Very nice aviary, do the red rumps get aggressive with your other birds? I had on and had to re home him, he kept attacking my budgies and canaries and other birds, he was in love with my conure though. He went to an aviary like yours. I may be getting a turquoisine tomorrow, maybe two of them, they were hand fed and tame.
@CockatielCompanion
@CockatielCompanion 10 жыл бұрын
The Male red rump is not interested in the female red rump, instead he fancies a Turquoisine female, as do 2 of the cockatiel. They all fancy the same Turq so she must be a real looker. The Red Rump male (Sylvester) pays very little attention to all the other birds, the female (Tweety Pie) is the stroppy one in our aviary, but no-one has ever done any major bullying. They all get on very well. I think a large aviary is the key. I have found Turquoisines sulk when alone, I would get a pair. Thanks for watching.

Cynthia D I call it 'twistee grass' because of a Turq we have called twistee who absolutely loves it and follows me around as I collect it from the garden. I don't know what it is actually called though. It is just a weedy grass that pops up all through our garden. I grow silverbeet for the birds now too, they all seem to love that in a similar manner. Thanks for watching.

Cynthia D I think the name of the Grass is called Twitch. It spreads every where. Some people call it a weed but we let it grow as its a very good medicine grass. Dogs,Horses,Quails,Chickens,Partridges,Grouse all love this grass. They seem to pic thiis grass out over other grasses for some reason.

Just a suggestion for a bit of plant life that if the birds chew through it won't matter to the plant is bamboo because it's very difficult to kill unless you chop all the roots of even if 1 root is intact it will find a way to grow because bamboo stores water in the wooden shoots it's pretty much a weed even thought technically it grass

The grass is what I call "Twistee grass" because of one of our Turquoisines who loves it dearly and watches me pick it from the garden and is always the first to have a go. What it is really called... I have no idea, it is just a weed grass on our property that all the birds seem to enjoy. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.

hi i was wondering what plants you have used for this aviary? im going to be building a planted aviary for my cockatiels and need some ideas on plants they wont destroy lol. btw i love your videos!
@CockatielCompanion
@CockatielCompanion 8 жыл бұрын
It kinda depends where you live. Mine has a lot of palms as I love palms. For every plant you see in the aviary today, probably another 2 were destroyed. Most of the palms have however survived as they don't have small leaves that are easily nipped off by little tiel beaks. I tried bananas and they were destroyed by everyone. Grass is also hard as everything loves to chew on grass too. How big is your aviary going to be as that will impact a lot on what you can plant in it?

The birds singing are Java Sparrows (Java Finch). The Javas and Turqs breed like crazy. The Cockatiels are all boys. The doves keep laying and sitting on eggs but someone is shooting blanks. The Red rump female is always trying, and has had fertile eggs but none have made it full term yet. Thanks for watching.

Great video! We have such collared doves visiting our garden every day here in Ireland, I think someone in the neighbourhood is keeping them. We get a lot of sparrows, starlings and all sorts of finches, and of course robins, rooks, jackdaws, thrushes, tits etc. How cold does it get for you in winter? My guess is that here in Ireland, it would get too cold and damp during the winter months, we do have occasional frosts.

pyxxel For the past 6 weeks it has been around 27°C during the day and 20°C at night... but it is Summer here.In winter the day temps are usually 14-16°C and we get about 5 light frosts per year, (but sometimes none, and once 17, but we didn't have an aviary then. When we get frosts the temp can briefly drop to around 0°C, but usually only for about and hour, then a fine day follows with temps around 15°C. It would depend on what birds you wanted to keep. In Ireland Pheasants would be fine, but may be a bit cold for the small Australian parrots, especially with prolonged damp. Thanks for watching.

I noticed that, when you released the birds into the aviary in a previous video, they weren't tamed. Yet in this video, they seem to be perfectly fine around humans. I thought that it would be nearly impossible to tame so many birds. How did you do it? Are they hand trained or just comfortable being near humans?

redroxyluv Hi, Birds are easy to tame if you have patience and food. Only one bird in the Pheasantasiam was hand raised, and the other cockatiels have learnt from that bird. If you sit with them long enough, they get used to you. Many of the birds land on me when I walk in now and take food from my hand. Thanks for watching.

+Klanee Green They always have an Aviary seed mix available which consists of Sunflower, millet, hulled oats, canary, flax and a few other seeds. They also get peanuts, whole millet, silverbeet, apple, plum, guava, fresh corn, other odd things from time to time and weeds from the garden. The favourite of most of our birds is just a weed grass that grows prolifically on our property which is very handy, so they get clumps of that whenever I walk past some.

Can zebra doves live in harmony with cockatiels, Japanese quails, turquoisine parrots and red-rump parrots?

I don't see why not. My doves get along fine with the other birds. They don't like new comers, but they are ok after a few days. Our doves are also some of our friendliest birds, after the tiels. Thanks for watching.

jose h The Turquoisines breed like crazy, I can't stop the little buggers. The Red Rumps try, but the female is not very good at sitting on the eggs. Every time I look in her box some of the eggs are not even under her. She has tried 3 times and no luck yet. Thanks for watching.
