All of the BMWs from the 1970s sat squat on the road giving them an aggressive look. This Bimmer looks like it's about to pounce on something. Love these old BMWs.
@nicomeier80984 жыл бұрын
Indeed, the wide wheelarches, the big (BBS?) wheels, it's the look I love. Ever seen classic BMW's from that era racing? Fantastic stuff, they look and sound as it should, like the Porsche Carrera Turbo 2.1, extremely wide and loud, great stuff.

I’ve got a 74 with a very built m10b20 making in the 160-170 range, e21 overdrive and a 3.91 rear end, it’s pretty much stripped and is call it not fast but certainly quick. But I’m also in the midst of a turbo m20b25 in a 76. Mated with an e36 m3 ZF and an e30 rear subframe. I’d call that more of a hot rod though, I can’t imagine it’s going to handle nearly as well as my 74. How did this car do on those roads? Feel somewhat nose heavy?

Awesome car, awesome engine, awesome tires ! What sbout the E 30 engine ..2,5 / 2,8 or 3,0 Liter ?
@mrt71524 жыл бұрын
Cool car :-) I have owned and driven many 02. I still have one on this day. But something changes with the handling when you plant a heavy 6 cylinder into the car. The power is ofcourse nice but the palyfull handling of a 02 is a bit lost with a heavy engine infront. With an m10 and a turbo you can also easily squeeze out 300hp and the m10 is really durable and strong. An m42 or s42 would also be excellent. A bare s42 is even lighter and shorter than a M10 which improves the handling. But don’t get me wrong I do think you have a really cool car looks really tight and clean I even like the color. Excellent job!!
@pnwproject46534 жыл бұрын
what about a bare m20 with ITB, do you think that will still throw off the weight?
@mrt71524 жыл бұрын
@@pnwproject4653 well the m20 is a big amount longer than a M10 and the weight infront of the front wheels changes the behavior. You are going for power or the sound of a bmw straight 6?
@pnwproject46534 жыл бұрын
@@mrt7152 well we recently bought 4 BMW 2002s so for one of them we were thinking about maybe having more power. So just looking at options. It looks like the m20 swap is very popular I just would not want to lose the fun tosability of the 2002

@@pnwproject4653 build a stroker m42 with itb’s. Than is reasonable cheap and puts out 210 ~ 250hp. If you need tech details i can provide some options but you can find a lot of m42 strokers with specs on youtube.

This car is pretty sick. But I’m gonna be ‘that guy’ and say if it were me I’d lose the stance, excess camber and replace wheels with somewhat more “period correct” Ronal R10 “Turbo” wheels; 15x7 machined silver with black accents and 205/50/15 Pirelli P700Z tires. I had the Ronals and Pirelli’s in the early 2000’s on my E21 and god I loved the look of those things on a small, 70’s shark nose BMW E21. The Ronals look out of place on anything built in the 1980’s or later.
@rootsmanuva824 жыл бұрын
The turbo really mellows out the bark of an M20 and it almost sounds like a mildly tuned 2JZ. I’m not knocking it, thank god it doesn’t have a 2JZ. That’s a fantastic motor but it doesn’t belong in a 2002. A built NA M10 (or S14) or turbo M10 would’ve been awesome too.

Yea not a fan of the wheel fitment and the "Slammed" look, especially on a classic like this but whatever..........one question why do so many folks who desire a wider track resort to the 2002 turbo flares and not the ac schitnzer or alpina style flares? I mean it's like putting a type R badge and japanese type R bumper on a non type R Integra.........it's a little awkward............. Alpina and ac shitnzer as tuners, sold the flares to customer cars and gentleman racers of period.

Good thoughts. we love getting different opinions.

Definitely chocolate vs. vanilla. Since this has a turbo, maybe turbo flares make sense(?). I am definitely in camp schnitzer box flares! Planning on them for my '76.. someday. Still debating m20 vs. m10 turbo. I was really planning on m20, but I'm thinking I could live with the output of an m10 turbo and just maybe be a little sad about the missing torque.
