I do the barrier film, except I put it starting at the middle ring over the power bolt, and another piece coving the entire grip and skip the bag all together. bandage wrap, and done

this video helped me so much, so many people just say you need to use autoclave, but my machine is the Ava Hulk, and you can't even change the grip. I always clean before and after and wrap my machine properly.

The people who tell you to ‘use an autoclave’ very rarely tell you that you also need to clean and cavitate the items prior to putting them in the autoclave! Imo, they’re all just repeating stuff they’ve heard online from ‘experts’ without actually understanding the process at all. They’re just trying to sound clever tbh. Ignore them. Tattooing is a clean process NOT a sterile one. Only your ink and needles are sterile anyway (paper towel and cling isn’t for instance). Make sure you barrier the machine properly (barrier film NOT a clip cord bag) and clean it properly after (and before) each use. 👍

There’s no biofilm being used in the video. Just standard clip cord sleeves and XL clip cord sleeve.

Dental syringe sleeves work well (check Amazon), they are a size between standard clip cord sleeves and the big boss sleeves.

How do you prevent internal contamination when you’re unclogging/cleaning needles and the plungers are making contact with your gloves/tray? Are you degloving and grabbing a new needle every time you suspect any clog/issue? I’ve had sessions where I’ve had to unclog/clean the needle 50x in a single session and can’t imagine not touching the plunger. I break down my machine fully and disinfect everything after each session because touching the plunger absolutely contaminates the internal components. The FK machines are all sealed and don’t allow for cleaning of the internals though, right? Thoughts?

If you are following the correct procedure for infection prevention and control then you would be removing the gloves and putting fresh ones on to ensure the rear of the plunger is being handled in a sanitary way. I would also suggest having a separate area for your carts so they are away from potential contamination and make sure it’s handled correctly. If your needles are clogging up that much then I would suggest you take a look at what you are using. I haven’t had a clogged needle in years. I used plenty kitchen roll and Cheyenne needles. If I do on the off chance get a gloved needle then I will swap it out for a fresh cartridge rather than risking contaminating the inside of my machine. If you are using the correct infection prevention and control procedure, appropriately wrapping and creating a barrier along with using membrane cartridges and handling everything appropriately. You should not have any contaminants on the inside of the machine. I’ve opened up my fkirons flux and there was zero dirt/contaminants inside. Incidentally there is a way to open up the flux, it just voids the warranty of the machine. I would also like to add that a basic level of infection prevention and control training is something all Tattoo artists should have as it would give everyone a better idea and understanding that tattooing is an aseptic procedure and not a sterile procedure. It would educate people on how to clean and handle their work stations and tools in a manner that will break the chain of infection.

I do cosmetic tattooing in areas that are prone to dry skin, oil build-up and areas with hair, which leads to much more clogging of the needle cartridges, so I’m constantly cleaning them and removing the debris. Like I mentioned, because I know I’m contaminating the inside of the machine, I break it down completely after each session to disinfect it, which is something most artists in my niche don’t do unfortunately. I’m not sure of a way around this, as I get debris in my cartridge every single session-aside from going through countless cartridges. Any suggestions? Also, I’d love to look into one of those prevention classes to better understand the science behind it all; are you aware of any good online courses for that? Thanks again-been binging your channel since I found it recently and your engagement with subscribers is a big part of that.

I’ll have a look for classes and post them on our Instagram. In the UK the royal society of public health has a level 2 infection prevention control procedure course and exam. That’s been specifically tailored to special procedures such as tattooing. Ultimately if you are getting your needles clogged up on the regular then you just have to make sure you handle the equipment appropriately to avoid contamination. If that means changing globes then that’s what you have to do. Or you can open up the flux and clean it internally which will void the warranty

Love it ! I use same method but I use a 1 1/4 grip sleeve box of 100 from king pin supplies and I use barrier film like you ! Just when we got these figured out good now we have the newly shaped Exo coming out April 15th 😉

The foam ones? Dark lab supplies but other brands are available in different supply company’s. It’s just a foam grip.

Nice video! You can also save money on disposable grips by folding a paper towel 2x (if you have the rectangular smaller sheets) or 4x (if you have the bigger square sheets) horizontally then wrapping it around the machine and securing with adhesive wrap. I call it the poor man’s grip, but it works phenomenally.

I am new so this might be a dumb question but after you wrap how do you puncture the hole to insert the cartridges in the least messy way. Also could you make a follow up video of which order you unwrap these after the procedure? Like do you change gloves before unwrap, which order of the wrap will you be remove them? Where to hold while removing the wrap? Etc.

You can pop a hole with scissors or a cart. We can look at doing a follow up video later down the line for sure.
