The most common starter issue with a 300tdi is a loose fitting wire on the fuel solenoid. Keep up the videos!

I had air in my fuel system, I found a common fault with the fuel water trap filter on the right hand side of the rear quarter panel. The seals perish. Easy fix. Just disconnect the fuel lines, and connected together without using the filter. Providing that you have a good filter under the bonnet, b4 the fuel pump. My filter under the bonnet has a water drainage, plastic screw cap. Just remember to drain the filter every few months, if driving in wet conditions. Hope this is helpful, Paul.

I had a 300tdi Disco auto - late model with the fly by wire throttle - was a pig to start when cold - 0 degrees. Never did fully sort it. Have a 200tdi Disco now. On the button.

Thank you! I would have never figured this out! Damn starter solenoid wire! The first rule with any defender should be: check to make sure everything is still plugged or attached! Ha.

I did have a different problem. No lights, everything dead. Batterie connected and 12V. After a couple of hours or the next day everything normal again and the engine did start. This has happened from time to time. Never found the problem but switching the batterie with someone did cure it.

That's a strange one. Thanks for the comment!

I have an issue where the car starts fine every single time when cold, but sometimes when the engine is particularly hot - hot day on the freeway - the starter won’t fire at all. Have to wait 30-40 minutes for it to cool down when it will then fire again just fine. I’m replacing the starter as I’m guessing it’s a heat soak issue being right next to the turbo and maybe age related. Cheers

I've had something similar. Only lasted about a month. I suspect the immobiliser spider in the seatbox. Sometimes it would buzz. But it's been fine now for 2 years. There is a bypass you can fit www.lrworkshop.com/parts/AMR4956. As you say the heat from the turbo could be a factor. There should be a heat shield bolted to the underside of the inlet manifold. Lots are missing. Mine broke off and I never replaced it www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-rover-defender-engine/300tdi/manifolds_53189#15

Mine, you can turn on the ignition switch and dashboard lights on but without engine sound what could be the problem, thanks
@lrworkshop3 жыл бұрын
possibly the starter relay, behind the fuse box cover
@imthatguy65583 жыл бұрын
hello ! mine starts but as soon as it starts the engine stops .Do you know what the problem could be? Thank you
@lrworkshop3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it could be a fuel problem, like an air lock in the fuel filter
@jasonbridgeman16773 жыл бұрын
Hi, my starting problem is that when the weather' cold, it takes a few tries to get the engine to turn or it just won't start at all. Once it's started the, theirs no problem starting the engine the rest of the day. There are never problems in the summer
@lrworkshop3 жыл бұрын
If slow to turn, then it's the battery. Get at least 1000cca for the best results. Otherwise it might be glow plugs - get Beru they are OEM. Not cheap, but good. If it turns fine but won't fire then maybe an air leak in the system that drains overnight
@jasonbridgeman16773 жыл бұрын
@@lrworkshop thank you very much! I'll give them a go 👌

could be poor compression?

I have the same problem, as soon as there is frost, I can forget it. I’ve had both the alternator and battery replaced but only worked for a week before the slow crank of death returns…
