I retired at 53 thanks to my wife. It wouldn't have been possible without her company stock plan because it far exceeded the 401k we both have. She is six years older than me and was sick of the day to day grind but we had no clue if our savings and investments would be sufficient, we finally went to a financial management meeting and we make all decisions for a profitable Investment and prepared a plan for our early retirement. We should have done this years ago but never considered that we might ever have enough to retire early and I thank God and my wife for the ability to do investment . I’m a dividend investor, my wife and I have invested in the s&p500, both through my TSP with the government and through fidelity in her 401-k. Cashed out 370k from the S&P and invested with a full service broker.. Until about 3years ago we were 100% in the s&p after over 30 years. I’m retiring at the end of the month at 59, while my wife will retire next year at 54. We currently have 5.7 million in out tex deferred savings.

You can also park your money in Your spouse's ( House Wife) name if you have built up her income over years. Also you can put spare money in PPF which gives good return.,even if you are in zero tax zone.
