Hi! My S8's display went off in May but I somehow managed to backup in my phone's storage and Google drive. I wasn't able to buy a new phone immediately due to lockdown and just bought S20+ 2 days ago. I wasn't able to restore backup via Google drive as it was stuck on 'restoring messages' and then just stopped and proceeded to open WhatsApp without restoring anything. So I uninstalled WhatsApp and copied the backup file from my old phone's database to the new one. It stuck at 24% so again (after trying multiple times) I uninstalled WhatsApp and used OTG/SD card method and copied the entire WhatsApp folder from old phone to new one as some people suggested but it stuck at 31% and eventually opened WhatsApp profile again because it wasn't able to restore. I can't see anything on my old phone and I've been logged out of it anyway because it was opened on another phone so what else can I try?

if you have another phone, try to restore there, and if you manage to do so, make a new backup .

I copied whatsapp folder on SD card, installed WhatsApp and waited till it made a new folder on internal storage (asked to use backup from Google Drive), closed the app, copied old database folder files in new database folder and then opened the app. It asked to retrieve data from internal storage, I said yes and it worked. It stopped at 39% and I waited for 10-15 minutes then closed the app. When I opened it, it had retrieved data and I had logged in 😊

@@msreddevil thanks for sharing! I finally succeed to do that too, in a different and more comlex way. I used WazzapMigrator guide (www.wazzapmigrator.com/faq/whatsapp-local-backup-not-found): Disabled Google drive from PC and download Whatsapp 2.18.248, local backup found, backup restored,I deleted the app, and then reinstalled from google play, and backup found again. I guess both methods are good.

The 3rd technique, can it be done using an OTG drive? Can I just copy the "database" folder which contains the .db file? Should I paste the folder in the internal memory? After i apply the command of transferring sms messages a notification pops up in the destination new phone about an app called "connector". The problem is that i have allowed everything on that app, but i cannot select it as a default app for sms messages, or maybe i don't know how to do it. I would gently ask for you help in this case.
