{3000rpm} Metroline Enviro 200 MMC Voith ft. Redlines, Gear Confusions & High Speed on Rail Rep

Today we have yet another Voith Enviro 200 MMC being manipulated just like Go-Ahead's SE296, except it is more than visible this time with the bus jerking back and forth all the time... typical for any modern voith gearboxed bus, easily confusable... some people like it some people don't! The "official" redline for these Euro 6 Cummins engines is 2800rpm, but with the aid of downhill momentum there were a couple of occasions where the engine kept revving up until 3000rpm! Prepare for many redlines of course, a few over-revving downshifts here and there and some high speed action as fast as 57mph down the woods of Ruislip!

If the peak power of this engine was 180HP at 2800rpm, I wonder what the output was at 3000rpm

All turbocharged engines have a point in RPM where they produce peak power and torque, any higher then it’s producing less of it. It won’t be producing anything higher than 180hp, and peak power happens at a much lower RPM than redline

They seem to lose torque close to redline. I''ve discovered this when driving the AS-Tronic ones- they accelerate faster up to about 2100rpm- anything after that and it's all noise and no power creeping up to the limiter.

@ChrisRichmond a lot of torque gets lost after a certain rpm. You're right about that. Peak torque usually is around 2100 rpm any higher, then it slowly drops down, but power still goes up or down depending on how much torque gets lost from the engine

@LJ07EBP thats how high the engine managed to rev up to even if the redline is 2800rpm. Stuff like that happens in a lot of petrol cars too, saying if the redline is 9000rpm but can still rev even higher if you push it

It’s only one time 😅😂, there’s no harm redlining an engine as long as it’s not done excessively day in day out. And for engines that when driven normally, rev up to about 1600/1700rpm at the highest on flat land, this shouldn’t do any harm. I can agree though, there might be slight wear in the gearbox if done day in day out. Just remember this, companies will never allow their engines to rev that high if they know it is bad for the engine, they all have their set limits.
