3 Wrong ways of learning books:- 1. Summary - you can't learn everything in summary. 2. Audiobook - You can't focus in audiobook. 3. Read whole book - if you are not learning new things quit that book.

I have felt this way since I was 12 years old and I have never been able to describe the feeling, but during the read and after the read I just feel this kind of pain in my stomach and also in my chest sometimes when I think about certain scenes from the book and sometimes I can never put my finger on what exactly it was that caused the pain. I also notice I get very saddened by significant transitions from one life stage to another, and huge time jumps especially if they’re by the end of the story. I’ve analyzed the heavy feeling my whole life and a couple of thoughts of mine is that it’s 1. A form of maybe longing for something more in my own life because I realize how empty it is while reading and subconsciously compare my own day to day events to the ones that were so emotionally charged in the book. I recognize I rarely experience such emotions in real life and wonder if I ever will. This, mixed with 2. a connection to the characters because my brain can’t distinguish them from real friends because it reacts the same way as it would towards real people due to empathy to what I read they experience. But I also think that the 3. theme of the book can subconsciously touch a weakness, an old scar or some kind of trauma within us that we haven’t processed yet. I get this sometimes with books where the characters make some kind of choice that I felt was a strange turn of events which leaves me confused or disappointed, like this recent book “Journey” by Danielle Steel. It was about this beautiful woman in her 30s being stuck in an abusive relationship, then thinking she escaped when another man saves her. He is rich and handsome, gets her everything she ever wanted but soon she realizes he is abusing her too after 10 years but mentally. I couldn’t put the book down, her emotions were described in so much detail as we were gaslighted and manipulated with her. During the entire book she has a friend, a 60 year old man who comforts her and helps her gather the courage to leave but then suddenly they develop feelings and it just did not go the way I expected as I didn’t see him in that way at all and when their encounters turned romantic, it just didn’t sit right with me and I haven’t been able to get over it or stop thinking about the book. It had a very happy ending, she got the family she always wanted with him but I just felt this heartache for some reason. I have no idea what that’s due to but I’m guessing it’s maybe a fear of the unpredictability of life? So, point number 4. for me would be, how you never know where life can take you and when you have followed a character throughout such big changes you feel like you have traveled for years with them and when you see where they end up it’s like you have too and you have to accept this destiny now. Whew, if anyone managed to read this!

The 2nd one is totally wrong in terms of fiction books, there a lot of amazing audiobooks that engage you throughout. I agree that non fiction books need proper notes and highlightings to absorb it properly, but that's not the case with fiction books. Also research suggests that listening triggers the same sensation as reading a book.

My way of absorbing information is through audio. In fact, when listening to an audio of a book, it's easy for me to imagine and create visualization in my head and process it well. You can't do delicate stuff that requires much attention. But you can get ahead just listening to the book and getting some work done along with it.

1. Books to listen on Audible-- fiction books-- like Cormoran Strike, fantasy novels, mushy novels-- which you don't have to retain-- but makes your evening walk pleasurable. 2. Books on kindle-- Bill Bryson, travellogues, William Dalrymple, Amitava Ghosh. -- Books which you have to chew to understand. 3. Books where you want smell the paper-- Yuval Harari-- chew and ruminate, Vikram Seth, Amitava Ghosh-, Hemingway.

I especially agree just listening and reading summaries can not even replace the deep sweetness of when you are reading and you got entangled into writers words and his thinking pattern . Moreover , to read is the way of deep connection with the writer . As really books speak. But the one who puts his ears onto their silent voices can hear these soothing words . ❤❤❤

I would scientifically differ with the second point. Our human brain is very powerful. Though we are "consciously" doing some other work while listening, we are still "subconsciously" listening to the audio and our subconscious is still absorbing all the knowledge. The only difference is that when we are actually implementing something from the book , we would be implementing it subconsciously wonder how we did it, still it doesn't really matter as long as we are gaining out of it. Our human brain is the best piece of technology the human kind can ever experience. I urge you to try this and share your experience.

So, I research on KZbin, google and other social media pages just to make sure I will read something interesting because I become bored very fast...

Like reality is that we read books so we can feel something and learn something when we just read it for interest it only means we wanna discover what are the thoughts that was putted in the book while writing it, and thus we just need to remember where and what it teaches us and deal with the situation if we ever came up with anything happened in the book

It depends on intention what u are reading for.. to solve a problem, for personal development or crawling for content to make online videos like you do.. :) Anything to be wrong or right depends on intention and even not right or wrong but you need to change the process to achieve your intention to what you are reading it for.

Actually it depend from person to person. The way people learn is characterized in three ways visual, auditory and kinesthetic. You may be a visual learner so you may absorb the knowledge by reading the book, at the same time some may be more receptive to the audiobook and some learn by doing the things that they learn from the book. Usually the best way to speed up the learning is to utilise all the three forms of learning.

I feel attacked haha. I subscribed to audiobook services such as Audible and Scribd to be able to finish many books throughout the year, get info that is practical and relevant to my life at the time and move on. I should probably change my strategy then?

listening to audiobooks isn't inherently bad - it's multi-tasking, especially with high level tasks. You should be fine listening to audiobooks while doing everyday chores like folding laundry.

Not necessarily, everyone is different. Actually it's a brilliant way to fastrack your learning. Though it make look like it's less effective, but when you experience reading a book both visually and auditoryly you learning speed literally gets fasttracked. Use what works for you. Also as. I commented earlier, I would scientifically differ with the second point.
