I am using this switch to turn on a soldering fume extractor fan that is dual-powered (12v DC brick or 3x 18650 rechargeable lithium batteries) utilizing a low-voltage disconnect circuit that prevents the batteries from being drained too low. This is by far the best video explaining how to wire this switch. Again, THANKS!! Stay safe, my friend!

This is the most helpful video I've seen on LED push lights, I want to make a little board for my kid to be able to just press buttons as he likes to do that. I wouldn't have had the confidence to do it without this video, if I could ask one question it would be as each button is 12V does that mean you need 24V for two buttons? Sorry if that seems dim but I've got no electronics experience.

Yes, the 12 volt led light .. is independent of the internal latching switch. But you won't be able to tie the 2 circuits together, for the led to cycle on or off wth the switch itself.

Hi, awesome vid. I am a bit concerned/unsure abt wiring when using an(any) led based switch. Some if not most switch are rated low and some are as low as 0.5A. i normally use 14-18awg cables depending on load. Q: switch amps rating based on load amp draw. What are your thoughts? Worry: - fried/melted switch over time. - fried wire harness.
@kootenayboy4 жыл бұрын
As far as load I really never ever go near the max amp load Im fond of a switch per set of lights usually the ones Ive bought are in around 15 to 40 amp Ill toss in a relay in a heartbeat especially on big draw devices like winches etc even for LEDs relays are cheap like borscht these days so why not if your worried go bigger gauge wire it usually wont hurt and gives you personally peace of mind For soldering Ive wired quite a few and have never had an issue the trick is a hot iron and thin solder so your contact time is minimal pre tin the tip to increase the surface area of the soldering iron so when you touch it to the post the heat transfer is quicker then tap the solder on your done. If your really worried I attach metal alligator clips to the post or wire for example then Im using heat shrink on short wire ends Im soldering I attach a couple clips between the solder point and the heat shrink so it does not shrink in place then I grab the connection right after with needle nose pliers to sink any heat out quick. same with the post if your worried about heat damaging the leds put a metal alligator clip between the point of solder and the switch you can clip another one to the first for greater heat adsorption. but like I said I have never had that issue I move pretty quick

Greetings @UCH6JE_0RWLLGhe8NHWWzvRA, I'm trying to figure out how to trigger a relay using this 5 pin so I dont carry all the voltage through the switch; I can run it through the relay. In your example, if I wanted to trigger a relay, would I run the green wire to the 86 post on the relay? My thought process is: BATTERY -> In-Line FUSE -> 12g ran to the rear of the vehicle -> 30 post on relay. 87 post would power the LED lights once triggered by pressing the switch. 85 post is ground so the neg (-) on the LED would tie in there.
@kootenayboy4 жыл бұрын
Its pretty easy just keep it simple the same way you would use this switch to power a light you use to power the relay its a trigger (depending on the setup you desire switch in = on or switch out = on etc) instead of the switch turning the light on you use it to turn the relay on and then the relay sends the power to the load (light etc) you want the relay as close to the batter as possible and then run your wire to the load from there that also makes it easier to wire the switch in as well. at first glance it looks like your thoughts on the posts are on point (depending on the relay some I've noticed are a little different though they say they are JD1914 some label the posts different (hence my color coding lol) the NEG "should" be fine in most situations if its a NEG ground you can mount a ground wire just about anywhere ie a screw into anything metal as long as its clean and not rusted I trust this more than tying into existing wiring now days it was easy on old muscle but the new computer cars can buss etc add a ground and your radio only plays chinese news or some Sh!__ lol sounds like you have it figured :)

If you stop at 3:12, you could use that as a reference. But you would have the led wired as normal. 12v-neg to ground, 12v pos to power. The - is common, which would be the load (device you're trying to power). NC would be supply 1, NO would be used for supply 2.

Hi, I’m trying to put together a project and I’m a bit confused with these buttons, not entirely sure if they will work. I hope you can clarify. On one hand, I need to connect on/off 2 terminals (A and B), these carrying 12v. But I also want to have the visual feedback of this on/off operation, done with separate terminals (lets say connecting C and D), as the button requires 5v (instead of 12v). Is this doable with these 5 pin buttons? I’m asking because at the beginning you mention that RED is just to power the led. This means that is posible to have a separate switching path with different voltage? I hope I’m clear, what i need is to use buttons within a circuit where the voltage changes from section to section, but the voltage to feed the buttons' leds need to remain the same, so I guess I need 2 connection paths within each button, and I’m not sure if these do the trick. Thanks.

Hi I have that switch (2 of them) and im using that on my e-scooter. I really wanted it set up so that the switch LED only lights up when key is depressed and lights off when in "off" position. I looked at your wiring and "I think" (correct me if wrong) you've seriesed the button LED and the load so the button only turns the LED on when the load is also turned on. MY inquiry is that how do you suggest I do that when the button LED voltage is 12v and the source voltages are 5v (and the other is 0.9v)? just a bit of clarification, I use the switch to turn on the dual motor mode and the other for low speed mode hence they are both connected to the controller. I've tested their voltages and they are 5v and 0.9v. My main idea is to use a relay switch (for switching a 12v source on and off) in series to the controller and switch. When the switch turns on, it will also activate the LED. The issues is this is rather a more complex process and albiet unrefined in my opinion. Also it endangers the scooter controllers if anything goes wrong. Also while this might work for 5v as there are low voltage triggered relay that can go as low as 3v, I don't know any relay switches that can go lower than 1v. Any ideas?

Im going to venture a guess that they do not make many that will not be able to handle most common loads for most peoples applications, just because the cost of the HD are so low and the specs so high the tech has changed so much now days that even reg duty are better than old school super duty. way way back one of my first switches caught fire in the dash because I had so many lights attached now that same switch could handle 10 times more because the loads draw SO little with leds etc. unless your running a winch or big motor off it Id not worry at all :)

I bought a 12 volt cigerett lighter adapter thats supposed to transfer 12 volts but it fried the glass fuse inside itself. looking at the fuse it says F3AL250V. from my understanding and googling everything a car fuze for 12 volts needs a 6A not a 3A. but what do i know? if you know plz lmk!
@kootenayboy3 жыл бұрын
hmmmmmm I would think you may need to check the car instructions itself maybe its got some can bus type situation where they have made it so the power only flows one way and that's OUT not in. the newer cars get tricky my Durango if I add or subtract an inch of wire it Fracks everything up because the computer uses the resistance in the lines to dictate how it operates I added a few inches to a tail light fix and it affected the timing the fuel pump the dash lights the firing order all sorts of crud so Im very cautious giving advice. I usually suggest making your own fresh install like make your own power outlet direct to the battery for your situation a dedicated stand alone line it would work both ways of course but separate from the car wiring harness
