Team CantoneseClass101.com

I would've liked some indication for literary vocabulary and spoken vocabulary. The original poster pointed out some examples like eat, ear, sleep, etc, that would only appear in writing, not spoken.

Eat is actually "sik" not "hek". Hek is used in another dialect from Taishan and possibly others. (I speak both Taishan and Cantonese). Din Tai (elevator) is actually escalator. The meaning is electric stairs.

We use both the written form and spoken form in Cantonese in Hong Kong, and those are examples of each. For more details, please check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4mZfnpjirxnsKM Team CantoneseClass101.com

What is the number for?
@CantoneseClass1012 жыл бұрын
The numbers behind the romanization are tones. Since the same pronunciation in different tones has different meanings, that's an essential part of Cantonese language. :) To learn more about Cantonese tones, check out our other videos here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp7QnKeKedSGZpYm18s kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXSppn6llJ6MfMU Team CantoneseClass101.com
