Greetings! Very warm bowls can be caused by dry tobacco that burns too hot. Virginia tobacco is another culprit because of the high sugar content. A very thin cake can also be a potential cause. However I think you might have stumbled over a very dense block of briar, and your description is spot-on, it’s like the heat cannot escape the briar. This is quite literally what is happening. Because of the high density, the heat transfer is just not as fast. The pipe should smoke cooler once the cake starts building up.

To find one unsmoked is a nice find indeed.

Hi Thomas! You bought some really nice pipes here! I also once bought a Georg Jensen 50th Anniversary pipe as an estate and it also has putty spots. It smokes very well but I sure was surprised that a handmade anniversary pipe has such defects. Thanks for the interesting videos and kind regards, Johannes

I have a H.C. Anders churchwarden similar to yours and my bowl also goes REALLY HOT.!! It’s sad because the pipe is very nice.

Hi brother I hope you’re doing well I have a question We all know there are many blends that either cased or topped with alcoholic beverages, My question is: 1- does all the alcohol evaporates during the smoking process 2- in other words does the alcohol enters our system when we smoke these blends
