Bears can break into cars, campers, cabins, houses if they are hungry enough. Best advice is keep food in cabinets and refrigerators and not outdoors in bear country. Never leave food in vacant vehicles, cabins, or houses.

Cats are nails. They have insanely fast reflexes and aim to scratch the nose. The most sensitive part for a bear and for dogs , very rarely does a dog kill a cat if that cat is head on to a dog. It only really happens if a cat is caught off gaurd or it runs. The cats on my council estate literally have no fear it is a tough council estate and the cats are tough too, until cuddle o clock.

My grandfather (born 1897) would spend summers at his grandad's high-Carpathians hunting lodge. When he was 9, he went to pick forest raspberries not far from grandparents' timber lodge. Soon he noticed rustle on the other side of the huge bush. Carefully parting the twigs, he suddenly found himself eye to eye to a brown bear, about eye-to-eye level. The bear was picking raspberries on the other side of the big bush. Grandad later told me his luck migt have been that he frose solid and very slowly let the branches close back on his side.

4:30 - 5:50 The bear's name is Mansur, and Andrey (the man in the video) cares for him along with his fellow general aviation pilots at Oreshkovo airfield. Someone left a little bear cub seven years ago at another airfield. The cub was already friendly towards people by that point so wildlife experts told the pilots it was too late to train him for release (he would survive but he would probably come to the nearest town at some point in his life which would most probably end badly). So the pilots kept him. He has a youtube channel with 800+ videos, Медведь Мансур - Mansur the Bear. He has never tried to attack a human. In this video, Andrey is hanging a toy for the bear but the bear wants to play with the ladder instead.

I wouldn't have tried to chase it off with her spray, if it agitated, she was toast. She was in a basic lean to cabin, no protection. Living in literally the middle of nowhere in straight wilderness, this is one of my greatest fears. I live in a REAL SMALL fly-in only community. We have no highways or roads leading out at all, i think there are only about 90 houses total. So yeah, we're literally in the middle of nowhere. Walking around as a kid for me has always been terrifying. We have had a lot of bear and wolf sightings. i don't know how many times I've seen bears wandering across the road from my house. We probably have a bear walking around houses AT LEAST 15 times every summer, and there was been multiple times where bears were literally tearing into peoples homes (none has ever successfully gotten in though)

Its not uncommon in many states to always have something on you. For me, I'd at least have a firearm, but even if the caliber wasn't what I'd prefer for a bear, it's better than nothing at all. Bear spray is pretty nice too, but I'm not sure what the range on that is.

My friend rents her home in Lake Tahoe Ca. Unfortunately, a bear decided to make under her front porch it's new den one winter. It roamed in and out of the neighborhood ,they thought it was cute. Last summer a renter came home with spaghetti and garlic bread leftovers and Mr bear popped out freaking them out so completely they threw the food in the air going back to their car. The bear enjoyed a pasta dinner before being moved up the mountain. The renters demanded a refund and got it. Now I always look under the porch!

Am I the only person who carries Bear Repellent? I don't want to kill the animal, I'm in HIS backyard. But that behavior doesn't inspire much trust on the Bear side. I have used Bear Repellent mainly for snakes and small animals. Like a killer chipmunk looking for blood! But seriously, I have used Bear Repellent on different animals, and it works. Went to a cabin in Sevierville. We live in TN, so we know to watch for bears. But husband forgot to lock the door on Jeep, and we just unloaded groceries. It for sure opened the back door and climbed in. Husband grabbed his pew pew and told it to get out. It got out, jumped on a tree eye level with him and hissed, and then ran off. That black bear wasn’t running AT the hiker, he was running away from the car and everyone screaming like a fool. Black Bears are fairly mild, now, I wouldn’t want to be dealing with a grizzlies or a polar bear, but I have lived around black bears my whole life, and see them frequently, even on my porch, I’ve only been frightened a few times, and it was usually a mama bear.

The black bear is far from the deadliest predator in the wild. It eats mostly plants, with a little meat thrown in. That is true even of the grizzly bear. Sure, they CAN kill a human, but what for? Family defense, maybe, or to get your groceries. Now, a polar bear is another matter. Polar bears are pure carnivores and incredibly strong too. I notice you don't have any videos of polar bear encounters.

I learned about bear spray when I lived in Vermont. Important to have it with you when you’re in the wild, or when the bear visits Main Street, or decides to pay a visit to your front porch.

It's crazy to think any animal pretty much could kill us.Even a house cat.Thank God we developed our brains to be able to think and try to find ways to defend ourselves.If not, there would be a lot of humans as the main course for most animals.

If you are unfortunate enough to catch the attention of a grizzly bear, do not try to make yourself big and loud. That will probably work with a black bear, but not a grizzly. The best thing you can do if a grizzly bear is stalking you is to lay down face down with your hand over your neck and your legs spread apart so that you're not so easy to flip over. You're probably going to get bit and scratched a little bit but hopefully you'll be uninteresting and unthreatening enough does the bear will eventually walk away. Generally speaking, if it's black fight back but if it's brown lay down
