Opening morning of gun season 3 years ago it was pouring rain. I was debating whether to go out or not cause I only had hanging tree stands and I would be soaked. Long story short, I went out and the rain let off. I was rewarded with a beautiful 8 point buck within half hour of being on the stand. One of my most memorable hunts.

That’s how it works typically, them deer usually lay down during a heavy storm but literally the second after a rain stops can be some of the best hunting period

My absolute favorite time to hunt is right after a rain stops. Get Into the stand with cover of rain and be setup before it stops. Specifically prerut when scraping is at its peak. Seems like buck immediately get up shake off and start opening up and freshening up scrapes. Absolutely love it. Usually action packed hunts…

Opening day is coming October 1st in Indiana. I hunt all public land with a tree climber. We are not expecting any cold snaps in the northern part or the state for another week or so. We do have rain coming in this weekend through next week with highs from the 70s-80s and lows of 50s-60s. Would you chance the rainy days even thought the temperature will still be mildly hot?

Hey opener in michigain is tomorrow, I was wondering when hunters should be starting to use calls? Some people have been saying it’s okay to use a doe bleat on opening day, and others will say they won’t use a call untell the end of oct, do u have any recommendations?
@codydoxtater18943 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with trying a call anytime during the season it's part of the experience but yes they tend to work a little better during the rut

Hi Jeff! I was wondering do you hunt scrapes in the morning or afternoon, and I have a lot of pictures of deer on my food plots in the morning, should I hunt my food plot in the morning?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions97513 жыл бұрын
Hi Isaac it's all about getting in and out without spooking deer. I would hunt the plot in the morning if the deer are not there during the morning when you want to enter the stand. Soon tho....those cruising trails in the woods will be outstanding!

We have success during snow storms too. But the wind has to be down. I've shot one at 20 yds when you could only see 30 yds, no wind, but the snow would vary to maybe a max of 80 yds visibility. Thank goodness chipmunk chattered at it and got my attention....or woke me up

If it fogs up after a rain your scent control better be on par because that scent will lay down with it. Don't care where the wind is blowing they will smell you.
