If you don't have the appropriate inking items for aging your ephemera, you can use brown eye shadow and either your finger or a makeup sponge to lightly mark the edge of your art.

New or old Seed Packages. When I inherited my Grandmother's seed box, I discovered a lot of lovely old images on the seed packets. That made me curious so I went "shopping" in my seed catalogues. Yes, I have ordered seeds I had no intention of planting, just for the packaging!

Some great ideas here, thank you xx. Something I do is to print on tea-dyed paper. I tea-dye ordinary printer paper (just the cheap stuff). Make sure it's bone dry, then iron it. It's important that the edges are smooth, so iron the edges especially and don't try to print on any sheets which have torn edges. It doesn't matter if the rest of the paper is a bit wrinkled. I print all sorts of images I find online (make sure they are copyright free if you're not paying for them), and they look great. Maps look good! Or you can photocopy images you already have, just put the tea-dyed paper into the printer first. There are lots of videos on KZbin which show how to tea-dye paper.

I watched this video before I went on my morning walk. Along the way I collected 2 pieces of paper (litter) to use in collages which I might not have done without this video. Another resource to add to your list….

Absolutely wonderful video with a lot of tips and inspiration. I would like to add a couple of things: 1. to make a white paper look vintage, besides blending with the "Vintage photo" ink, or any other brown Rangers ink, you can use your own black coffee that you brew in the morning. Just a few brush strokes on the ages and let it dry. If it warps a little and tears - even better. 2. The best collection of vintage, real vintage images, like from the 18th century, on ANY possible theme is The Graphics Fairy absolutely free to print out. My first go-to when I need an image. I have used them for years and still can't get enough of them. Hope it helps. Thank you so much I just subscribed to your channel and newsletters -excited. Marina😘

Great tips and easy to do. I only have one more thing to add to the vintage ideas. I keep a spray bottle of coffee with a titch of alcohol in it to spray anything and everything to age it. It just make everything look old. Book pages, copy paper, fabric, lace, string, seam binding or anything you can think of.
@MargareteMiller2 жыл бұрын
Ooooh! Nice one!! I like that idea. How do you keep the nozzle from getting clogged?
@maryvaszi87422 жыл бұрын
@@MargareteMiller it doesn't get clogged and the alcohol keeps it from going bad. I have had coffee in there for months at a time and it keeps really well.
@flowerlila2124811 ай бұрын
@@MargareteMiller - just brush the fresh coffee with a brush or take a freshly brewed black tea bag (whatever you drink) over the paper and let it dry. I just posted it above.

Estate sales are probably one of the easiest places to find ephemera I've found and fun to go to. Also when I try to match colors I try to remember the color wheel and stay within an analagous hue range to compliment the piece if I can't find the color I want/need..

Just watched you video and found a few interesting ideas, just a few things I have picked up with regards to printing images using and ink jet printer, if you want to add colour to your image with a “wet” medium first run your paper through a laminator or iron with a hot iron (place another piece of paper over the one you are using) this heat sets the ink so it won’t be affected by the medium. Secondly if you do print onto white paper or have an image of page that is too white or not vintage looking enough use distress ink vintage photo and a blending tool and colour your page using a light hand until you have to tone you want.

I got a lot of old books, maps, music cards, letters and photos,from estate or garage sales, and when family members pass away, or are cleaning out. I beg friends and family to save cancelled postage stamps for me. You can use shoe polish or cream to age papers. You can also use most ink pads other than the Ranger/Tim Holtz/Distress ones to age/edge your papers.

Great ideas for making and stamping ephemera. I just scored a lovely old book (Reader's Digest) that was being used as a decorative piece. The cover had been painted and an element glued to it. It was the only one of 7 that had aged paper in it. The estate sale personnel couldn't understand why I wanted just this one book. I showed her the yellowed paper inside as compared to the others and advised I would be using the vintage paper in art projects. It was worth the $5 she charged me for it, as now I have 400 pages to use. Thank you for the stamping tips.

Am I the only person who kind of "freaks out" about using photographs of people? (Or copies of photographs of people) I feel that I would be taking something very personal from them, without permission. Like a piece of their soul. This concern is not part of my cultural heritage (I think Native Americans and others believe this kind of thing). It's just something I feel.
@MargareteMiller2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a problem with using old photos. Actually, I feel the opposite way. I/we get to see the faces of people who aren't around anymore. They get to be seen, and sometimes get their name read aloud again (if it's written on the back of the photo). I think it's a nice way to recognize someone again, rather than have their existence fade away.
