I got Concerta first at the nurse so she could check blood pressure and such. We found a good dosage and I got a prescription. I didn’t think about the fact it was another brand/copy. Started feeling angry on the inside, skipping some important meetings so we lowered the dosage. Then I got it from my nurse again and she said our region had made a deal with the other cheaper supplier and some experienced side effects. Then it clicked, the original would cost me thousands every year unless the doctor could motivate it and then check a box so only the original was given. Still didn’t feel right so I got to test Elvance and with Attentine as a boost in the afternoon it worked lots better. Chronic extreme pain for two years and burning out fighting for me and my sisters rights has made me less productive and much more sensitive and angry again but it probably still helps so I don’t explode. I just wish I could have that period with pain always there but under control and me feeling more positive and getting more done.

Something I think I should say is that, though I think medication is really helpful and an essential part of dealing with ADHD, it doesn’t automatically fix things. What I’ve felt is that it makes easier to be in a state of mind where you start seeing the time-wasting patterns and understanding the hidden emotional reasons why some apparently very simple tasks seem so difficult. If you guys are interested in this, look for information on The Wall Of Awful and on Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria.

It worked incredibly well. I am able to do things I wasnt able for all my life but normal people were able to do. I kinda learned how to live with this condition so when I started taking concerta I had both tools: the knowhow and the help from the medicine. All my life changed and I am really happy with al that I achieved. Now I am a little concerned because my doctor (a new one) wants to change to strattera to try to low my anxiety. I don’t know if this will jeopardize my performance in all my activities. Any thoughts?

Hey, i will get my first stimulant prescription in about a month. I was on Strattera for 2 years, and i can't say it helped me all that much. When i started taking it i felt slightly increased focus (which is the main symptom of adhd i struggle with). After a couple of months, i couldn't feel any benefits and the only thing it was doing was making me tired. I stopped taking it for a month and then started again, but now the tiredness was to such an extreme level that i just couldn't take it. Im writing this to tell you that i feel like i wasted years by taking strattera, but i personally know people who benefited from it immensely. I would say that IF Strattera works for you, you should take it rather than stimulants, because it isnt as intrusive as stimulants. Give it a shot and see how it goes, you can always go back.

I never comment because people usually say what I'm thinking in the comments but this time, nobody has. I was wondering if anyone felt the same way I did but so far, I haven't come across anyone. I'm 17 years old and have been diagnosed with ADHD since i was in 1st grade, i was roughly about 6-7 years old. Ever since i was diagnosed, I've been taking concerta, everyday. My doctor didn't monitor me well enough so in my first year of high school, my dose was too high and I didn't realize it until the damage was done. When you take too much of this stimulant, your brain is functioning a mile a minute, or at least that's how I felt. This medication increases anxiety. Of course if anxiety isn't hereditary or you're just not an anxious person, you might not need to worry but for people who are naturally stressed like me, it'll either help you center your thoughts or make them go all over the place. Of course i might not be the best reference since i haven't had a break since i started but i know what are the most common symptoms that i get: my heart rate quickens easily, it makes me VERY sensitive to sound, it changes your mood (for people with ADHD, it's supposedly a good thing because it helps us get ahold of ourselves), you're more productive because you can focus better, you have a loss of appetite. I am probably being a little negative but at the same time, I’m living through the struggle of having to deal with these side effects on a daily basis. One thing I would recommend is taking breaks. Do not become dependent on this. Know who you are without the medication before you get to know who you are with it.

Hello, this is an interesting situation you are in. I got put in concerta about 6-7 years ago and I’m 22 now, but I don’t have ADHD or ADD. I was put on it because of something called Rapid limb movement.. basically my legs twitch when I’m asleep. Anyway, your comment is interesting because I am a pretty anxious and stressed out person but I only say that because that’s kind of how I’ve always been… but I am starting to wonder if the concerta is partial or maybe much to blame. I may try slowly going off of it and then staying off of it and carefully documenting changes.

I had so many business ideas I never executed, 3 master's degrees that despite my amazing grades (last minute essays) I never managed to finish my thesis and get my degree. First one flew off and lost my money too, second one took me 5 years to finally hand in my thesis and graduate and I'm now on the 3rd one and just got diagnosed with ADHD. I wake up and start studying. And writing. All my life (I'm 36) I've been called messy and lazy. And irresponsible.and willingly forgetful. And a bunch of not cool stuff. By literally everyone. Including my family and friends even now that I'm diagnosed say that I needed an excuse to just being irresponsible and lazy. Even though my space is finally clean and. Tidy. I arrive on time when I'm invited somewhere, I wake up and I feel like I thrive. How can people still say I was just being lazy?

I'm now on Concerta and haven't experienced that yet. I haven't been diagnosed with ADHD, but I have been diagnosed with ASC. I'm convinced I have co-morbid ADHD, and I'm going to ask my GP for both a referral for diagnosis AND a script for Concerta. I have an Aspie friend who swears by it. I've had difficulties with concentration, low boredom threshold and procrastination throughout my life. I'm a writer, and the internet has proven to be both a blessing and a curse for me. It's constantly there to distract me. I'm even thinking of shelling out for a stand-alone electronic typewriter, so that I no longer have any connection between word-processing and internet via my PC! If I have a deadline, such as with a competition, then I can usually get the task done. Otherwise, never!

Luckily I’m a very social person and thus it hasn’t affected me in that aspect, but the side effects hit me really hard personally no matter the dose, even if I was on 18 mg for a couple of weeks I would have emotional rollercoasters, highest anxiety and stress I have ever experienced etc. On the other hand it is very efficient to do what it’s supposed to do, which obliges to make the decision between being a functional human being in society or working twice as hard for the same result

Today, I finally got the diagnosis of both adhd and asperger. (Just turned 28 for a week ago). The process took about 14 months. They prescribed concerta and I will, within the next couple of weeks, going to get the end results. Wish me luck EDIT: (18 mg) I started with 18mg/day and it worked well for the first 3 days. I could concentrate on my daily tasks with no problem but the effect dropped significanly after 3rd day. I don't get the same effect anymore. I don't experience any side-effects. EDIT 2: (36 mg) I feel so energetic and can sort my tasks so well. My concentration is good but I experience foot drop. My left foot and left side of left leg is numbed and I've very limited control over my left foot when walking or sitting. The medication must have caused nerve damage. EDIT 3: (54 mg) The feeling is very mixed. I feel good but at the same time, sad, angry and emotionally distressed. Especially the first 3 days with 54mg was disappointing for me. It feels like 54 is too much for me. EDIT 4: (36 mg) I requested my doctor to go back to 36 mg because I felt that my exact dose is at 36 mg. Now, I'm always taking 36 mg. My left foot is recovering but still have signs of numbness. EDIT 5: (36 mg) I feel that if I am nervous/anxious for a couple of hours, my numbness slightly strikes back. In my case, nervosity and stress are also triggering factors. I even get herpes outbreak on my lips every so often (once in a 2 weeks iteration) which I never did before (prior taking concerta, it was maybe once in every 6 months) Update August of 2022: The negative effects are that on top of the medicine, you also need lots of coffee. The medicine, as I've experienced, does not provide the beneficiary focus and attention boost. I, also, observed that coffee, for good reasons, provides more focus and energy than the medicine itself. This personal thesis was achieved within one year of close inspection of my physical and psychological health during a personal diet. To prove that the coffee actually surpasses Concerta in terms of focus, attention and overall performance, I changed the diet with 1 month of pause in between. E.g., 1st month medication only, 2nd month neither coffee nor medicine. 3th month with coffe only, 4th month nothing, 5th month medication, 6th month nothing, 7th month coffee, 8th month nothing, and 9th, 10th 11th and 12th months with both. The results were exactly as I've suspected. Coffee works a lot better in overall performance. Concerta works extremely less. This is indeed my experience and should not be taken as reference. This is just how my body reacts to different chemicals.

I'm 26 year old male. I'm taking concerta 36mg for 2 months now. I see no positive effects on my job - I work as a warehouse worker and the amount of mistakes I make is just shameful. Basically everyday I hear from my boss "you've made a mistake yesterday" or " you should keep yourself together" and it's incredibly painful. I've tried to count the things that I put on the pallet twice, sometimes even three times, but at the end, there are always mistakes. I think about quitting my job even though I've got no alternative - I want to quit just to save my dignity. I feel like loosing the war against ADHD. The only positive thing about taking the Concerta is, that I'm full of energy and aware of surroundings, I don't zone out so easily, but in the end, it doesn't make any difference - I'm constantly thinking about choosing the different career. But what's the correct job for me, when I cannot do even simplest tasks correctly? This thought prevents me from making any change in my life. I don't know what to do. ADHD (ADD in my case) sucks.

Im curious to try it because even tho I have been diagnosed with a combination of BPD, ADHD and anxiety yet I have archieved pretty remarkable feats, I believe my unique take on things really gives me some talents but sometimes I just cant concentrate in complex tasks and I start panicking when I think i just made a mistake, the confidence boost part is what interests me the most

I started Concerta at 27mg. The first day I felt amazing. Calm and productive. Same for day two. When day three came I was extremely sensitive and on day 4 I started having crying spells. Day 5 and 6 were the same with increased anxiety and obsessive thoughts. Not sure what's going on and will be contacting my doctor tomorrow.

One of my friends had the same issue and their doctor prescribed anti anxiety medications with it and they took them both and it was perfect.

Concerta was the single worst prescription I've ever taken for my adhd. I was awake for days on end, my sleep range was around 3-4 hours a week. It was this drug that I decided that I'd rather not take anything for it. For preface, I was 16ish at the time (I'm 34 now) I started doing worse in school, my work suffered. It was just horrid. I'll stick to coffee.

concerta gives me stomachaches every time i take it... I notice that I start to have stomachaches and I get like loss of appetite. It gives me upset stomach for a few hours and then it goes away but it then makes me very hungry like later on in the day. I just don't know if it is always supposed to give you stomach pains, but i always have a stomach ache when i take it and then it goes away later on... or lessens throughout the day... I spoke to my doctor about that and he told me that if it still keeps happening that i should then switch to vyvanse..... I just feel a lot of gastrointestinal problems with concerta even though they only last about a few hours... I do eat when I take it I usually do not take it with an empty stomach, or if I do I eat right away. But i always get stomach issues with it....

Ozzymathvideos concerta made me sick to my stomach as well. Alot of acid reflux. The same with Adderall XR. I seem to have stomach issues with anything that is extended release.

I'm 54, on Concerta only for four days. I like coffee...very much. I got here because all of a sudden after only one espresso I started feeling 'shaky' (although I do feel more relaxed mentally) and so I wondered whether caffeine would have an impact and now (2:14) I know where it comes from. A sincere thank you for this informative video.

I've been on concerta for 6 or 8 years now (don't remember exactly how long at this point lol). My advice would be to start as low as possible and go up until you find one that works..also supplement it with diet and exercise(but note that for me exercise lessons the attention aspect of the drug, so exercise strategically)..also once you find what works, don't get into the habbit of increasing the dose at any slight thing. Everything has a balance and people like us are basically using a medication to force our brains and nervous system to pay attention, be aware that its taxing on your body(it adds up over weeks months and years-and whatever you do if you start to notice your feeling burnt out be careful not to mistake that with needing a higher dose-thats a viscous cycle). And try to treat your body as cleanly as possible in terns of health. Additionayl keep track of when you start to feel sleepy and can fall asleep easily until you find the best time for you to take the meds. Lastly two important things: make sure to force yourself to eat some stuff at least throughout the day, and also remember to drink water-its easy to get dehydrated and not notice. I had nobody to help me when I started-I'm happy I can give someone else help and go full man mom on them. Good luck!

umbra hi you seem experienced with concerta i have a question. I went to my family doctor to talk about my focus problem and how it effects me for 10min and after 10min he prescribed me Concerta 18mg. I started taking it first day on Concerta 18mg i was more comfy to be social . Second day (Today) i took my concerta 18mg and i felt realy hyper i coudnt stop i was happy for no reason something seems off my family doctor did not even diagnosed me with adhd he just gave me Concerta My question is Should see specialst person on adhd? I was realy hyper and happy for no reason is this normal? What should i do? Thank you for your time!!

@@victoriabelucci6761 you definitely should ask your dr doctor about going to see a specialist just to be safe-that's what happened to me when I was young. I can only give an opinion based off my own experiences. The euphoric feeling can happen to some people, as the drug increases dopamine. The idea is that people with adhd have abnormally low resting levels of dopamine in the brain and the medication helps that as one of its aspects. As for hyper activity I have no idea, concerta can make your feel energized but not bouncing of the walls hyper? Ask your dr unfortunately that's not something I recognize!

My cousin and one of my friends was on Concerta- my cousin said it puts you in a really rotten mood, and if you take it too late in the day it effects your sleep. Also avoid caffeine and smoking because it can trigger anxiety or make you anxious

I used concerta for 10 years it Def has its pros . I experienced a 12 hour effect. A minor high about 30 minutes in . But a quick dopamine drop off after that that was unpleasant. Def did not feel motivated on concerta felt very lethargic and tired on it . Maybe the dosage just my experience

@@BottomG1337 I’m not taking it anymore. I’m taking adderall instant release which works best for me. On concerts my lack of appetite did not go away. I stopped taking it because I would feel good and focused for like an hour maybe, then I would just be irritated the rest of the day. I was focused but it was hard to stay motivated to be focused because I was not in the mood if that makes sense.

I heard that being really irritable (e.g. super-sensitive to noises like someone clicking a pen or clicking their fingernails) is part of ADHD. Do drugs like this help with that?

I started ritalin & it really helped with my irritability & almost reversed my hyperfocus on noise (for the time it's working, ritalin is short acting). But even overall I can tolerate the noise I used to find crazy-making. Like the traffic on the huge intersection I live on that brought me to the brink of sanity some days.

I got Concerta (Ritalin) because of Autism, but got rid off it again and if you get it too, there is a trick on how you can get rid off it. Instead of blocking annoyances by this stuff, you should think about what is annoying. That usually already gives a relief. Saves you money (if it isn‘t payed by healthcare or insurance) and the risk of long-term side effects that this thing carries (for example dependence or heart disease).
