fall off or Dominguez returns. Soto and Yamamoto are NECESSARY.

Yeah, I don't get the people who can't figure out what a no brainer this is. Best on base guy in the league batting in front of the best power hitter of his generation. Seems pretty obvious to me that making that happen is a great idea. For third, I would like to trade for Brendan Donovan from St. louis, he's a lefty, career OBP of .381 and about a .280 or so hitter. Trade Gleyber and play Peraza/Volpe at short and second. DJ likely at first because I think Rizzo goes in the trade for Soto.
@geneticrex
@geneticrex Жыл бұрын
Often times the Yankees are really good at retarding the growth of prospects. It's a rare hitter than can play in spurts and put together numbers and even more so for a young player. It's difficult enough to hit with consistent playing time, so the added pressure to perform with inconsistent ABs, makes it that much more difficult. With Peraza you have the BEST defensive shortstop in the organization, with decent speed and power. With Volpe you have a guy who translates more towards second base with his arm strength. If they have no plans to re-sign Torres, now is the time to trade him since he has value. The Yankees decided to hang on to these guys when there were multiple all-star type players available at their position, so it only makes sense to play them. Volpe got his chance and now it's time for Peraza to get his. If not......then why the hell did the front office choose to keep him??? If they don't feel they can solve third base internally with the wealth of infielders already in the system, then go out trade for one. Since they are FAR from a championship caliber team, they aren't going anywhere next year anyway, so now is the time to see what they have in house, in my opinion.

Peraza isn't the best defensive shortstop in the system. He's great, probably number two, but Roderick Arias is a more gifted defender.
