@bryanquijanesortega32215 жыл бұрын
@@mysterioushoodedfigure1566 You are trying to rewrite history, the duty of the spartan women was to procreate strong children and make them survive their early childhood years, I am not trying to denigrate them in any way, they did a good job in their assigned role. They weren't near the fighting. However they received training in dancing and phisical training, (but nothing remotely close to the hard training of the males), because healthy women have healthy children.

I know that this film takes a crap load of liberties with what actually went on. I know that Artemisia wasn't actually Greek and that she was a well respected leader on both sides. I know that it would be laughable to see a woman on a Greek battlefield and even more laughable to see a Spartan woman anywhere near the fighting. I know that the Spartan role in the Battle of Salamis was negligible and the day could have been easily won without them. I know all this, but when I saw the Spartan ships unfurl their black sails and the music swelled and the ships started crashing into each other I just did NOT care!
@skatoules4569 жыл бұрын
+112steinway you can search and find a video on youtube, it is an actuall documentary of Hist. Channel which shows what really happened at the invasion of persia to greece. It shows that in reality the batltle of thermopolae and the battle of salamis took place at the same time. In fact Themestocles was backing up for Leonidas so the persian ships dont surround him in Thermopolae. Also regarding women you are right when you say that they didn't take part in fights but it is a fact that spartan women received fight training so they could defend their selves if someone attemted to rape or kill them.
@skatoules4569 жыл бұрын

It was upsetting to me that Leonidas's wife hated Themistocles so much that she didn't even want to aid him in battle. When you have a common enemy whose desire is to wipe you from the face of the earth, that's when it's time to momentarily put aside differences and work together. The only reason she eventually came to his aid in the end was a means of avenging the death of her husband, and even then it was after Themistocles lost a good number of men.
@russellscala5930 Жыл бұрын
The queen…. No shield, full of rage and bravery to defend her husband and country. Her face. Fearless,… That was the most bad ass scene I’ve ever seen with a woman warrior having the full respect of men. Full respect. She was unbelievable. They all knew it. lordmorg789456123 first of all in the battle of thermopylae were not 300 were actually more than 1000 greeks from all over Greece that fought under leonidas command.After the betrayal,Greeks were forced to brake the phalax formation and the battle soon turned to 1v1 this was the turning point when strenght and numbers create the result to a war.Leonidas fell almost first and the Greeks actually pushed away the persian army (over leonida's dead body) 6 times.At the end they were 4 spartans left alive guarding leonida's dead body this is where persians used their archers to finish with no more casualties in the army. extra facts: Xerxes after every attack ordered his men to pick up dead bodies and burry them so the rest of his army woud keep its moralle up. Greeks they actually had body armor but every soldier was completely different due to the fact he had to pay for his own equipment.Some of them were naked like on the movie though. this hair above leonidas helmet was on every single soldier but on the king's helmet was a bit different so you can see from behind who is leading ,also you could see the direction of your fellow soldiers. persian arrows couldnt pierce/penetrate the Greek shields.The arrows were bouncing/richocheting on them. Thermopylae was a battlefield for more than once even on WW2. The actual Primary weapon of Greeks was the shield aka "Hoplon" also in case they would lose every weapon,Greeks were using their martial art called "Pankration" (based on wrestling and killing with bare hands). Greeks had an extra weapond which was actually like a big knife for close combat it was shorter than a sword,bigger than a knife (dont remember its name) Sparta at that era had 2 kings,Leonidas was the second one. Leonidas and Argo (queen's name) were 3rd or 4th cousins the reason they got married was for not to infect the royal blood. on the persian army they were Greek mercenaries/slaves/traitors from macedonia and epirus fighting on persian's army side. the total weight amount of a greek soldier's equipment was about 20 to 30 killos which is about 40-60 pounds i think (all these are aproximately calculated) could tell more but this is already boring right ?
@belegthoron86039 жыл бұрын
ignore me no my friend ,this is not boring at all , at least , not for me ... In Thermopylae , they where 7.000 greeks vs a persian army between 250.000 and 300.000 men ...the greeks had an armour ,but a light armour made of linus ,not bronze like their helmets and shields (hoplon) the Spartans , under the armour , whore a tunic color scarlet , the color of sparta ...at the end of the battle of Thermopylae , only 1000 greeks died (at least) , and 21.000 persians died ...its true that xerxes tried to hide all The dead persians , but he only could burry 1000 corpses...This two films ,with their costumes,characters ,etc , where based on a comic , that was based at the same time by the true story ...(sorry for my english ) cheers !
@pilokxx16099 жыл бұрын
let me inform you that the armor wasnt the same on every soldier due to the fact he had to pay for it.So many had armor of linus but not all of them.

When the Greeks were united together, they were an unstoppable force! Nothing could beat them. They evenutally ruled the world with the help of a young King. And they lost the idea of how unstoppable they were together when they tore apart their empire that stretched from Greece to the far Indus. Their empire was consumed by greedy men of the Diadochi who never could see or look at the bigger picture as to how they achieved power. The morale to the story of the Greeks is that you can either stand united together with people who dont always agree with what you believe. Or you can die fighting for you and your ideas all alone as an individual...
