This is my 30-day post-operative update after my open-heart surgery and recovery. At this point, I made significant progress and was able to handle almost everything on my own. This should give those planning surgery a sense of what to expect during recovery.

I have enjoyed your updates as you progress forward. I have aortic/mitral valve insufficiency and SVT, but not chronic. Considered mild/moderate. I hope I don't need valve replacement surgery. Not yet anyway. I am thankful that I am still able to run/bike, keeps the heart in rhythm.

Hi Colleen, Thank you for watching my video and taking the time to write this comment. A little bit of insufficiency is probably normal; I also have mitral insufficiency, but they said nothing is needed for that, at least for now. So if you take good care of your heart (eating heart-healthy food, doing exercise), you probably won't need a replacement, at least not in the near future. I hope you won't need any surgery and continue living an active life, but if needed in the future, it probably should not be too much to worry about. I have met many people in cardiac rehab from different age groups and physical conditions, but they all are doing excellent after the surgery. Take care, and live life.

You are doing really well! I had my surgery exactly one year ago. Unfortunately for me i ended up back in the hospital three more times. I kept on getting fluid around my lungs, so bad that i would have to be drained. It's one of those things that can happen. It's the way my body reacted to being one the heart and lung machine and the surgery in general. I have stayed out of the hospital for nine months now and i feel good! I still have a little PTSD and the incision scar is still itchy! Other than that im fine. Good luck to you!

Hi Brian, Thank you for sharing your story 🙏. I imagine how scary time it was to keep going back to the hospital after an event like open heart surgery. I am glad to know you are doing better, and I wish you a complete recovery. Itchiness is also bothering me, and I have a lot of numbness on the left side of the surgical area, and it is not improving at all. Still very weak and getting dizzy a lot. Otherwise, I am doing okay.

It is scary to think about the surgery, but this will give a better and longer life. So what option do we have? First few weeks are going to be difficult, but it will get better every day. Please don't wait if doctor said urgent. What are you having this surgery? Take care, all will be okay.

Hello sir …i am so inspired by your experience…i just wanted to know that did u have bicuspid aortic valve?…and if yes..did you had aortic regurgitation or aortic stenosis?
@baybongdiary
@baybongdiary 3 ай бұрын
Hi Janmeet, I still have a bicuspid aortic valve because the valve was not replaced during surgery. I had aortic regurgitation because my aorta was dilated, which changed the root of the aorta and caused the valve to leak. Aortic stenosis was also there in the report, again because of the deformed root. Hope this answers your questions.

Will you be able to resume your running again?
@baybongdiary
@baybongdiary 4 ай бұрын
Yes, I can. My cardiologist cleared me for running, with the condition that I maintain a maximum heart rate. You asked me the question just in time; I just came back from 5 miles of running/walking. Today is my 85 days after surgery.

@@baybongdiary That is reassuring as my pastime of choice is exercise, and as mentioned before, I need the same procedure as you underwent.

my father had his bypass surgery 2 weeks ago he is feeling ok but very tired and snoring very loud when sleeping maybe because he is sleeping upright and pulse stays quite high and lost quite bit weight. wondering all this is normal? thank you
@baybongdiary
@baybongdiary 3 ай бұрын
Being tired and losing weight is normal, but he should start gaining weight slowly after one month. I lost 15Lb in the first 2 weeks after surgery. Ask him to take a rest, go for a walk, and increase his walking duration every day. Breathing exercise is a must. The pulse rate can be high, and there should be medicine (amiodarone) to regulate it. But if it is too high, make sure to let his doctor know about it. I don't think snoring has anything to do with the surgery itself, but better to discuss it with the cardiologist. I wish him a speedy recovery. Take care.
