Interesting fact, Dilios, whose real name was Aristodemus, was 1 of 2 survivors. Aristodemus had an eye infection and Eurytus who was blind. Eurytus turned back and was killed in battle. Because Aristodemus returned to Sparta alone, he was labeled a coward so he spent the rest of the war fighting like a madman in order to regain his honor. A 3rd survivor, Pantites, was sent on an embassy mission but didn’t return in time for the final battle at Thermopylae so he hung himself

I had the experience of seeing this beautiful movie in the theaters the history is a tad off but im glad they followed the graphic novel tho I'm glad you all enjoyed it look up the history it's still impressive. There was always something in place if they didn't survive which the end showed , that battle in real life was truly epic. And a statue of King Leonidas stands in Greece.

Sadly, when Dilios returned to Sparta he was called a coward. This is who Ephialtes, the hunch-back is based on. At the battle of Plataea, regardless of what it shows at the end of this movie, the Greeks are losing. Until a single warrior bearing a crimson cloak charged the Persian lines. It was suicidal and so unexpected that the Persians formations collapsed in on itself, he was killed but it the gave Sparta and the Greeks time to regroup, counter-attack and win.

The Greek Phalanx was the most modern way of warfare at that time. With a warrior at the head and a formation closed behind him, in which each protected his neighbor by overlapping shields, forming a shield wall built like a V. The first line intercepted the first onslaught, supported by the lines behind, and from the second line the enemy was killed with spear thrusts under, over and between the shields of the front men. Sufficiently trained, one could thus keep even overpowering opponents in check for hours, decimate them and then go on the offensive at the most opportune moment. A Spartan warrior was trained to fight for hours and if necessary up to a day without rest. By the way, he final exam for the children consisted of killing a slave at night and armed only with a knife without anyone noticing. Otherwise, the exam was considered failed.

"Molon Labe", ancient Greek for 'Come and get them'. This was King Leonidis' reply when the Persian King demanded the Spartans surrender their weapons. It has become a modern saying in the USA, renouncing the cowardly democRAT liberals who keep trying to eliminate the second amendment right to bear arms. We must retain the freedom to be armed. The elite oligarch class must know fear, they must understand they are not allowed to be tyrants over us. We can't vote their tyranny away, they have shown us that they can and will rig every election. This is victory or death. COME AND GET THEM!
