i've skated since the late 90s and this is the first time ive ever heard Tom Penny speak hahahahaha..a tom penny sighting was like spotting a unicorn back in those days lol

fr when I started skating back in oh... '98 or '99 I was like a fiend for Penny footage cause I'd see all his decks, wheels and shit in CCS were always top sellers even though he was pretty much inactive at the time, well on film anyway

Yeah it's crazy how little people hear him speak yet he sounds really smart and insightful. I could understand not talking much if u don't got much to say but with Penny it seems like he's got boatloads of knowledge up his sleeve. Would love to hear more from him.

You can hear the quality of his character in his voice, a very nice person so they say. If you listen carefully and observe, he sounds like an old thespian stage actor who has been there and done that, able to come in and nail the scene in one go.

My favorite all time skateboarder, cleanest skating style ever imo. I have seen him skate a few times back in the late 90s at demos around southern cali and once at a competition, he was not in the competition though, but, at that competition he didn't bring a skateboard and had loafer shoes on ( like docker dress shoes ) higher than a kite too, well anyways, he borrowed clyde singletons board and was doing his HUGE signature tricks on this massive wise mans ramp fatter and cleaner than anyone was doing during the whole competition and he was in dress shoes using someones board lol.. Talked to him that day too and back then he had the deepest voice I ever heard before still til this day that I can remember, I could not understand really anything he was saying either. But he was certainly high as heck.

I did actually get to meet Tom Penny once at Huntington Surf Shop in Huntington BEach, CA. I can't even explain how much I love this guy's skateboarding style. So, standing there, with him, I was blown away. The amount of times I have watched his skate videos and rewound them to watch again and again is uncountable. Just watching this guy's skate parts and this interview helps me to really appreciate life. Tom Penny is worth more than a thousand words. I never skated with him in person, but to have skated with him at the old HB park would have been like climbing Mt. Everest for some people- it would have been that surreal to me. MUCH RESPECT TO TOM PENNY!

I remember the first time I saw his picture in a TWS mag, it came with a little description saying "Tom Penny,...you will hear a lot more about this guy in the years to come." or something close to that. The picture was a massive switch ollie over a wood construction barrier. Well after all these years the description couldn't be more right. Tom's influence and contribution on street skateboarding is something to remember.

skating has changed in different way's then we think..I'm 25yrs old and i still rock the penny/smolik/gershon look..they were my favorites..and still are among the 100s of pros that have dominated, I now go to the skate park (and i suck pretty bad) do my little kickflips and nolies and pop shuvs nose slide the box bomb almost waist high ollies on the pyrimids and the 13yr olds even if there 10 times better than me shit 100 times they stop what there doing and watch and give me props for landing just anything. my clothes are 3 times the size of there's and they like the style..ask about my shoes and how long i have enjoyed the sport. i stand out now and its cool. guys my age then and now talk shit if you cant flip into a grind down a set..and your not worth talking to..it sucks. everyone i grew up with quit skating yrs ago and im trying to teach my kids how to ride arround and just have a good time tricks come l8tr on when your ready..live free and skate...for FUN..not the $...peace..

Had opportunity to skate with him in uk in 90s from 91 onwards. I remember thinking if him and rowley got to America, they could take over, and they did. The thing with uk in 90s, if u managed to skate to a high level there, then you were definitely a good skater. Even the better spots could be crusty as hell. It would make you a better skater.
