When you have 30 queens, you could literally win 99.9% of the time with completely random moves. The fact that he lost effectively proves Martin has extensive knowledge of chess and intentionally picked losing moves to let you win, like he does with his kids.

So as it turns out, letting your kids win at chess by intentionally losing (as opposed to handicapping yourself) is pretty bad parenting. Martin is bad at chess and bad at being a dad. LOL

It just proves that bot was very inefficient, probably because it was never programmed for such a situation.
@shupichii9647 Жыл бұрын
Actually, this bot makes sense if you come at it from the perspective of, "My oponent doesnt know what they are doing." From this PoV you can see the bot is; 1. Allowing any setup opponent wants. 2. Teaches how peices move by shuffling at start. 3. Puts oponent into difficult positions then lets them have a few turns to figure out how to get out. 4. Loops this process without actually really trying to win. This would be a really, really good bot to teach kids the raw mechanics of the game.

I think I figured out why he is playing so defensive, I think that Martin is programmed to be protective of the Queen piece (since you know….there’s only supposed to be one) so when you give him 30 of them he still just thinks he needs to protect them and save them as if there were only one. Idk if any of that is true, I’m just guessing.

I think its the opposite. I believe he is protective of the king. He doesn't attack the knight because there was no chance it could check the king, except when the queen takes the knight at 14:14 as there was zero risk to do so. But at 16:04 when the pawn moves towards the king, the next move martin detects is the Queen guarding the king is at risk, which would out martin in check. So pawn gets taken. Thats what I noticed. So long as a piece is contested and is not within two moves of a check, martin will leave it alone.

I actually feel like a gigantic piece of shit watching this because I just started playing chess last week and figured playing with the bot Martin would be a good way to start. I beat him 9/10 times, and I'm 1 for 1 against actual human players, but knowing the lore of how bad Martin sucks... well, that kinda took the wind out of my sails. 😆 I'll be better tomorrow.

I think its got very specific strategies attached to pieces that causes it to always consider a queen high value. So instead of going "So much power in these queens" its thinking "Oh no these queens are in so much danger!".

Yes that's a great point!

Yeah, I had the exact same thought. As a programmer I can tell you for sure, an easy optimisation to make to a chess bot is to assume the normal starting position + set of pieces. Stockfish works differently, and evaluates its options fully, which is computationally intense, but is what makes it so good.
@youtube-kit9450 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it has to be some kind of programming quirk like that cuz otherwise even a mouthbreathing bot like Martin would see 15 queens and be able to oonga boonga bulldoze his way into a checkmate by just trading like 10 queens for 10 pieces.

So just a thought, but since material advantage is quantifiable, Martin may be coded to be "dumber" the higher the gap in material advantage is in the bots favor. This would be a great way to code a beginner bot since it would never straight up blow you out, but it would become more competitive when the material advantage reaches closer to parity (i think this is evidences by how Martin seemed to play a little better once he lost a lot of queens)

Martin is actually pretty good bot to be honest. It's hard to make a bot that doesn't make non-random moves and doesn't hang pieces in 1 moves all while still making him terribly easy to beat.

I love how Martin is more dangerous because he is unpredictably bad, not because he has all queens.

As martin just move all queens forward and sacrifice them to eventually have like 5 queens at the end which is enough to easily checkmate
