Hey guys! So I forgot to mention my depop during the video but it is @juliearaica I also noticed that a lot of you are commenting about how your goodwill or value village are different from mine, but I am only speaking from my own experience with the stores in my area which is something I should have made more clear in my video! So not all stores might be flat rate like mine or (with the case of value village) owned by the same company as mine so sorry for any confusion this may have caused!

H0lD 0N, H0lD 0N. You forgot the MOST important tip of thrifting: thrift in wealthy areas of town. You are more likely to find "brand name" items that are better quality and newer condition. I have also found these shift stores to be cleaner, and feel generally safer. Most of my good finds are from wealthy areas if town.

#30 is so important, I work at a thrift store and theres nothing worse than people coming in and being disrespectful and laughing at everything, it makes me feel bad for others as an employee so I can't imagine what other shoppers whose only option is that store are thinking... also leaving a mess for employees to pick up, I don't think I will ever get used to/over how disrespectful some customers are!!! so frustrating

Yesss girl your advice about being respectful to the fact that thrifting is many people's only option is spot on. Too many times I used to see a group of teens go in there to laugh at some of the 'ridiculous' and 'outdated' items, back when I was still too embarrassed to admit that thrifting was me and my family's only option. It made me and my siblings wanna hide.

that is so true about the keeping an eye on your basket/cart!!! I had a cart full of all these amazing shoes I'd found... and when I was in the fitting room trying on the clothing items I came out and these 2 ladies were taking all the shoes I had found out of my cart!!!!! I was like "uhmmm.. what are you doing those are mine" lol... and the one lady just goes "Oh sorry.. you have great taste" and they gave them back and walked away. I think they had been following me and knew I had all those shoes and waited for an opportunity to try and steal them from me! They continued to shop right behind me the rest of the time I was there. Giving me dirty looks. Made me so uncomfortable I eventually left. AFTER purchasing all the shoes. Evil!!! haha

Where I live thrift stores aren't a thing cause people are obsessed with big brands and second hand stuff is seen as dirty and disgusting. Loved your note about being respectful and mindful - thrifting is "in" and it's great that so many people can find common ground hunting for cool finds, but it's imperative to remain conscious of the fact that low income individuals don't have that choice - it's not just cute and/or trendy for them (though of course it can be!!) it's their life. xx

Shania O. Mason heck I love the prices and being able to find quality goods. As long as you know what you're looking for, you can find some seriously high end stuff. I love how she said to take your time. It does annoy the ever living crap out of me when I'm in a thrift store and teenagers are being little dicks about the label inside of the shirt. They don't want it yet they'll go shop at Forever 21. I hate "label whores" 😂 If it looks good and you love it WEAR IT. I swear I wish Goodwill was open 24 hours so I could go when some of the pretentious teenagers are at home. Plus what a better time than night to get your calm shopping on? :) I got off topic but I do think respect is key. Around this area a bunch of people have no other choice than to thrift. Some of our Thrift shops are way pricey though.

Urgh ikr you can never find any good thrift stores here
@atlroxmysox987 жыл бұрын
I feel like thrifting is different depending on where you live. Like, in LA thrifting is a cool trendy thing that a lot of people do because they want to. Where I live, thrifting is something people do because they can't afford anything better. And nothing against people thrifting as a choice, I've done it too. It's just VERY obvious when you go to a thrift store who is there for which reason. I hate seeing fashionable teens at the thrift store, it's obnoxious. So when I thrift I try to dress down, blend in more. And honestly, I see that I get harassed and followed around by men much less this way too (yes this is a thing that happens). Be low key, keep your head down, don't look or act like a spoiled brat.

I agreed with most of your comment except the part where you said you hated seeing fashionable people at a thrift store. I love fashion and I love dressing up for everything. Now I have to dress down at a thrift store in order to not make "poor" people feel bad? Hell, a lot of my "trendy" looking clothes are from the thrift store or from stores like tj maxx. Its not like you are automatically rich just because you dress fashionable. Even if I was, (which im not) its nobody's business why I am at a thrift store and what I buy. As long as I am not acting weird or making fun of the store, I don't see how it's a problem. I think its awesome that thrifting or buying vintage pieces is becoming more popular. It pushes thrift stores to provide better items and now many specialized vintage stores are popping up. People are also now appreciating a lot more dressing more uniquely and showing off your own style instead of following just one trend. Smh, special triggered snowflakes now want people to dress down in order to not feel self conscious...

adriana12995 I agree. All of my clothes are from thrift stores, and if someone would hear that, say 5 years ago, I would get way more dirty looks than I would usually get today especially because I thrift out of necessity (I am poor and dress from the 30s and 40s lol)
@adriana129957 жыл бұрын
No Swearing on my Christian Server Yeah. I know some people feel annoyed that now people who are well off are getting things second hand just because its trendy to be vintage but since it is becoming a normal thing, it helps people who actually have no other choice than to buy things from a thrift store to not be seen as uncool or dirty.

Love these tips :) I've thrifted all my life and can really appreciate the last one especially in Goodwill where thrifting is seen as more trendy for people and some people just put stuff back anywhere and are really rude. I think it's fine to have fun in a thrift store but for sure you have to also be mindful.

You can get a hair tie, put it in the hole where the button goes, and put it around the button, and it honestly looks normal (for the jeans at 14:45) lmfao

my value village is clean af everything is on the racks and yeah it's pretty big too but the prices I've seen range from 1.99 to 5.99 for jeans and shirts and get a bit pricey for coats and jackets (which makes sense) 😊

Ankine Apardian the tops and pants range from $7.99 - 13.99 in my location. Jackets can go from $12 - $80.

LOVE LOVE LOVE your advice about being respectful. My local Goodwill is probably the cleanest one I've seen, but there are so many stores that are just a mess because of rude and messy customers. I'm so happy you pointed out the part about being respectful of other shoppers that HAVE to shop there. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has seen something crazy on the rack and had a hard time stifling a laugh, but it's something I will make sure to work on. Great video!

Great advice and insight. Thrifted style is more interesting. I just went to my 1st GW outlet & it was 1.78/lb so your jeans alone would have made that. Where do you live?

A big applause for you for your last tip of this video. Thank you honestly for recognizing all the people who were less fortunate and grew up with only the ability to shop at thrift stores. Absolutely loved your video. I grew up with almost only option for clothes...thrifting... but I can't even tell people where my clothes comes from because I lived in the country where it wasn't ok to wear second hand clothes... And I was a teenager in 00s... Now I am 28 and I live in another far away country where it is totally ok to buy used stuff...and my thrifting skills from teenager years are really helpful) P.S. you have a good taste in fashion..so keep going girl!
