Hey, just FYI I have discovered that the secret to better SDs in 300 blackout subsonic is to seat the bullets as deep in the case as you can rather than to mag length. For example I run 208elds at 2.15 oal and 242gr Noe cast at 2.05oal. Seating the 208elds at 2.26 gives 100fps swings, seating at 2.15 gives single digit SDs. Give it a try if you ever load subs again.

That makes me think back to the issues I had with powder position. If I held muzzle down before shooting, I got one velocity. If I held it up, I got something completely different. Really weird inconsistent ignition with certain powders. A nice full case of powder always seems to ignite better. I did some testing with case fillers to take up the excess space, but just seating things deeper accomplishes the same thing! That would be my best guess at a root cause of your success.
@spyderxtra7772 жыл бұрын
@@JohnnysReloadingBench I had the most success overall with h110 for my sub loads, cfeblk and lilgun have been respectable as well after I discovered the “shortest possible OAL” trick. Lilgun is a quirky powder but if you can find a load that works it definitely wins the least gas in the face award while shooting suppressed. at least in my gun.

I’m not a reloader unfortunately, yet…, but I remember back in the day when guys were running subsonic 300 Whisper they said that hey loaded a wad or case filler such as saw dust. I’m pretty sure they did this with bolt guns and single shots and that saw dust would clog up the gas port. Just a thought.

A great use for the 150g gold dot (blk version) is the 300 HAM'R. It can push the bullet between 2250-2300fps at the muzzle. Given the performance at low velocity, the increased velocity from the HAM'R puts the bullet in it's optimal performance velocity range. It makes a great deer cartridge inside of 200 yards. A modern 30-30 if you will.

First off, big fan of the vids. I learned how to form and reload 300 blackout watching your videos. I got mine up to 1800fps out of a 10.5" BA barrel using CFE BLK. It is a full case load, on the razors edge of compressed, at 2.204 oal with no pressure. Shooting .5 MOA and single digit SD. Several whitetail and hogs down. All hunting under or barely at 100yrds.

I worked a load up for my son's 300 BLK last summer. 125 gr. Cavity Back MKZ with 18.0 grains of H110. Just under 1 MOA @ 2185 fps with a SD of 3.5 fps. He smoked an 8 pt. on Christmas Eve with this load. 65 yards and dropped him in his tracks with a pass through behind the shoulder shot. I'm thinking about trying these in 6.5 Grendel.

FYI there is an entire 38 page thread over on 300BlkTalk in the main discussion area started by user dellet with tons of good info on loading this bullet. I would link, but YT doesn't like links. My favorite load uses Shooter's World Blackout and CCI#41. That powder is roughly 100fps per grain and behaves really well when at or near compression. These are super accurate out of my 14.5 1:7 barrel consistently grouping under an inch when I do my part. I recommend somewhere between 19.00 and 19.50 as a starting charge with 2.200 OAL. You can safely push loads to about 2100fps (right around 21 grains) without much trouble, though it will start to compress after that. If you are really ambitious with a bolt/barrel you trust over 60kpsi, I've gotten 2200fps before I stopped, but I wouldn't recommend unless you are confident in your equipment.

When I 1st got into thermal hog hunting and suppressors I naturally started playing with 300 Blackout. I've owned uppers from 7.5 to 16 inch and I loved how quiet it was and carrying a SBR around all night is nice because they're lite but I started losing hogs a lot especially once they got out there over 100 yards or when I was using subsonic ammo even at closer ranges. All the guys I hunted with went through the 300 Blackout phase but they all went back to their AR's chambered in things like 6.5 Grendel or 6.8SPC. But we also hunt for landowners on farms and ranches so we need to kill hogs every chance we get and the 300 Blackout limited us to the shorter ranges. Not to mention if a hog runs a couple hundred yards at night you'll never find them and that meant we we're littering the properties with dead hogs instead of us hauling them off to the bone yards like the landowners wanted us to do. I'd love to see what that Blackout Gold Dot will do out of a 308 even at normal velocities to see if they hold together... Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

It will explode, its not made for those velocities. In that regard its hardly any diffrent from any other lead bullet in same weight. It wont expand past a certain ammount. What you will loose is terminal performance, to much energy will be lost in the beginning. Just use the 168 wich is designed for the 308.. I would not want to eat the meat you use this on 3000fps or whatever velocity you use it on. And for varmint, thin skinned animals, you really want something with a ballistic tip or hollow point.

@@jmkhenka I don’t think the expansion in this test was anywhere near the point of coming apart. I use the 62 gold dot in 22-250 and it holds together even at those velocities. Besides even full throttle 308 isn’t likely to get a 150 over 3000 fps.

I’ve had to guesstimate load data for CFEblk since I can’t find 1680 or data for it (not even from hodgdon or Wilson combat😐), but you can get a healthy bump in velocity over blackout. plus the slower twist and tighter chamber / throat “super optimized” barrel absolutely stacks them in. Should be getting 2,400-2,500 fps with a compressed max charge with the 125 grain TNT’s, not 100% on the 150’s but I’d guess 2,000-2,100 fps with more or less 100% fill/ max. These gold dots grouped really well but I don’t have terminated performance data yet.

I dont know as much as someone else. But if I'm not mistaken 300blk out barrels are commonly made for heavy bullets. Maybe if you had a slower twist rate it could improve at least the accuracy. As for mushrooming something like the 30-30 or 7.62x39 may provide better capabilities.

Idk, my 16inch 1n8 twist 300blackout is damn near doing single holes with 125gr PPU FMJ. 3 holes touching at 100yrds. As for the barrels they tend to pick twist rates that work for both subs and supers....which is why you commonly see 1n8 or 1n7. 1n5 exists too in a 5inch barrel. 7.62x39 bullets are too big at .310 diameter. 300blackout uses .308 projectiles. Loading .310s would have negative impact on performance or worse you get bullets stuck in the barrel if they even chamber

Im really curious if the 300 BLK-OUT version would do at 308 velocities. Would it frag. or mushroom amazingly well. You really need the Lee ball cutter and a case prep station. Easier on the hands. Can you work in some more K31 content?

I recognize the Lee case feeder as I had one on a Pro 1000 about 30 years ago. I do not recognize the press. It has to have a pass through shell holder. That would be an ideal setup for all of my .223 and .30-30 based wildcats. Can you please let me know what all is included in your set up? Or send me a link to a video if you have one? Thanks!

Accurate #9 is fantastic for full-house 44 mag

Where did you get them? I can't find them anywhere. These are fantastic on whitetail deer. I use Lil gun and the expansion was great on the animal I was able to recover the bullet from. My longest distance is 150 yards and have taken deer at 50 to 65 yards none ran further than 25 yards. I don't think it would be good much further than 150. 1.5" group at 100 yards with my load and that seems standard for my barrel

I've had them for several years

Are you aware that the red powder measure cap fits1lb bottles? Probably 8lb bottles too but there may be interference issues.

Try Lil Gun or CFE Blk powder. I have had very good results with both powders and the speer 150gr gold dot blackout bullet.

Hello Johnny my question is not related to this video, but about anyone of your videos where you check your reloaded rounds in your AR receivers seeing if they will cycle. Do you remove the ejector spring from the bolt when you do this? Thank You.

OK, I'm a fan and I've watched your channel for some time now, however I would like to ask a question. I have an unfired Armalite AR10T with a 24" stainless factory barrel in 308 that I would like to shoot as well as some of your efforts. I have a batch of Tubbs break-in bullets and I will follow the instructions, 10 rounds followed by cleaning, x5. After that where would you suggest I start to develop a "go to load"? It would be nice to get groups in the sub 1" @ 100 yards as you seem to do with regularity. Do you think it is attainable with a factory barrel? Thanks

Think you will ever do a 8.6 blackout?

I know they are a little pricey, but It might be impossible to beat the Barnes TAC TX for Supersonic 300 Black

That Barnes tac tx is a beast. So hard to find too even though it's so pricy.

You should try the 190 gr Hornady Sub-x for 300 BLK . They advertise expansion down to 900fps

Hey! Any recommendation for Vihtavuori n110 with hornady 110 vmax 300blk? Have you ever considered a 1/5 300 blk barrel? Keep on being awesome!

You didn't mention it, but where most of the Hotcores penciling straight through the gel? I saw only one recovered, but when watching the gel, it looked like several bullets passed through.
@JohnnysReloadingBench2 жыл бұрын
The hot cors and the regular gold dots both had several pass throughs.

I found that using Bluetooth with Lab Radar drained it's battery much quicker and it was constantly loosing connection with my Android phone. How's your connection? Also was was very frustrated with how you need to put the setting in handgun mode to track these velocities, lots of ammo wasted, you would think that a $500 device would be able to autotune it's setting after the 1st shot. Also I noticed in the last video you got 7000+ fps in one of your shots, I get that quite often, anywhere from 7k to 20k fps and can't figure out what's causing it but beginning to suspect that the muzzle blast might be rocking my tripod and that's what's causing it. I found that my tripod head needs some tightening.
