As a Corvette lover who cannot afford one, this is enough to make me cry! One model that is not there is a 1968 ZL-1, as there were only two made, one was crashed and the other shows up at Corvette only shows regularly.

I remember VH1 giving these cars away. The winner of the contest won all 36 then sold them to an artist. A dirty shame seeing these cars rotting like this. Hopefully, he's sold them like he once planned.

A lot of people have been asking this question about the air in the tires. Just because the cars have been there for many years, does not mean the air leaks out. In some of the pictures, you can see cars with no air left in the tires, and some that are partially and mostly full. All the cars vary in how much air there is because some were driven more and have worn out beads, while others are very low miled cars and the beads on the rims are still in perfect shape to hold air. Just because a car has sat for a long time, does not guarantee there will be no air left in the tires.

Any tire from 1985 or earlier will NOT be safe to drive at highway speeds, and would ONLY be a curiosity at a club meet or auction.

every engine maybe transmissions would need a full rebuild all seals would be dry and cracked also corrosion i n the cylinders from condensation working its way in from the exhaust.....long storage is worse than going for a blast once a month....

I believe these are the cars that VH1 gave as a complete collection to a lucky viewer in the early to mid eighties. I had recorded the entire lineup on vhs, then my ex wife recorded some Jane Fonda work out over it. I was furious! The 53 Vette came original with a Blue Flame straight six cylinder engine. Yes, it's very rare too. Thumbs up for sharing this.

I remember them from the VH1 contest where they gave the whole collection to one lucky winner in the early eighties. The helicopter panned over the whole bunch, and I recorded it on VHS. I think they played a Beach Boys song during that clip. Dear ex wife recorded a workout program over it. I wonder what happened to the person that won them?

Artist Peter Max won this Corvette Collection back in 1989 when VH1 gave them away in a contest. They were stored in this Brooklyn Garage all this time. Max had plans to do some wild Art Deco Paint Jobs on some of them as you will see different color swatches on certain Cars. Cars were finally sold at auction in 2014

John Johansen probably wasn't forgotten. More likely the collection was hidden. Those cars are an investment like anything else. You gotta wait for the real value to present itself. When you have stuff like that you start getting "family" and "friends" coming out of the woodwork asking for shit.

This stuff happens when some old guy passes away who doesn't have an heir. my dad had a friend, this old guy had a barn full of old NASCAR cars from the 60's and 70's, when there were tracks in Maryland and quite a few police Harleys from the 40s and 50s. After he passed we never heard what happened to all his stuff.

Back in the day, my love of cars, such as it was, was divided between the Chevrolet Corvettes, and the various marques of the Jensen Interceptor...Any Brit of my age would understand...but I also loved the guy living near me who restored over a period of years, from total disintegration, every part removed, a fifties Austin Healey Sprite...and then sadly wrote it off only a few weeks later

1963 split window coupe 327 fuel injected 4 spd model is one of the greats. The 427 tri - power convertible is one of the all time Uber models! The rest are nice but these two models for me are the ones I would go to war for!!

I noticed something curious on a few of the cars. There is what seems to be tape, or paper along the door handles and fender arches. I understand you might want to protect the edges from scuffs, but it isn't on all the cars, nor in any uniform fashion. Also the covering is in different colors. Weird. Any clues people? Thanks.

As I understand it, some guy won these in some type of contest/givaway. One of every year up to the time of the contect. He wanted to keep them all but the expense was too much (shipping them home, storing/displaying/etc) so I think he sold a few individuals, but whatever happened the whole (or remaining) collection was sold to Peter Max, the artist. Max had plans to paint them in his psychedelic style and display them, but the project fell through, so they sat ... and sat ... and sat. I think the VW at 0:33 was painted by him. Finally they changed hands or for some other reason were to go on the market. I wish I knew their final outcome. Hey, if I had won them I'd sell the wife and kids to keep the collection intact and operational!
