I became a The Big Lebowski freak from the git go. As my two sons grew up they watched it with me many times. We commonly reference lines when we're together to get some laughs going. One of my sons took me to a Big Lebowski fest in Seattle years ago. It was a riot, first the film and hundreds of folks repeating the dialogue as the movie played and then a bowling party, White Russians, folks dressed as the characters and bowling. Laughs aplenty.for those that get this style.

#31- The Dudes apartment front door swings out, not in. This doesn't meet California fire code for single/multi family dwellings. But of course in the case of him nailing a plank to his floor and board against the door knob to prevent intruders would not have worked had the door swung inward. That and "you must not be much of a golfer" are two of my favorite parts.

They are good bits of the movie but when he says to the cop "I'm sorry I wasn't listening" and the cop just throws the mug from it's prone position right to his forehead has me in hysterics every time, plus just about any scene Walter is in, John Goodman should have been given the congressional medal of honour for the part he played in that movie, Am I wrong? That was fun. Love the movie. I saw an interview where Jeff Bridges mentions getting a fan letter from someone who came up with a theory that Donnie is Walter's imaginary friend. Bridges found this notion compelling and went back and watched it as if that were the case. He said he never really realized that outside of the scene where his car get's stolen he never interacts with Donnie, never speaks to him directly. Jeff Bridges said that if you stayed with the whole Donnie's not real theme that could be the Dude being sarcastic with Walter since he's not looking at Donnie when he speaks. The heart attack and ash spreading scene's were the only problematic moments for the theory but if you wrote them off as figments of Walter's imagination it works. Try it. Watch the movie with the premise that Donnie only exists in Walter's somewhat tortured mind, it lends a unique, Beautiful Mind sort of perspective to the film. Then think about how he could actually get the Dude a toe. 🤔

i love this movie as much as anybody. I'm turning 70. the Dude is somebody I could have hung out with and partied with. I want to point out one thing. He's much nicer than the hippies I knew (and knew quite well). e.g. when his nerdy landlord says, "I got the space for my dance sequence. I'd love it if you'd come and take notes" the Dude says, "I'll be there, man." AND HE ACTUALLY SHOWS UP. Most of the hippies I knew, even if they agreed, would likely not show up and, in fact, not even remember the whole interaction Lebowski is a nice guy, a good person. that's one of the reasons this movie wears so well when you watch it for the seventh time

I wonder if Jeff Bridges ,in part, was inspired to come up with the "human paraquat" line due to the influence of Los Angeles disc jockey, Pat "Paraquat" Kelley, who was on the air in the seventies at radio station KMET 94.7. Of course, I might be out of my element.
@57hound
@57hound Жыл бұрын
Sure that could be why. OTOH, if you were a stoner back in the ‘70s, which Bridges was, you would have been very aware of paraquat. The marijuana eradication program using paraquat caused a lot of fear and paranoia among stoners back then. I don’t think it actually kept anyone from getting high, but it was a concern that was brought up often.

Very good. I knew somewhere around 20 things but it's been my favorite movie since i saw it maybe 20 years ago. I watched this as a sort of test for myself, i did well. Excellent video, excellent movie. I just want to add I think when the dude says he abides, he means he's very tolerant. The first definition. The Big Lebowski will not abide while The Dude habitually does.

Fact 31: The Dude lives in the complex right across the street from my lift in Venice. They put lights in my building and left a total mess. You can see my orange BMW R80GS parked outside it during one of the exterior shots... from the limo (I think).

I remember Jeff Bridges was told by a fan that Donny existed in Walters mind ie he served with him in Vietnam. Walter was suffering from PTSD, after Donny died in front of him. Donny was an hallucination.

In an earlier script it was established that he inherited the fortune from the inventor of the rubiks cube. I like that the movie never addresses his money situation though.

New shyt has come to light! One small correction: the scene with the Nyalists in the pancake house is the ONE scene in the movie without The Dude.

It's also weird that they leave out it's Aimee Mann as the one who ACTUALLY lost her toe and she's only in the one scene with the nihilists..

Something I've always wondered about, around 11 minutes into the movie when Brandt is showing off the awards wall. He says "Inner-city children of promise, but without the necessary means for, necessary means for a higher education". Is there any reason or meaning behind him repeating "necessary means for"? It gets me every time because it sounds so weird!

The very first scene that’s in this video is part of what I noticed a few years back; Donny goes on about the in-n-out burger place by the kids house. Fast forward to the kids place, they go outside, smash up the Vette, realise their mistake, and he next scene is them driving home in the dudes beat-up car, eating burgers from the in-n-out burger!

The first time I saw this movie…was on regular TV…; due to edits and commercial breaks, I had no idea what was going on…it took me another 4to 5 viewings before I had a remote clue as to what was happening. Now I can put it on as I go to bed and picture every scene in my head by the dialogue.

When I was young I backpacked through Turkey and was exposed to the whole “rug” culture among many other things. I ended up with a rug in my pack that saw 6 cities in Turkey and many more in Greece on my way home. When I hear “it ties the room together” fuckin A I get it know. Just my 2 lira.

Because of this video and the fact that I haven't seen this movie since it premiered at the movie theaters AND It's too cold today to do anything: the horses, livestock, chickens, ducks, rabbit, dogs and cats, have all been feed and there's still ice on the lawn so what a perfect day to curl up with my loving wife and watch The Big Lebowski this morning. THANK YOU!

Video lovely as always, but...pain in an arm being a symptom is in the left arm (it being the one closer to the heart). It even says so on the image in the video. Then again, Donny could have situs inversus, which is when your organs are on the other side they are on a "normal" person. Still, love this videos!

Jeff Dowd, the real Dude, is the Coens' Hollywood friend just like Walter's inspiration. He's a producer who most prominently worked on the environmentalist cartoon *FernGully* , a young GenX/old Millennial classic that featured Christian Slater, the reunion of Cheech and Chong, and Robin Williams's first voice role.
