Went through several cheaper grills, including a Nexgrill. The weak points were the burners, which start to degrade quickly and usually fall apart within 2 to 3 years. Cooking consistency becomes a problem right away. Bought a Weber Spirit 200 three years ago, and it cooks as well today as it did the first day I assembled it, and we grill with it far more often than any other grill we've owned (a couple of times a week, on average). It did need new heat tents this year, but that's expected and they are pretty inexpensive to replace. Igniter is still on the original battery, and grill always lights on the first push. A great product. Also, replaced the original grates with GrillGrates, which added tremendously to food flavor and juiciness. Great combo. Plan to use this setup for many years to come.

I have a legit question. I have only had one gas grill, and its 2 years old and about done. Mine is just a $200 Walmart grill, I think charbroil. In its defense it has cooked at least 10 lbs of chicken a week. Sometimes 20lbs a day. I grill leg quarters for livestock guardian dogs. So I buy 50 lbs of chicken at a time. And I eat it too. So this grill earned its keep. But I am a little confused as to why the burners burn up if they as well as the tents are stainless steel?
@richardstern92882 жыл бұрын
@@billwilliams9897 Stainless is "stain-LESS"; it is not impervious to discoloration and rust. There are many different grades of stainless steel. Steel is basically iron + a small amount of carbon. Stainless steel is made by adding additional elements, primarily chromium, along with small amounts of silicon, manganese, and others. The amount of these other elements (which are generally much more expensive than iron and carbon) determine the grade of stainless steel. There are other issues as well. Generally speaking, the more stainless a steel is made, the harder it is, and the more difficult it is to machine and form into shapes. It becomes brittle as it gets harder and more impervious to rust. So it's a metalurgiacal balancing act. Higher quality stainless parts cost more to make. You can be certain: Budget grills use lower quality stainless parts.

I have a weber Genesis II E-Series, one model below the S - Series. I've also had 3-4 previous grills at the $300-$350 range, typically those grills burners have dissolved by year #4, and the entire grill is 100% junked by year #5. Some of those grills had decreased performance by year #3. I'm on year #2 with the weber E-Series. By what I am seeing I expect this grill will work beyond 7 years. The first component to go will be the flavor enhancers/flame guards and those are deliberately sold as replaceable components. I've repaired some of these grills in the past. If you call the manufacture they will replace parts under warranty. The manufactures are quite nice about it, but the hardware that bolts most of these grills together is junk, and none of the $300-$350 models will survive beyond 5 years if you move them or use them like I do (2-3 times a week, all year round). Lastly Grills from weber and napoleon are basically almost completely repairable with every part being available for replacement. My final comments are this. If you grill infrequently, clean and cover your grill there are $300-$350 grills out there that are worth it. Some like the nextgrill are excellent at direct grilling, and only ok at indirect grilling. The weber and napoleon models over $600 are built to last and be repaired. Weber and napolean have less expensive models and those give up some of the higher quality stainless steel components for lower quality stainless steel. Those cook better (direct and indirect) than less expensive other brands, but for most people they just aren't worth the money. If you are looking at those more expensive models understand you are not looking at a 5 year product and like most other expensive tools/appliances you'll have a little bit of TLC and maintenance if you want to keep them operating. Assuming you do, the value grows as time goes on. 5 years of a reliable grill that never develops annoying issues or falls apart and can handle any practical or even impractical cooking tasks starts to become a more tangible trait as time progresses. I've baked a pizza and made a cake on my weber grill. I wouldn't endorse trying that on many of the other models, as the hot spots and indirect heat control isn't up to the task. In short...need a grill for burgers and you only grill on occasions, yeah the $300-$350 grill is for you. Want to do it all, and are willing to invest...there's a market for that as well.

Looks like, according to your estimates of each grill's longevity and considering the prices, a body could have 3 of the nexgrills @ $300 ea. and average of 3 years serviceability for an outlay of $900 as opposed to only 7 years of the Weber at $1080. The math says the nexgrill prorates out at approximately $100 per year and the Weber rates at approximately $154 per year. I am not a fan of propane grills myself as I prefer my big, "Kamado" But it's not cheap so it's a whole nother ball game. If you do a lot of grilling and smoking and you like being able to take control of the cooking temperature, then it's an outdoor chef's dream.

I have many years of grill experience both direct and indirect with propane and charcoal. I agree with much of what this fellow has said. I would like to add, If you like the convenience of a quick cook or direct grilling, propane would be your best fit. There is a lot to be said for the convenience of a new grill every two to three years. Many retailers offer free assembly with the sale. I tend to lean more toward indirect grilling and smoking which requires more time and lends itself well to charcoal and or wood fire. Weber kettle is hard to beat. Good luck

I think the situation is a ymmv type situation here. I have a $300 Brinkmann 4 burner with sear burner and outside burner that I've had for the past ten years. It looks aged , the bottom plate is a little rusty, and I just bought replacement internal hardware as the current hardware looks quite rough but it's been ten years. I've mainly had it covered in a decent fabric cover but it sits on the deck. It has sat in weeks of rain during those times that I'm lazy. I did paint the screws with grill paint when I put it together to avoid rust which proves to be a good thing as it still looks pretty good given its age. At this point, I'm not convinced an expensive model would get more value if you only take care of your stuff. Think outside the box to maintain it and it should take care of you.

Sorry buddy, what part exactly of the weber grills differs in the built material here compared to the nexgrill? Your buying into a brand, simple as that. As much as it hurts to hear. Same that I did with a Broil King. Regret it massively, ye its still going after 7 years, but why would the nex not?
Cooked on the Nexgrill and it does the job. Taste from a propane grill it’s all the same basically stove cooking but it’s how the meat is seasoned. What’s going to happen to both is a grease mess underneath the grills it’s easy to clean but it’s gonna take some time. Not sure why you need “smart” functions on a grill but I’m from Texas I cook and I’m done when it comes to grilling. I prefer charcoal before propane but if you want to be outside and don’t like waiting for white hot charcoals the Nexgrillwill get it done at a much cheaper price. Don’t be fooled by the “bells and whistles” when it comes to grilling. You need fire, grates and good meat. The bigger the grill the more to clean.

I think the purpose of buying an expansive grill is to hope it will last longer. If you bring in any 2 new or almost new grills from any of those big stores they should be working fine. A weber cost around 1k gives 10 years warranty and a nexgrill only gives 1 year. Weber can last 10-15 years and if you are willing to change some parts it might last 30-40years. a nexgrill maybe last 4-7 years?? I would definitely go for Weber to save money in the long term. Also, Weber spirit 210 only cost around $550 with the same warranty and quility

The parts on the Nexgrill are also replaceable. I just gave away my Weber Genesis, like the one shown, and enjoyed the iGrill feature for sure. The gas indicator (by weight) and the sensor which appears in iGrill are also convenient but not all that accurate. The button to switch on the led ring lights around the knobs broke within 2 years, but it's not like they were actually useful in any way. I previously owned a Kirkland bbq which was manufactured by Nexgrill. That thing was a behemoth. In the rough (costantly damp) conditions of the Pacific NW the burners on that thing didn't last very long (I'd say every two years they needed replacement). We bbq several times per week all year round. For sure, the Nexgrill is more likely a disposable grill but then in some way they all are unless you are one of those people that grills 3 times per year and makes a big deal about it. You can't deny the value in the Nexgrill.

One was perfect the other needed more time and they would vary in cook time, despite usually having consistent meat (size, shape, quality). Weber nails it just about the same times each time. And I can do things like slow long cook roasts on the weber which I would never try with the nexgrill. Yeah, this comparison was a dud.

Your review was lagging on the mechanical features of both grills like the spider shields that the Weber has around the burner tubes, or size of the air gap between the back of the grill lid and the base (the Weber is about a half an inch were the Nexgrill is almost two inches). Also the Weber has a drip shield on the back of the grill lid so when it rains, the rain water doesn't roll back into the grill and overflow the drip pan. How did the grills perform when its windy outside? (maybe you should have set up a couple of fans to test). These are the kind of things that are to be Reviewed when comparing products. Having two separate car manufactures with the vehicles moving at the same speed reaching the same destination at the same time doesn't 'Compare/Review' the two cars!

I asked the guys about consistency in cooking and neither grill had an issue. That could change over time if you don't consistently clean the grills, and I would actually be a bit more concerned with it on this particular Weber model because of the proximity of the burners on the right side to create that searing station, along with the extra internal pieces (the Weber has flavorizer bars as well as heat deflectors while the Nexgrill only has the deflectors).

I could see paying triple for a Weber if it lasted 3-4 times as long and had a better overall cook, but otherwise i keep coming back to the comments others have made- i could buy a new nexgrill every 5 years and still come out ahead financially (I actually enjoy putting them together so that's not a factor). We often entertain so really need the bigger surface or i'd be tempted to get the midgrade weber as a compromise, and we grill nearly year round. Ultimately i'd love to be able to justify a Weber because i think they're built better, but spending $1000 on a grill just seems impossible to justify. Also thought I'd add i never use the side burner when grilling, but always get a grill with burner because it's exceedingly handy when the power goes out!

The cheaper grills will last you a lot longer if you clean and cover them. Its the lack of maintenance and exposure to the elements year round that really takes a toll on it. You should ask yourself how often you are going to grill and are you going to clean and cover it. I bought a grill like this for my cabin but it stays covered and will only see use once or twice every 2 weeks at the most.

Even with covers, the cheaper grills only last a few years. The quality comes in the extras. Weber grills (most if not all) have cast aluminum burn boxes and stainless steel burners. These are the two most fail points of cheaper grills. Also another point of better grills is the sturdiness of the cabinet/stand. The nexgrill has an open back, that if not covered, is open to rain getting inside the cabinet.

Can't say I agree with this video at all. I've owned a Nextgrill and a few Webers (recently picked up a Genesis SPX-435 which is amazing) and it's not even close. The Nextgrills are not only cheaply made, they have a giant design flaw in that the burners and flavor bars are WAYYYYYY to close to the grate which causes constant flare ups, full on grease fires and hot/cold spots. And as others have pointed out, the cheap construction means that they rot out super quick....if you get 3 years out of one of these things without a burner rotting or part of the firebox rotting, you will be lucky. And Nextgrill has crappy support and it's difficult to find parts which pretty much makes these things disposable. Weber is totally opposite. Fantastic support, plenary of parts, great aftermarket/3rd party parts and a solid community of people that love to grill. And the results are so much better than the Nextgrill. This thing can get to around 700 degrees quick with little variance across the grill, holds heat well and even if there is an occasional flare up, the thing isn't catching on fire. Don't waste your time with Nextgrill. If you are on a budget, then just get a lower model Weber and it will still run circles around anything Nextgrill puts out.

Unfortunately, customer service was complex. We ordered the part and paid for overnight shipping. The part never arrived. We called and learned that the part was out of stock. Fine, I understand. However, it would have been nice to know that when we ordered it. We re-ordered and again requested overnight shipping. Again, the same issue happened even though they had checked stock this time. Ordered again. Same issue. Now, after 2 months, and having to call them four times, we hope to have our part delivered in two days. I understand there is a supply chain issue, but customer service should have been able to check stock or at least notify us that the part was not coming. Having to call four times and trying to get through to a person was a waste of time. I feel like Weber is a brand that will last, and perhaps that justifies the expense, but since it is three times more expensive, the Nextgrill may be a good option. When this grill fails, I will likely get a Nextgrill instead of coughing up over $1,200 for another grill.

You guys should follow up with a 2 year update and a 10 year update. My guess, the Nexgrill will be out by the curb at 2 years and the Weber will still be cooking in 10 years, if you can't afford to spend $1000 on a grill, look at the Weber spirit line, which can be had for around $500. Not sure why they put a $1000 grill against a $300 one? If $500 is out of the budget, pick up a used Weber off craigslist, will still outlast this Nexgrill.

We have 2 NexGrill at work and they work, but we have to replace them every couple of years because the burners get holes in them and the hinges break. I have a Weber Spirit that lasted 9 years out in the weather before the parts rusted to the point I stopped using it. I just bought a 10 yr old Weber Genesis that looks like new and will last many more years. My father's 24 year old Weber Genesis is semi-sheltered and is still going strong.

Actually in Canada, the price difference is 5 times for large grills 750 sq in: $350 under promo vs $1700. No way I can justify the price difference and I'll feel guilty if I buy the expensive one. I bought cheap one with zero maintenance and lasted 9 years. If I buy an expensive one, I'll feel the obligation of doing regular maintenance. But with a cheap one that can last 5-10 years with zero maintenance, with fraction of price 1/5, I can't go wrong in my opinion. We grill only from April to November

I can tell you why you want the weber genesis. I’ve had mine for 14 years and it looks brand new. And not touch the burners or the flavor bars at all. The entire bottom below the burners pulls out so you can clean all the drippings Preventing flareups. Plus the Weber cooks chicken absolutely perfect and when it’s on medium it’s exactly 400° which is the exact medium temperature. Extra money spent in the long run will be well worth it.

I’ve owned both. The next grill lasted 3 years. Everything on the inside rusted, burners, covers over the burners and the catch tray under the burners. I’ve had my Weber for 3 years now and it looks almost new. A good cleaning and it would look new. If he would have shown a side by side comparison of the parts used inside the grill one could see why there is a price difference. Also one is made in America one in China. I will let you figure out which is which. Weber hands down is the best. Same money by the time you replace that next grill in the next year few years.

I assembled grills for my job at a big box store and you did a terrible comparison video. ANY grill can cook burgers and dogs. One key factor in the longevity of a grill is ease of cleaning and availability of parts - you mentioned neither. The Weber design makes cleaning the firebox a breeze and has been around a long time - parts will be available for years, but sure, go ahead and buy the cheap grill. You’ll find yourself buying another new grill in 2-3 years when it rusts out on you. Your review was a big waste of time.

The problem with this review is he should do it after 3 years of use. The Nexgrill will be trash and the Weber will still be working like new. You get what you pay for with grills. I just bought a new Weber and gave my old Weber to my son. It is over ten years old. Had to replace the burners and it's good for another 5 years +.

I have that nexgrill, bought it almost 2 years ago, 2 winters and 2nd summer started and the drip tray is completely rotted, the burners are rusted and holes have to be rust scraped often and the grills are pretty shot also, not to mention the heat plates are junk, and I bbq homemade burgers every week all year.. I'll definitely be looking for weber or similar that will work for 10yrs without rotting out. JMO 👍
@freddyoner3 жыл бұрын
You can justify it when you realize that next grill will only last you two years if it gets left out in the elements. Also, Weber has $200-$800 that will still outlast that next grill. I bought a Weber in 2006 that still performs like the first day. I don’t put the grill cover on it. It gets rained and snowed on. I had to replace the flame starter and the thermometer once. Before I bought my Weber I was buying grills on the $200-$300 range every other year. You cannot compare grills based the burgers or eve features that much. What matters most is built quality and how long they last in your backyard. If I had kept buying my regular next grill I would have spent $1500 in 10 years. I only spent $750 on my 4 burner grill with a side cook top.

That’s what I don’t like about grills these days. They put the burners higher up and they get really hot and it’s harder to cook at lower temps. I prefer lava rock grills due to the fact the rock disperses the heat so much better. A bonus to this is the rocks carry the heat and I have used that to cut off grill and finish cooking just with the reserved heat. Most things I cook I like a slow and low cook and these newer grills like to cook way hotter than the older grills. You have to cut off 2/3 of your burners in order to keep heat down and they are harder to maintain one temp.

Hate to be negative, but this review is not very helpful. Almost any propane grill can grill burgers and stuff like that, whether they're $100 or $1000. You don't pay $1,000 to cook a burger patty. What sets grills apart is heat retention, even indirect heat (most grills like this can't even get meat hot enough through indirect heat becase the heat just vents right out do to poor lid design), and even heat throughout the cooking surface. You didn't cover any of these issues.

There is definitely a problem with this review. It was the other reviews like this one, why I bought a Nexgrill, exactly like the one in your video and was sorry I ever bought it. Now I have a Weber Genisis II S-335 like the one in your video and I am positive I made the best decision possible. In fact, I will go so far as to say, the Weber Genisis II S-335 is worth at least 3 times the price of the Nexgrill and maybe even more! While no high end grilling system, Weber puts a lot of thought into the build. They line the hood, use a cast aluminum body, 304 stainless burners and a cabinet design that prevents water collection on the metal. The Nexgrill I own, wore out in 3 years. And in that time, I replaced burners once, flavor bars twice, ignition system onve, and grates once. Then the stainless body of the grill fell apart. The problem with the Nexgrill, is that the stainless steel is not 304 stainless, but some inferior grade that deterioates rapidly. This is especially true with the burners. My 3 year old nexgrill was in such miserable condition that I put it on the curb with a free note, and the scrap collectors took it for its metal. I have had a Weber grill in the past, and it has been my experience and many other peoples experiences that show the Weber grill to last 10-20 years. So, in fact, there is value in the difference in build quality. Don't make the bad choice to buy the Nexgrill based on short sided reviews like this one. Save your money and buy a grill that will hold up better. If you want a better built, quality grill, then be prepared to shell out $4,000 or more. As others put it, under about $800, you are buying junk. $1000-$2000 is a quality grill. $2000-$4000 is a premium grill and $4000-$14000 is considered a luxary, (professional quality), grill. In the quality grill area, Most important is the body of the cooking area. Cast aluminum makes for a better grill. 304 stainless burners, flavor bars and grates are ideal. Smart design, like a hood liner is important. Burner heat shields are important to prevent flare-ups. Weber has these things, Nexgrill does not!

You’re missing the point ..in a few years that nextel to grill is going to rot out.. the constant heating and cooling will destroy the inferior frame cover, etc. of that unit. With the Weber eventually all grills, will need burners replaced.. and with the Weber. It’s well worth to rebuild it . Meaning replacing the parts that we’re out but the unit itself will last a long time.

The original SS burners still work like new as well as the ignition system and not a spec of rust. I had a Nexgrill that the bottom rusted out after 2 years. But hey, at least the burners still worked. Lol.... Nexgrill is no comparison. Sure you can fire up any brand new grill and get similar results. But in 10 years that Nexgrill will be in a landfill with 8years of garbage piled on it. The Weber will still be cooking like the day you bought it with minimal maintenance. You get what you pay for.

One thing that you can’t test is longevity…cheaper grills are thin material metal material and warp really easy during high heat. Plus corrosion is a big issue with cheaper grills.

Nexgrills on average have a higher heat output, too, which would likely contribute to decay of the materials. That's another thing to keep in mind when comparing the brands.

You can look up videos of people restoring 30-year-old weber gas grills by sticking $50 worth of parts in them and they run like new. This is because Weber uses cast aluminum fire boxes in their grills which do not rust. On the other hand you can look at videos of people showing their 3 to 4-year-old cheap grills and the whole firebox is rotted out on them.

I skimmed some comments - maybe someone else mentioned it-the BTU's on the Weber...always wondered about that until I bought one...I will never use another BBQ. Weber Genesis heats up HOT, fast and cooks evenly...all with less BTU...The heavy lid and cookbox are key to this efficiency...they retain and redirect heat much better than the thinly made models...you may be able to buy three new Nexgrill BBq for the price of one Weber-but tbh...you are better off buying a used Weber in good condition that may only need a little cleaning for the same money as a new Nexgrill and you will have made the better investment...and if a $1200 grill doesn't affect your lifestyle any different than a $300 grill...just get a new Weber...you truly won't regret it...my meats come out juicier and more evenly cooked on a used 14yr old Weber Genesis with new stainless flavorizer bars and new stainless grates than on a new Nexgrill or Charbroil Infrared...I used to be skeptical...but hands down better outdoor cooking investment IMHO

At the time we recorded the video, the two we chose were the most comparable options for each brand - both grills were the most affordable options with 4 burners. If anything, I'd say we were biased towards weber because it's not *technically* considered a 4 burner but a 3 burner with a special searing station.

you cant compare them over just one session. i myself also feel like the weber being 8x more expensive. but its not that. you have to consider the quality of the parts etc. im sure they both do similar whilst cooking. but how long will the nex grill last. we all know webers, if yhou take care of them, they will last a looooooong time. in the end its all about yourself, how much are you willing to pay for a gas grill. i would definatley buy the nex grill. id rather buy a new one after a few years and save me a buck or three. although i own a weber spirit. but with owning that for 2 years now, id say id rather pay less for a not so known brand and rather swap it out often than paying what weber wants.
