However, the Bible tells us in James 5:16 that the earnest prayer of a righteous man yields results. We understand from Romans 3:24 that a righteous man is one who is in right standing with God. This means that to pray in the spirit, one must first have a right standing with God, which requires the right posture of the heart. The term earnest is used for a reason; it means the heartfelt and consistent prayer of a person in alignment with God’s will. Another important point is found in 1 Corinthians 14:14-15, where we learn that praying in the spirit is praying in tongues. However, we must be conscious of our heart’s posture even as we pray in tongues, ensuring our minds are engaged as well.
