A few months back I bought a 'faulty' n3DS that wouldnt charge or turn on for about $20. I changed the battery to test, and it worked just fine. Charged as well. I thought, all it needs is a new battery. I put the battery in my other 3ds to see if it would charge JIC, and it charged just fine. So it needed no fixing, just the battery being drunk.

That shell piece that's broken - I have a brand new one in the same colour that you can have for free if you like. Let me know if you want me to send it. I recently reshelled one of these and ordered 2 by mistake. Reassembling it was incredibly painful, I hate working on the 3ds XL, it is horrific. I also had the same issue with the missing pad on my replacement screen - is that definitely not correct? Mine is missing the screen lens so I assumed that's why my 3D isn't working (I assumed the lens was a polariser).

I might be high as fuck but you made me realize repairing stuff like this isn't that difficult, most of it looks like little modules you can replace. The hard work is being patient to move and take things appart carefully, and also being extremelly organized. You did both perfectly, your video set and editing are so neat and tiddy and I can see it being reflected on your repairs as well, it's nice how some generic qualities like organization and patience can be extrapolated to all kinds fields and are always useful. All this to say, you are great at what you do and you earned my high ass as a suscriber.

Generally, the non working 3d effect comes with a damaged speaker ribbon cable, the same one that you replaced in other video, in a regular new 3ds. The shell was broken and the hinge was exposed, very likely that the speaker cable is damaged too. Or one of those small cables on the screen's side (one is for the backlight, the other is for the 3d effect) is not properly connected.
