Lol. I did it in my 2004 Jetta Tdi. But have also seen it turn to quagmire where big diesel trucks on 35’s are burrowing through in 4x4 with the hammer down, rolling coal.

I've done that route dozens of times when I lived in Alberta. The biggest issue I found with campers/trailers on that route, is the amount of fine dust that gets sucked into your unit. You need an air tight unit or you need to seal vents and the HVAC.

@@BionicOutdoorsMan It depends were you are exactly along that stretch of the FTR. There are many different boundary districts and common names for those areas. You could be in Big Horn or close to Banff National Park or Kanaskis. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_Highway_734

It's good hunting, and fishing. Lots of wildlife and predators. Alot more predators making a comeback since the 90s. Makes sense, as pretty much every predator was hunted with extreme prejudice since the late 1800s to the early 1980s by trappers, ranchers, farmers, and homesteaders.
@89fingerslouieXRP
@89fingerslouieXRP 2 ай бұрын
@@PondstompingAdventures It should also be noted that hunting and fishing pays for all of the parks and rec areas in Canada and as a land owner with livestock I have seen slight increases in predators over the last 20 years. These numbers go up and down cyclically like the temp of the earth.
@PondstompingAdventures
@PondstompingAdventures 2 ай бұрын
@89fingerslouieXRP yes, very true. Cycles are becoming more stable. Before the 90s, you would be hard pressed to find or see many big predators. They play a vital role, even when unfortunately they target livestock on occasion. Herded cattle for 2.5 years back in my 20s. Good humble work, small jingle in the pants for the weekend, back when things were cheap. Some landowners land I've hunted on specifically said not shoot the wolves as they keep the cougars and bears out of their area. Some have found that they only lose a calf or cow if it was injured or sick. More often, they are more inclined to prey on the deer in the area, then move on. Every landowner situation and area is unique, and their wishes should be respected. I've personally never had an issue with wolves, been within 20 yards of them, no issue. Even a group of 7 just looked and left. The alpha followed beside about 50 yards away. As soon as I was 200 yards from where I spotted them, he or she left to join the others. Beautiful, but must be respected. Cougars, on the other hand, make me edgy. I can't really trust them much. As humans are just 2 legged, slow-moving deer to them. I'll observe them with care and from a great distance if I come across one.

Been up and down every road and goat trail from Red Deer to The park. Worked in Nordegg on the rigs for years and wifes family fished every creek west of Rocky. You should call Pather River Adventures and book yourself a spot in their campsite. Book a ride up to Top camp on horseback -you won't regret it. Take a tour 8km west of Sundre, head south 55km to the T , turn left and follow to the blue bridge. Left across the bridge and right onto the Panther Main road. At km6 is panther River Adventures. You can keep going on the Panther River Main to KM 25 which is pretty much the Banff National park boundary...Oh yeah, take your gold pan and hot every creek you see !

As someone who grew up in Caroline it's funny hearing the trunk road described as remote lol. I know this area like the back of my hand, awesome seeing someone get excited about it. 17:47 on a grade 6 school trip we randomly decided to climb that peak in the background and at the top there should still be a note which we cleverly wrote "Caroline Mountain". I remember we were all wearing skateboarding shoes and it was not easy lmao

It's a nice road, not as bad as many years ago. Been up and down it, even weekly sometimes, for the last 40 plus years. Corkscrew mountain, can make your ass pucker up and want to cling to the side of the mountain at times. Not a good road for 2 vehicles to be passing each other in some places. One mistake and kiss your ass goodbye.
