I cannot recall _one_ shot that Kubrick did in any of his movies, of an unmotivated cutaway. However, the director _did_ shift and change the furniture and the obelisk about, as Kubrick did, but only _after_ he became impossibly anal about such appearing and disappearing props, as an intentional trope in other movies, most notably _The Shining._

2001, the only "Odyssey" that Kubrick was involved with, is a complete work of art, no "sequels" are even imaginable. It is entirely the genius of the director, and has been over for a long time. 2010 was a cheap money grab which is laughable beside Kubrick's film.
@fenorcity3 жыл бұрын
have to disagree with you - dont be offended - 2001 is a classic - no question - but it was the frist time a director/ writer put such deep questions on the big screen - the time it came out is so important 1968.......but it had many flaws - the characters were 1 dimensional and as interesting as a bi of wood - was so so soooo slow - and the music was a fantastic choice , but was not written for that film ...... - just like the beatles - they were the first to do what they did in a MSM way - their songs are very primitive today .............. and 2010 was much later - a different era / time - it focused more on the people , had a great story , the sling shot around juipter did a great job of trying to show the velocity ........... it was a great film......... i love 2001 but 2010 is , to me , way way better a movie
@brianmarasca44963 жыл бұрын
@@fenorcity Thanks for replying! I would say that many of the things that you noted as "flaws" were deliberate directatorial choices. For example, the "wooden" characters leading their boring, routine lives made HAL, ironically, the most relatable character. The glacial pace of the film served two purposes: this is not an "action/entertainment" film. The pace was very realistic for the material, and gave the eye plenty of time to drink in the grandeur of space. And Kubrick's selection of music -- the film without Ligeti's "Atmospheres" and "Lux Aeterna," as well as its pace being anything other than that of the "Gayne Ballet Suite," is literally unthinkable. Ultimately, 2001 is a product of, and a monument to, its time. It is so very rare for films to concern truly profound, metaphysical things -- it probably couldn't have been done at any point in history other than the mid-1960s. And that's the thing: 2010 is just a cool sci-fi movie. Characters: check. Character development: check. Lots of dialog: check. But 2001 is NOT a cool sci-fi movie. It's one of the only films ever made at its philosophical depth. The only other one I can think of is Darren Aronofsky's π. The Sixties were deep. Films like these would bore today's audiences to tears. They want action and entertainment, not deep musings about Ultimate Reality. The makers of 2010 could have just made a cool sci-fi movie (and it IS good, for that). But they thought they'd sell more tickets if they tied it to Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece.
@KGBeast.2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree brother, 2001 may be one of my favourite movies of all time if not number 1 Kubrick and Arthur C Clarke's vision is nothing short of extraordinary. But that being said, I also think that the could work sequels if viewed as their own thing. I quite liked 2010 and I think 2061 and 3001 could work as movies but would have to be re-worked (especially 3001 that book is TRASH) But if they are their own thing that can be seen as sequels but mainly their own story then I think it can work. Anyways it's a better idea than what Hollywood is doing these days and who knows we could get something special it doesn't necessarily have to be Kubrick level genius to be good
@KGBeast.2 жыл бұрын
@@fenorcity NONE of what you have said are actual flaws more small details Kubrick put in. 2001 isn't your conventional Hollywood film like other films of that time where (even films of today) that's why it's so damn great
@mr.sinjin-smyth2 жыл бұрын
I fail to see how 2010 was a "cheap money grab", when it's director Peter Hyams was a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick, who even asked for his blessing / permission to make the sequel. Whether Kubrick himself really didn't mind, approved or was disappointed deep down doesn't change the fact he told Hyams to "not hesitate and just go for it." 2010 may seem "cheap" in the eyes of ELITIST 2001 devotees, but it did without a doubt add more lore, and fleshed out the characters and story of the Space Odyssey Saga, while also adding more questions and mystery. It's a great addition and companion to 2001 no matter what, and helps many understand more and appreciate 2001's unconventional, avant garde and audacious nature / experience. I enjoy both movies a lot and see them as EQUALS. Guess that makes me a much more FLEXIBLE person compared to you, eh? ;-)

The ONLY one who could do this movie properly is Christopher Nolan, because he'd use practical effects, and as little CGI as possible. Actually, I'd trust Nolan to do a movie version of all 4 books; yes, including a REMAKE of 2001 that's as close to the BOOK as possible. Kubrick's 2001 is a MASTERPIECE, but there are several differences from the book (namely, Saturn, instead of Jupiter) that basically SCREAM for Nolan to do it. 2010 the movie is actually pretty close to the book (with only a couple differences), but a Nolan remake would be pretty cool, too. Nolan doing 2061 and 3001 would be AWESOME.

The celestiality of outer space is not defined by TIME.
A well done possible trailer as it conveys the final instalment well with simple appropiate imagery.The MONOLITH in a museum of human history showing statues of conquerers and paintings of war with a television mainly focusing upon more modern atomic explosions.With the tension building music from the first film setting a forbodding backdrop and the MONOLITHS leaving as if they have seen enough really accurately suggesting something bad and final is about to happen.I remember reading the last book (I think) wondering how brilliant CLARK was to keep many of us wondering for years the nature of the MONOLITHS and the MAN AGAINST MACHINE (Or AI) main theme although always evident with HAL in the first book but not so clear with the MONOLITHS.His suggestion some form of super Alien AI manipulating man from early in our evolution as an experiment,then Europa until deciding to end the experiment(us) was well done and kept us guessing for years.The mystical human spirit (Space baby)is still an unanswered question for me as well as others found within this saga that I wouldn't doubt he has recorded an outline that will be continued by someone.I know even Einstein and scientist before him as well as sci-fi writers,now and then,are seriously concerned humans are in dire danger of AI really being our extinction and it possibly being too late even now to stop the inevitable.I hope they keep those computer viruses and bugs ready in case we soon need them!!

@@UFO_PILOT To which book are you referring? Ok, this might sound strange, or maybe it's a #MandelaEffect thing, but I _remember_ seeing a trailer for *_'3001: The Final Odyssey'_* at some point during my childhood (I was born in 1978)! In fact, it was through discussing said trailer with my parents, that I was introduced to the Odyssey series of books (with _'3001: The Final Odyssey'_ ending up my favourite of the four novels)! It was then later, during my early teens that I first saw *_'2010: The Year We Make Contact',_* which in turn led me to eventually watch the original *_'2001: A Space Odyssey'_* (which, btw, I don't enjoy nearly as much as _2010,_ probably because I saw that film first)!

Mandela Effect for sure. Unless fanmade trailers were around in the 90s/2000s you must've seen it then because if it was in your childhood like you said, that must've been around the 80s? And the 3001 final Odyssey is from 1997 so either it was a fanmade trailer in the 80s (if they were a thing back then) or Mandela effect. Or my favourite option you are actually from a parallel universe where this movie existed in the 80s and were transported to this universe where it doesn't exist. (I'm joking people please don't go into a religious debate in the comments)

This is perfect and now I want 2061 and 3001 to be turned into movies. Sure, they may need some elements from the books changed, which in the case of 3001 the story would greatly benefit from this as the novel was not the best conclusion some elements may work keep the overall story beats like integrate Poole in the story still. I would love to see him return and adjust to the future life that would be interesting. But I feel that this concept trailer really nails the feel of what the 3001 film should be. Yes doing sequels to humbly speaking the greatest science fiction film of all time would seem like a risk to many, I say it's worth the risk and for all you know we could get something special out of it. This fanmade trailer already feels like its onto something, I'd be down for this story to continue and reach its proper conclusion in 3001

An experiment by Aliens using super multi- dimensional computers put at intervals(The Monoliths) to manipulate other species encountered by gifting them with tech and\or creating conditions for them to evolve.There is also a sub theme suggesting some GOD like force that remains a mystery but has a protective objective for humans that seems highly spiritual and is in opposition to the MONOLITH technology.Through the series it's a clever mix of imagery with the MONOLITHS finally ending the experiment as it's a failiure or deemed a danger to them,which means ending us.Humans realizing the nature and intentions of the A.I the MONOLITHS represent use futuristic computer viruses to infect the MONOLITHS that seem defeated in the end but the Spiritual mystery is left largely for the reader to self interpret.Its conceivable whomever created the MONOLITHS were destroyed by there own creation and it echos a long,long speculation between scientist and sci-writers that A.I is evolving so quick that soon,as little as 15 yrs from now,we will be at its mercy.

@@HardKore5250 Two have been.The original 2001A SPACE ODDESSEY IN 1969 BY Stanley Kubrick with writter ARTHER C CLARK at his side started the series and became an instant classic for all time,it was based on a 2 page story by CLARK called "THE SENTINEL" which was about a dark rectangular block(A MONOLITH) being found on the moon.Nobody knows what it is or how it got there but it certainly was not made or put there by man.That was basically all it was about,but some years after when KUBRICK wanted to make a sci-fi film he read it got CLARK to help expand and filmed 2001that became a 4 Book series written over the next 30+ years. Most people except CLARKES fans were unaware of this mini story and that the first book was really written after the screenplay,making it rather confusing at the end as the imagery shown in the movies conclusion is a kalidascope collage of scenes involving an astronaut at different ages ending with what was dubbed by fans as the SPACE SEED or BABY which was a fetus like image inside an orb in space somewhere near JUPITOR.The music your hearing from the psedo-trailor is taken from this part.It was a highly artistic ending that people discussed the possible meaning of to this day so ya can understand the difficulty of articulating it. But ironically 2001 begins far in the past with the dawn of man who are much more ape like in appearance and action.They use no tools,no language,and are in conflict with another group of apes over a water hole.They are competing for what limited resources available to them and at the mercy of prehistoric predators and their environment.Living in a crevice in the ground huddled together for comfort they are very believable in the movie as our early ancestors with makeup and ape like actions that hold up on film realistically to this day.Every day is a struggle for survival and another conflict with the competing group at the water hole that always is just a bunch of hooting and bluff attacks by individuals that never amount to any real harm.All this takes up the first half hour of the movie and you begin to wonder how these supposive early ancestors managed to survive to evolve at all becouse even modern day Apes seem smarter and more adapt. That's when one morning outside near their water hole stands a MONOLITH.The group to first see it surround it and are unsure and frightened by it until finally they touch it.You can see in the film they become calm and seem totally focused upon it,and you know it's communicating something to them although it's not clear how or what.Later on at the water hole the usual chaotic meeting between groups takes place but this time one of the Apes from the group that encountered the MONOLITH picks

@@HardKore5250 (Continued explanation.I accidentally sent before I finished!!) As I was saying one of the Apes that had touched the MONOLITH picks up a large bone of some prehistoric beast that litter the ground around the watering hole and clubs one of the rival Apes in the head until it's dead.The other clan are frightened off and the benefits of the waterhole now belong undisputedly to the killer apes group.There is then a quick collage of scenes of him hitting the ground with the bone,each time we see some animal fall dead to the ground conveying to the viewer that the ability and knowledge to use a simple tool(Obviously taught by contact with the MONOLITH) to kill competition and threats has given early man the means to master his world and possibly save the whole race from extinction.To end this part he throws the bone in the air which suddenly becomes a space vessel thus creatively taking the story hundreds of thousands of years into the future. The ship is bringing an astronaut to a wheel like space station that rotates(Artificial gravity)and then to the moon and from there off towards JUPITER.Through briefings we learn that telescopes have detected another MONOLITH in orbit around JUPITER.They are aware of one on Earth dug up in AFRICA(The Apes MONOLITH) one on the moon(The one from the SENTINEL short story )and now the new discovery strongly suggesting they are place at intervals for some reasons.They have studied the one on Earth and Moon extensively.They all are the same size and dimensions.Dark Shiney and black made of an unknown material that cannot be chipped or even a scratched by their best drilles or saws.Now they are preparing a crew to go to JUPITER to study the newest find.So the main body of the story chronicle that trip made by a 3 man crew and a Computer called HAL that can control the automated ship.HAL has a distinctive emotionless voice and is represented just as a red camera lens as it speaks.Many fans have pointed out that the name HAL if you go one letter forward in the alphabet,eg: H becomes I\ A becomes B\L becomes M you get IBM,the acronym name of one of the first computers, International Business Machines. So for some unknown reason HAL begins to kill off the crew during the trip until the last surviving astronaut disables the melevalent A.I as the ship approaches the MONOLITH near JUPITOR.Thats when the mystical ending takes place leaving the fate of the final astronaut debatable as he appears to evolve into something else. Director STANELY KUBRICK throughout the film uses some of the most popular classical music ever written to great effect.Most notably is the main theme which is one of the best,most recognized classical pieces ever written I believe is called THUS SPOKE SPARARITUS roughly as I'm unsure of the spelling,butyou will know it when ya hear it for it has been reused many times when a Director wants to convey a sense of wonder,there's no tune that works better. That's all the time I have to tell ya about how this masterpiece got started and I'm sure all the series will be filmed someday soon.The delay is becouse of the richness of the works themselves.Not many Directors out there have the talent of KUBRICK who's films have critics calling him one of the best ever and the quality demanded by these story's requires lots of money to make them.I think if you take the time to watch the first work 2001,you will better understand my analysis and become a big fan yourself!!

It's unclear if Syfy, MGM, and Warner Brothers will have to team up to make the mini-series happen.
There's only one person who could direct it; Steven Speilberg.

Spielberg, but if not Denis Villeneuve.

The music is "Lux Aeterna" by 20th Century Hungarian composer Gyorgy Ligeti. Kubrick used it as part of the soundtrack for the first film -- with one exception, it underpins every scene in which the monolith appears.
@rwboa223 жыл бұрын
@@OreadNYC it's actually the "Kyrie". Lux Aeterna is the part of Ligeti's Requiem that is played in the "Moon Bus" scene in "2001" and in the Prologue of "2010" (which is the summary of the failed U.S.S. Discovery One mission, bookended with "My God! It's full of stars!").

I liked the opening concept, as far-fetched as it was. But then... nothing really happened. Clarke just used a revived Frank Poole as a self-insert character to showcase some of his notions about the future. But Poole acts and reacts basically the same as Haywood Floyd did when _he_ was the self-insert character in the previous 2 books. The dialog is pretty much all just friendly chit-chat. There's very little verbal conflict... let alone _actual_ conflict. Clarke retcons Star-Child Dave and Star-Child HAL from a state of evolved consciousness into programs inside the monolith... and completely forgets about Star-Child Haywood Floyd, from the previous lackluster entry. Also he brings up the IRL circumstances of the end of the USSR even though it completely contradicts the events of 2010. And then there's the pretentious factor. The notion that the makers of the monoliths are _definitely_ gonna want to come and wipe us out because the snapshot of us that they got was from the evil, evil dark ages that we call Current Year. The practice of self-flagellating on behalf of the human race via science fiction has gone far beyond tedious.

One must remember that 2001 author was Stanley. He was the main concept writer. Artie wrote it was the movie was being made.
