Ron deserves some sort of award. Semiens defense has gone up dramatically this season.

Man i wish the sox never traded this guy
@hypetrained5 жыл бұрын
The sox could have never used him. He was a utility guy - a pretty bad but usable shortstop, sometimes outfielder, sometimes second or first baseman. He wasn't that good until he went to Oakland, and at first (and second) he was a pretty awful shortstop. The A's developed him. Not only did it pay off, but now we have a shortstop who's easily worth 15$-20$ million dollars a year, for 6$ million dollars a year. He's an Oakland A, through and through.

Honestly, any high school baseball player should be able to field a ball from 7 feet away going 5 to 10 mph. This is easy and I don't see it being the most effective use of practice time. With all due respect to Mr. Washington, who is a great coach, but I think players should be taking ground balls at game speed. Exit velocity on a ground ball isn't 5 to 10 mph. It's 70, 80, 90+ mph. Practice taking lasers, not bunts basically.
@erikjongarcia6 жыл бұрын
He’s not teaching them how to field scorchers, he’s setting them up for those not so hard hit grounders to get their bodies in a strong throwing motion to get the out when it has potential to be a bang bang play.
@hypetrained5 жыл бұрын
well this is part of a much larger routine. Ron Washington's coaching approach teaches the player as if they were a master violinist - mastering the fundamentals, and drilling them beyond belief. Marcus has as such turned into a gold glove caliber shortstop - he can in 2nd last year, and achieved a 8.2 DRS, and a lot of that was cutting down on the amount of errors he made, but also getting to those lasers you mentioned. As a master violinist spends hours a day practicing his scales, a player should learn how to field the fundamentals.
@daisy3384 Жыл бұрын
End goal is for eye and hand coordination to react at balls hit at any speed. Can't deny that these drills helped earn Marcus the Gold Glove 👏👏👏
