Cheap ones for me. I don’t have them for display. I have them to sit in a cabinet and keep the watches somewhat secure and dust free. They might be opened two of three times a week. I don’t foresee them failing from use. I would have no issue paying for a quality one. But the prices just aren’t reasonable. They’re overpriced by a large margin for the materials used.

I made my last 2 watches boxes from existing wooden boxes I had around the house. I sanded the roughn3dfes, stained them, applied padding inside them and covered with velour so that my watches pop! One of them is a cigar box with a real glass top (I guess it held fancy cigars) so I can see the watches through the top. Total cost was minimal - I already had the stain, the poly batting and the velvet for some other projects, so all it cost me was an hour time - probably the same amount of time I'd spend online looking at boxes. I'm sure you could put together something similar over in Japan for practicslly nothing.

My lady friend bought me a 20 slot watch box for Christmas. Ten watch slots on top, and 10 in the drawer. It is most likely synthetic leather, but looks quite nice. The only thing I don't like about it is the 6 empty spaces, complete with watch pillows, that just sit there and stare at me whenever I open the box. I tried shuffling them to the drawer at the bottom, but they seem to whisper at me when I am watching watch review videos. Nothing quite as sad as an empty slot in a watch box. I am counting on your continuing excellent watch reviews to help me decide how to get rid of these annoying empty slots.

I’ve got the black 30 dollar one too. I am thinking about adding led lighting to the inside of it because one of my watches is solar powered and leaving it in the box has caused it to stop working due to lack of lighting.

I use boxes from Mele & Co: 10 slots, glass topped, double recessed hinge, wood veneer finish, 2 drawer. On Amazon between £35-£50 been using them for years and haven't broken one yet.

Your right, most of the cheaper ones (in my experience) won’t last but a couple of years. The exception is the Glenor Co. products. Those run under $50 for the most part and are of much higher quality.

Thirty dollar box for me . Twelve watches , removable watch tray and lockable . Both are plastic covered and no guarantee that after a year of use , the more expensive box will start to show signs of use .

Years ago I bought my first watch box - - 20-slot "leather" with the cheesy single lid hinge. After about a year I decided I just didn't like it. Gave it to charity, got a 20-slot wood case and never looked back. Fifteen years later, I have four 20-slot and two 30-slot wood cases. Prices ranged from $50 - $110. Two of the cases are designed to hold watches up to 56mm.

Nice review, Dave. The $150 box isn’t as nicely made as my $35 wood/veneer effect box i have had for years and mine still looks premium. Leather-look boxes can be tricky to buy well, so I would always recommend the ‘veneered’ options instead.

When I look now I only see the same model in a leather look- maybe they don’t sell the ‘rosewood’ one any more. Got it on sale, but they are still only $50 Canadian regular price. The quality it surprisingly good and certainly looks premium. Pillows are holding up perfectly after years.

Hi Dave. Greetings from Malaysia. After I started watching your channel a few months ago, I thought I should get a watch box like yours even though I don't have that many watches. I only recently bought a wooden 12-slot box (glass window) which is much more expensive than the PU ones but still only around USD30. Now stores 6 of my watches and 6 belonging to my better half. Looks neat and classy. Definitely worth it. Therefore the USD150 box in this review is way too pricey.

I keep my solar watches in a transparent plastic tackle box near a bright window. It doesn't look very smart but it keeps dust off and they stay charged. You make a good point about the hinges, but I think the width of each slot is probably the most important factor. I have a shallow 12 slot display box where most of my larger divers protrude over the sides. It's fine for smaller, dressier pieces but I need to be careful whenever I move it. I worry if I tilt it slightly the watches will scratch each other. Needless to say, it will soon be replaced. One thing folks might not be aware of is the price of watch cushions - anything from 40c on Ali to $30+ (each!) for calf-leather craziness through Etsy. I don't think many Vostoks get that kind of luxury. I use cut down pool noodles. Ideally I'd like to get several Lipton teabag boxes (the wooden ones), but every crafter wants them for projects. I like standing my 12 holer on its front side so that the glass top faces out, with the watches being viewable. Quartz go in the box, mechanicals are out on the dresser for easy winding access.

I would pay maybe $50 for the Beerust one. Overall it's less practical, put together the same, and more expensive for an item that ultimately sits there. I'd rather put the money towards watches and at $150, it's not an inconsiderable contribution towards a new addition. Overall I'm very disappointed in the Beerust.

To the point of this video, $150 is a bit pricey when my next watch will cost $200 to $400. I want a field watch and am considering a set n forget Eco Drive vs a Hamilton. So yeah, no $150 watch box on my radar. I bought a 6 slot from Amazon in January for $24. Works fine for my 2 Seikos, my 1 Vostok, and a bulky Deep Blue my wife saw on QVC or somewhere and got for me. Keep up the good work. You earned my follow!

I got a cheap Amazon special watch box very similar to yours for around $30; the brand is Bewishome. I think it service me just fine. It sits in place, so there's almost no wear. I hardly even close the lid. It's not trying to fit into a nice decor, it stores watches just fine, the drawer is handy, so I don't see that I need anything better.

Mine just sits on the desk with the drawer and lid open so as long as the cheap one looks good its not going to wear out. If you open and close it every day good hinges are going to be important but that's maybe a $6 upgrade cost for them, not $120. If $150 doesn't matter to you and you want an expensive watch box then you might as well move on up to something really nice that's real leather or a decent wood like walnut, teak or mahogany. Where this one is bought I think is when it's a gift. They don't want to buy the cheapo for that special someone but going high end is getting over the top.

At that budget I’d buy an eBay special for ten bucks plus nice polished wooden box then swap the innards. For something real nice and bespoke DIY or commissioning a woodworker is the way to go.

I absolutely would not pay $150 for that box. $75 maybe, but that's it - it comes across as about "twice the value" of the $30 box, not five times the value. For $150 I'd want the box itself to be a showpiece, with overall better quality materials and finish. Let's not kid ourselves that there's high precision engineering and craftsmanship going on here; you make a simple box with hinged lid and a bit of covering.

$150 and no glass and still not leather seems too high. Also, the $30 will last much longer than you say; put a little glue on the front panel for $2 and keep going. The design is better, too. That hinge isn't really a big risk and the slide-out drawer is good. Personal pet peeve: getting rid of something that is 95% functional instead of spending 5 minutes with some glue to fix it. Please don't do that. People throw out way too much.

Sure, for 5 times the price we should expect a higher quality box. Higher than the one we're seeing, actually, and for more than eight watches. You can buy 5 of the Chinese boxes for the price of the Beerust. I've been using a box just like your cheapie for a month or so, and it's been just fine. I have plans for something better, but for someone just beginning to collect, I'd recommend the cheapie. When it starts to crap out, you can reverse engineer it to model a DIY build of something really nice.

What about the window? Is it real glass? Or is it acrylic? I have a cheap box with the fabric ribbon and 12 slots (no drawer below) and so far so good... I seldom move it around so I think it'll last at least 6 years. I guess a pricier box would be suitable for my grail or very special watches, but there is also no issue If they stand among all other watches of the collection.

You dont need a genuine leather for a watch box. You need full grain horsemen leather only for your bags, belts and shoes. Even if you travel with that many watches get a pelican type suitcase that is more secured than a leather box.

The $30 cheapy is a nonstarter. Even if one's watch collection is all $100-$300 timepieces the $150 is well worth. And locks on such boxes are a total wasted effort. Better to put the resources into good hinges and construction.

Right? Problem is genuine leather is usually a pretty low quality leather, and might actually hold up worse than the PU leather. You would really want Full Grain leather for something like this, but that's pretty expensive.

Bee Rust. Strange name. Fake leather. Glued construction. Those pillows look like the same kind of stiff bracelet stretchers you get on the cheapy watch boxes. I'd give this one a hard pass. Just save a bit more and get a decent 8, 10 or 12-slot box.

The front left corner makes me nervous already, such gaps shouldn't exist even after two years, let alone on an almost brand new product. The hinge on the left is mounted crooked. I would give this a thirty-FIVE price tag, certainly NOT a HUNDRED thirty something. Plus you need TWO such boxes to fill in the watches the cheap box holds. Btw with the drawer front coming off on your old one - a two dollar tube of glue should fix this and leave you enough for another fifty applications.

Nooooooo waaaaaay. For that money, it should have real leather and a glass panel, not plastic. I would prefer a wood box with leather accents instead. But..........welcome to the 21st century. Nothing is made to last anymore.
