Thank you, for the good tutorial also. just great!

Looks good, I wonder if I could you use those cheap flag pole kits for mounting

Wish you could go into the practical use of your inventions and so them working on an off grid situation to show how well they work. Just feels like your videos are 1/2 done.

How do you make the output from the generator until useful 12volt current?
@rodneydickleman2974 жыл бұрын
rectifier to dc voltage, then to a charge controller.

Why not a shielded vawt, makes more power with the same wind
@OpenSourceLowTech4 жыл бұрын
The Lenz2 design is both lift and drag, so you gain extra power from the attack side. In terms of funneling, possibly, tho it's quite a bit more apparatus to have to build for not necessarily that much more power.

OpenSourceLowTech ok thats cool, could you make a video where you make easy to craft dc or ac generator setup, coils and magnets?

What are the blades made of..?
@OpenSourceLowTech7 жыл бұрын
Aluminium printing plates. Can get them used from most offset printing companies at recycling prices, usually about a dollar apiece. Check the tutorial link for more information on materials.

The big problem with wind turbine power claims is they claim the maximum power at crazy amount of wind speed, not the average power. Average wind speed for most areas is closer to 13 km/h.
@OpenSourceLowTech7 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I just give mechanical output for various wind speeds, after that it's going to depend on what kind of generation and charge capacity you've attached. There's a problem with using average wind speeds to calculate available power but it's a bit long to go into here. Essentially, nothing is a one size fits all solution. Wind turbines should only be considered if you live somewhere with a bunch of wind, and even then it's only going to be useful on certain days, at certain times of year, in certain locations. But if the schema is low cost, then you're not having to pay back any serious investment and it'll at least be helpful for some number of people.

It's actually misleading to say it cost $30 because with new materials it would be way over that
@OpenSourceLowTech7 жыл бұрын
That's why it's designed to be makeable from recycled materials, which are usually easy enough to find. The turbine itself usually costs about $25-30, with the generator, pole, charging system extra, but there are also various options for doing all those with scrap and salvaged parts.
@rusty01017 жыл бұрын
It's going to be even more expensive if I go buy sheets of gold to make the blades out of. They won't corrode, but I suspect they will vanish quite frequently... If the idea is to make the device out of salvaged materials, but it does require some non-salvage material, then the price quoted should be what the builder had to out of pocket for the materials that had to be purchased new.
@OpenSourceLowTech7 жыл бұрын
I've not yet had to pay more than $30 for the turbine itself, for all the bits, recycled and store bought. Once you get downstream from that, for the various infrastructure and apparatus, it gets very how-long-is-a-piece-of-string, depending on all the various options and needs, and giving fixed prices is no longer possible. But I am in the process of designing very low cost solutions for that also, and that information will be broadcast.

JNo way will you ever get 2kw from that , ever , misleading in the extreme
@kreynolds11234 жыл бұрын
I believe you made a mistake in the units units. 2kw of power does not equal 2kwh of energy. 0:37 He said it was currently generating about 100 watts in that wind, and incidentally, 100 watts over less than a day, like say 20 hours = 2kwh of energy.
