Today we explore the European continent's ancient past, beginning with the reign of dinosaurs during the Carboniferous period, through their extinction 65 million years ago. The documentary then shifts to the subsequent era where mammals rose to prominence in Europe. It covers the evolution of sea mammals, the spread of herbivorous herds across the land, and culminates with the appearance of Homo Heidelbergensis, who began hunting in Europe around 600,000 years ago, marking the early stages of human history on the continent.

Step back to the Carboniferous period, 100 million years before the dinosaurs. In terms of absolute time, the Carboniferous Period began approximately 358.9 million years ago and ended 298.9 million years ago. Its duration of approximately 60 million years makes it the longest period of the Paleozoic Era and the second longest period of the Phanerozoic Eon. Britannica
