Penn 14/0 spool Destroyed when left long under tight spooled ASMR Monofilament week of shark tourney

Hey Team hardlife, how would you recommend spooling a 14/0 penn senator? I'm buying one soon and dont wanna mess up. I plan on using it all year long as florida has monstar hammers, bull sharks, tigers or something else toothy over 10ft year long worth yakin a bait out for. Thank you for your input.

I would go with Hollow core braid 130lb 150lb minimum and to ensure your reel spool doesn't warp. It will also help to keep your costs down in the long run cause you can splice your line if you find frays and or break off and find it again or to maintain you spool ..

Dacron is splicable but doesn't have the same thickness they are thicker than the spectra braids

people dont realize back in the day those reels were built for dacron. now they hve braid. no need for momno. unless for a top shot for stress. but if you check out the old sites back in the 70s no one used mono for stretch. all dacron.

@@TeamHardLife I'd use brake away weights I got my 14/0 spooled with 200yds of 200lb power pro braid backing and topped off with 130lb mono I spooled it by hand It took forever lol

I was waiting to see the results. Of this reel I had the same thing done to a Shimano reel I had. I gave it to my uncle he replaced the line now it works great. Take care and God bless.

hey man, I had to cut off the line several times in my early days, more from bad birdnests/backlashes, on spinners mostly but conventionals too... stuff like tryin to set the hook after a mate loosened up the drag, etc... I also did it cause as a greenbie it was easier to me than unspool the line by hand when puttin' new line on, now of course I know better ways and never backlash that bad but lots of skills you don't even think about can be really important as a beginner...

On senators probably the easiest way to deal with that issue is to get a 5 gallon bucket, a drill with a spool arbored to a bit, and a screwdriver. Pop the clicker side off (no loose pieces other than screws) and then just wind it off like normal on the drill. Hope that helps in the future.

They were spooled with what looked like some 50lbs mono but it was a little crunchy and it was slow peeling it by hand (wish I had your setup) and now they’re backed with 50 Dacron going to 50 topshot. Your videos are great and helped me figure out how to rig my new to me rods.

@@TeamHardLife fully machined aluminum body, stainless steel gears, it's from a lil german company which sells catfish supplys, it's a minimal changed branded reel, I had a different reel from them which they actually created their own but had troubles with it (it's very unusual, i know many who have it no prob) and lost trust in the reel, they were so nioce to send me the other reel as a replacement(same price on both) since I couldn't get my mony back. the reel is intended for and tested on catfish up to 9 feet (about 300lb) but I'm gonna use more drag than most will ever fish on a cat so we'll see, still even when it doesn't go well at super heavy drag, a reel with only 465g and 40lb of drag would be a gamechanger for many fishing styles where you don't need a ton of line, especially from a boat you can only fish that heavy drag if the rod is up to it so for medium rods it'd be great

@@maxschmidt9461 I'd be skeptical of their drag output numbers. Tsunami claims their SaltX 4000 puts out 50lb of drag. Which we know definitely isn't happening... atleast not more then once lol. I've got twindrag reels in the 20oz range that put out 30lb of drag locked down but 45lb is a little crazy for a 1lb reel atleast to be smooth or even remotely fishable at that level.
