A discussion on why old Android games don't work anymore (the Dalvik compiler mostly), and how to overcome that obstacle today. I play Samurai Vs Zombies Defense, Chaos Rings, NOVA 3, Zombie Smash, etc to demonstrate how this works. There are some compromises, but these games can be played one way or another today.

For clarity, up to 3:29 I am explaining why the old games don't work so you understand why, specifically on Android, there is a period of time where new devices simply can't play games before that time (around 2014). that is, unless they were updated by the dev. The list starts at the time mark though.

Years ago I played and love the series called Zenonia on my iPod. The first one was released on phones, but also PSP and even the DSiWare so I can emulate it through those platforms. 4 and 5 are still in the store, but 6 was taken down. 6 from what I know was completely online so I doubt I can actually play that one. I just want to play 2 and 3 again. They were so much fun and I never actually got to beat them. Thank you a lot for this. PS. Stuff like this is the reason why I am not the biggest fan of mobile games. There are many that are great fun, but there is always the chance they can be taken down or through an update and you'll never be able to play them again. Even if you paid for them. That just sucks to me.

There's actually a forth option that dosen't require old hardware or the use of a pc, if you have a modern device with decent specs there's an app called VMOS PRO. It enables you to run a virtual machine right on your android it has options to run Android 4.4, 5.1 and 7.1 and allows you to have upto 2 virtual machines setup and loaded on your device without a subscription. So far I've had a good experience with the apps I've tried, setup is quick and easy and you can boot up a VM faster than an old device powers on.

Honestly its really cumbersome to get this working. I've been on the look out to run deadspace, mass effect: infiltration, choas Rings (3 games), asphalt 6, monopoly , need for speed most wanted,pursuit, and shift, Nova 1, 2, and 3 , modern combat 3 and 4 and 5, Batman,amazing spiderman 1 and 2.And it seems that between kitkat 4.4 and Marshmallow there were some drastic changes that there's simply no way to run them all on one device. Bluestacks never works as it should and comes with some bloatware. I've bought a bunch of devices and installed different OS along the way and it never works the way I wanted. The best one I have is the samsung s3 but the screen is tiny. I'ved looked into converting into a tablet or a tablet with the same specs and have come up short. Your best bet is to see who's selling old hardware and buy it cheap and run whatever games work on them like a libary. So far I have the iconia hd,shield tablet,Memo pad, asus tf 101, s3, note 4,5 and just have them with the apk installed. There's no way to get an all in one device to preserve these games.

I have this old game called "Empire Defense" and I am looking through playing it again because it was my most favorite game when I was a kid. @@Clownican I didn't really see any misteps myself, there just wasn't a market for their angel. iOS took the premium closed market position and Android took the open source free for everyone position. Microsoft tried doing a "developer focus" which isn't really a market. You can cater to devs all you'd like, if there's not enough users, you're gonna have a tough time. The product was sound though and the developer ideas were really good.

There are two emulators on Google play store that will do that 1. J2ME loader is a Java mobile emulator that emulates java games from that time. 2. EKA2L1 is a symbian emulator that emulates the different symbian systems including Nokia N-Gage.

By the way, when you install the installer it actually is bluestacks 4. I think they changed the file. When you load up the installer it shows a 4 on the blue stacks; I just now noticed this.

but i have a different problem.old dragon mania is payable with my android 12 phone but the problem is the screen as the phone is too long for it and when you touch the screen, it affect like 1cm to the left so i can play properly(there is a button to the corner that i can't touch so i can't play at all) is there any way to play it normally??

There was a game I played back then in 2013 called Blastron. Absolutely fun and one of my childhood favorites. However, the game got shut down in 2014 because of cheaters and didn't feel like maintaining the game anymore. However, I have a valid apk file and an obb file that downloaded and installed correctly but when i go to launch it, it begins to load and then crashes. I am on android 9. What can I do?

There's nothing you can do. I've had a couple of old games that I just ran on an old phone that I had laying around with 4.4 KitKat

Can this work for apps that require an Online Connection and are discontinued such as Pokemon Duel and Dash Tag? I played a bit of Duel in 2017 and was planning on returning in 2021 when the app was shutdown in either 2019 or 2020. And i wanted to return to Dash Tag, but the app is offline and replaced with a different App.

Download the VMOS Pro apk and set up a virtual android running android 4.4 I use it for the original zenonia as well as a few other old games that won't run on the newer android versions

​@@EliJP37this might be a year too late, but I got no problem playing Zenonia 1~3 with VMOS pro on an Poco X3 pro. there's some occasional crashes but that's it. It's probably the best way to play these games afaik.

Using an emulator on pc maybe the only choice for now. Old devices with old android versions mostly have battery problem, or stiff control because their screens were used alot. My good old game that i want to play again - gravity guy 2. Nowhere trusty to be found, also all crashed when starting the app. It was a good game as i remember it, even better than jetpack joyride.

Ill add onto this with a very simple one for old and discontinued games. What ive done is downloaded the apk files for said game and force installed it till it was a app and obviously when you would click on it would bring up the pop up saying its not avaliable. So what i did was went into the developer settings on my s23 ultra and turned on the setting close to the bottom called, disable app compatibility policies. And it works like a charm but depends on what game you chose. Anything before version 3 i havent managed to find a way like he said.

There was this Pac-Man Championship Ed. Demo game I've played before. I believe I've played it on a huawei prism, or some other old mobile device. From what I remember, is that the game, instead of using sounds from the xbox 360/arcade version, it had some different uses of sound effects, I've tried to look deeply for this version, since I couldn't recall what that version was. I'm hoping someone could reach out and find this version I've been trying to look for, if anyone has an old phone with the same pac-man game :( (Sad face is because I'm not sure, if it's anywhere possible to find this type of version around the internet since things like pac-man ce & 2 show up on most sites instead of the original championship game)

Android sucks for games,also there are games that work on android 8 and 9 but not works or does not work fine on android 11+ ie babylonian twins and giana sisters even they were removed from playstore for any device ...wtf ? the same thing for games like "never alone" and of course there are many more, the only way to play them using real hardware is using a good and fast device which runs android 8 ie the redmi note 5 pro or the galaxy s9 or similar device

Part of it is probably complexity it in the OS and more than likely part of it had to do with the litigation they had with Oracle a number of years back. I don't remember the details of the case but I think it was around Java and I believe the compiler was involved. If that was the case then it was probably best to just make a clean break.

For me when I try and load up ZombieSmash on Bluestacks 3, it loads pretty quick but gets stuck on the Zynga logo screen. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I've been trying to find a way to play this game for ages and this is the closest I've gotten, lol. Did you set the settings a certain way?

If you grabbed BlueStacks v3 it should just work. You may have grabbed v4. I had a link to v3 in the video description that could be used.

when i loaded an apk file into bluestacks, Baseball superstars 2011, it just showed a black screen and then closed.

Did you use BlueStacks 3? It's harder to find but there's a link in the description. Showing a black screen is what I would expect BlueStacks 4 to do because it's based on ART and just errors out to that.

@@pixel0 Yes, I did. The other file that I have brings up a loading screen from the game, but then an error shows up that says it cannot connect to Market and that I won't be able to make in app purchases. Shortly after that it crashes.

I got that one running in bs3 but it was a rough experience. All those mouse clicks..... Try reducing the resolution, that greased the wheels for me a bit in some cases. Not sure if it will help you though.

welp. i found out why it wont run: "Once purchased for $0.99 (ad-free unlike iOS) you’ll be required to download an additional 55MB or so of game data for the impressive graphics used in the game, but that is to be expected with a game of this level."
