I saw Lyle and his large band in Lancaster, PA, this past summer. I almost didn't go because no one could go with me. But at the last minute--I mean, --3:30-- in the afternoon and the concert started at --7:30---- I bought a ticket and went. Best decision ever!! The large band is bursting with talent, mostly from names not familiar to us. And Lyle is one of the most humble and gracious performers ever. He is so happy to step aside and show appreciation to the band, allow them to show off their talent, and give the audience a chance to know them better.

Victor and Allison are from my home town. The last time I saw Victor was in 1992. We were leaving the "shed" as he was arriving. The shed was a heated, concrete floored barn, or out building at a local musicians farm. Just about everybody in town jammed or practiced there. That day was the last time I played with any drummer except Terry Hawkins, who a few days later started a 23 year stint with me on bass. Yes, Victor is an amazing bass player.

So pleased I found your channel. I've been a bassist since Jr. High. The more I watch, the more I look back, the more I know I've been listening to you pretty much my whole life that is now 51 years long and playing many lines in horn bands, wedding and show cover bands. Please accept my humble appreciation for the inspiration over the years as I've been a huge fan of many artists you've played with and I've so borrowed spacious and breathable playing concepts as an approach. Now I know where to send my thanks. *bow to you kind sir.
@danabrewer36764 жыл бұрын
@BrantheBroken I second this to the enth power. A few points. If you're a person of a certain age, there was only radio and in order to hear bass sometimes best, take it to the car. If, as I did at one time lacked a tuner, honk the horn. Mine was an F in my Mercury. I have a great story about taking a Greyhound from South Dakota to Indiana after a road break with another bassist. At some point in the middle of the night and can't sleep, I take out my bass to fiddle. A couple of people want me to play them something. I try something, something else but it's inaudible because ...it's a bus. The frequency of an unplugged bass. They say "you pick something". I say, "do you know the theme to Mahogany?" I was 21 but knew this line and loved it for it's spacious beauty. The other night watching the 25,000 tracks video I learned who played on that recording. Took me right back to the bus somewhere in the middle of a road break and one of the happiest times of my life as bass often does.

i was talking with my good friend “Alabama Ricky” on the phone last week. He’s been holed up on his farm from the start of this virus and we discussing a neighbor of mine who just is not taking the pandemic too seriously. I was lamenting that the guy is educated but just doesn’t seem to get the severity his actions could inflict on others. Ricky paused for a second and then said, “I’ve met some smart people in life, and I’ve met some with common sense, but I’ve seldom met someone that was both smart and had common sense”. I thought that was wonderful. Ricky has barely a six grade education and a whole lot of smarts. Leland, I recommend he meet you if he wants to see both! Keep going strong.
