Would you have to take it steady for a while after a timing belt change or just drive it normal…

Hi, if you do it yourself, I'd give it a mile or two keeping an ear out just in case. Otherwise, just get your foot down and enjoy. The belt tensioner is sprung so no need to adjust in the future. Just fit the updated pulleys. Thanks and enjoy.

How come you didn’t replace the seals?

Hi I'd always suggest you replace them, I'd done them previously so didn't need to do them. Thanks.

Hi, had my 300tdi timing belt replaced by a mechanic. now its blowing grey smoke. does it mean the pump is not properly timed? cheers

Hi know that's a conundrum, grey smoke can have started black or white which leads to two different issues. I wonder if you think its running differently to usual, you'd be hearing a different note, rough and change in power. Just check there are nit leaks, oil on the floor etc. Thanks.

@@woodybushproductions2359 it started when the timing belt was replaced but the mechanic did not know that the crankshaft pulley doesn't have the collar to prevent the belt moving forward and it failed bending some push rods. I wonder if it damaged the internals eg pistons, rings. Now its running with the grey smoke coming out. He said compression test is all good. could be a miss timed pump?thanks?

@@disco1lr490 Hi I'm wonder what work was done on head after the cambelt failure. with the valves having been bent it could have damaged the stems or even cracked the head depending on its condition before. After the cambelt went I would remove the head, check all valve stems or replace, replace or check all valves, check the rocker shaft and arms and replace if in any doubt then get it skimmed, pressure tested and valve seals checked. Alternatively get hold of another head and start rebuilding. Sorry I know its a lot but it's the best way to avoid any further problems. Thanks.

Did you pin the fly wheel ?
@woodybushproductions2359 Жыл бұрын
Hi locking the fly wheel is always advised, I put the fly wheel into position and then put a mark on the dog bolt pulley and belt housing to avoid always going under the vehicle. Thanks.
