This tutorial shows how to make 3 different simple settings for Marquise Cabs. For materials, I used 16 and 18 gauge sterling round wire, 14 gauge sterling square wire, 22 and 26 gauge sterling sheet, and 3/16 (4.76 mm) fine silver bezel strip in 26 gauge. I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande.
It is important to use safe practices when dealing with fire, sharp tools, and chemicals. Here is a video on safety: • General Silversmithing...

Nice unique settings Chad. The prong setting is cool. Like you said fingers loading the stone in place but I do really like the folded over tabs and putting the 45 degree corners on the added to the finished piece. Thanks for this!!

Fab! I really love the one with the 6 prongs wrapped around each end. I have a lovely faceted labradorite marquise cab that I’ve been wanting to try and that is perfect for it. Trust me to pick the hardest one to try… On the 2nd one if you left the gaps in the ends without the tabs would the stone still be secure? Just wondering if it is possible to leave the ends showing.

Thanks! The tabs are doing all the work of holding that stone in, so no:)

Can you ask about your gifted dropper? Would love to have something like it! Even an eye dropper can add too much flux sometimes. And forget about pepe tools dropper bottle, it pours out!

Hi Chad, great video as always. I wanted to ask a question about your torch. You mentioned that it is a Smith’s Oxy -Acetylene torch. I only see one knob on the torch to adjust the gas? Does it work on oxygen from the atmosphere? I would love to know which model it is as I am wanting to buy a new torch. Also, are you able to use it to melt silver for pouring? I have a propane torch that draws oxygen from the atmosphere, but it doesn’t get hot enough to melt 50 grams of silver in a crucible. I would so appreciate your advice. Thanks again for the great Chanel 😊

Hello Rick. It's Actually the Smith "Silversmith" model which is an Acetylene/air torch. The previous name for it was the Smith "Handi-heat" torch. It's not as hot as an Oxo-Acetylene torch, but plenty hot enough to melt 2 or 3 ounces of silver. Hope this helps:)

I’ve been using Handy Flux to protect the silver, but it is pretty thick and sometimes, the solder floats for awhile. What new flux are you trying?

Not yet. I'll try to remember next time I'm at an auto parts store. I kind of like the prong piece. It looks like little hands reaching around from behind:)
