Without doubt, the best strength educator on the web. These are exactly the kind of things beginners and intermediates need to hear and get into their heads, instead of most of the garbage out there. I had massive success volumising the main lift week to week, then adding reps to accessory work, until the final week going into a Deload where I’d add sets to everything. Simple, but devastatingly effective.

right now I'm doing bullmastiff, it's my first strength program. I'm not against doing volumizing, but his volumes are way too high. Some of the muscles come out to doing like 25 sets per week for stuff like triceps and quads. I'm cutting the developmental variation to 3 sets, and volumizing the accessories. I maybe should do it the other way around. I don't believe in super high volume, but I'm willing to try the volumizing approach.

I ran bullmastiff and my results were similar. Deadlift + 40lbs, Squat + 30, Bench + 15, OHP + 10. Most notably, I added very good size and some fat during the bulk. I think it was very good progress seeing that I broke 300 on bench and hit 440 on deadlift. Maybe a true beginner will experience much larger gains.

I learned about your "volumization" scheme earlier this year this from one of your other videos and put it to use. I added 40lb to my bench press max this year, making 300lb for the first time in my life, at 36 years of age. Waving the volume instead of the weight is a lot less stressful and very very effective.

I’ve had great success with never touching anything all that difficult. For my clients we ramp up into a tough-ish top set each block but that’s really just a measurement of progress to know if what we’re doing is working. The rest is all very submaximal. Crazy how strong you can get with most work being around RPE 6

Thanks, I've been doing 5/3/1 recently, but after the top set and back off sets, I do some more bodybuilding-style work. I've also been adding volume as time goes on. Today's workout was just: 5/3/1 Deadlift + SSL back-off sets, leg extensions x 2, leg curls x 2, single-leg leg press x 2, calf raises x 3, hanging leg raises x 2. In the future I'm planning on adding hack squats if I feel that the volume is too low, and/or increase volume on the other lifts. After I deload (after 2-3 such cycles), I will reset to a low volume and build back up.

If I could only pick one KZbin channel for fitness advice, it would be this one. I started out just listening to all the exercise science data regurgitaters. Sure, I built a good amount of muscle, but I didn't focus at all on any strength gains, AND I stuck to the sets per week/session madness obsessively instead of listening to my body. A lot of these videos are worth several listens.

Hello I am running your program BULLMASTIFF and loving it, very challenging. But I have a question. When going from a phase to phase like week 3 to 4. Should I stick to the weekly weight increase or the % for that week? Because on deadlifts my weight for week 3 ended up being more than week 4. But on squats my weight projected based on week 3 for week 4 is 315. Where as week 4 is 325 How should I add cardio? Like some light at the end of squat day?
@SaintsFPS
@SaintsFPS Жыл бұрын
You start back at the prescribed percentages each first week per wave. That’s because the 1st week per wave should be easy. But if you feel like you gotten a lot stronger, you could maybe just increase your training max a bit when starting a new wave.

@SaintsFPS
@SaintsFPS Жыл бұрын
@@rye-bread5236 When I ran Bullmastiff, i used to do hack squats instead of front squats cause i couldn’t front squat either. Leg presses would be good too. Try front squatting with plates under your heels to elevate them. That’s how I started mastering it and now I can do it without the plates under my heels. Or you could just get squat shoes.

@@markwalker1464 what research? there is almost none on bodybuilders or steroid users. Also, Paul is distinctly in "hypertrophy only" territory with his dogma. When you are trying to increase strength or if you have any concern for skill with squat/bench/deadlift.... none of his current points of view apply. He's a fan of Shieko, which is where I directly pulled the pyramid approach at the end of this video.
@markwalker1464
@markwalker1464 Жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderBromley yes I agree. In the context of strength, volume would generally be the preferred way to go. I might have gotten confused because of the word “growth” in your video. That’s my bad.
@Jones-A
@Jones-A Жыл бұрын
@@markwalker1464 Paul Carter flip flops on everything. He'll change his mind again in a couple of years and call everyone else an idiot. It's beyond me how anyone can consider him an expert after him telling everyone lat pull downs aren't a lat exercise and promoting the one arm pull down as the right way to train lats, only to suddenly change his mind. Flipped completely on that when it was clear to everyone he was wrong and didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Only 4 years ago he was writing articles on T-Nation. Then he flipped and changed his opinion on everything training related and funny enough had programs to sell. He used to laugh at people that used studies as proof, but now he blindly follows studies. So much so he wrote an article on a study that he thought proved him right on volume, only for the study to be retracted due to major issues with it. Paul still hasn't got training principles that he can stick to.
