Jose, you are an excellent spouse. Sometimes when the people we love are following a passion they tend to forget to take care of themselves and it’s such a joy to see how much you love Max and how much you care for him.

If you are looking for kitchenless ideas, consider backyard meals. Maybe you could film something that doesn't need cooking like a sandwich or salad. Do a picnic (at least the setting) or grill something. Also, I agree with Jose about the filming and resting. Don't overwork. We would rather have quality over quantity. Part of that quality is Max's passion and heart. Good writing is worth waiting for. The nice thing about this format is that you don't have to have a certain time. The story can take as long as it takes to tell it which means you can relax and tell the whole long story or you don't have to use filler when the story is short and sweet. Thank you, Jose, for all the support and work you do.

@@KetchupwithMaxandJose The history of picnics reminds me of charcoal, which was invented by the Ford company to make money on some scrap material from making their cars, if I remember correctly. They popularized the concept of the picnic to sell charcoal and connect it to the idea of using a car to travel to a picnic spot. I'm sure there has to be a recipe associated with that somewhere that you could use! Oh, I bet this could be a good time to do that Kellogg's episode I remember you mentioning a while back too!

@@midoriya-shonen Charcoal itself is older than that (I saw a documentary on medieval people making charcoal by burning wood overnight). But the bag of Briquettes sold in the travel grill to use them in ... while using your new automobile to travel, that was Ford's invention: the boxed set and the road trip.

@@Lana._I_am_me I knew I was forgetting a detail somewhere. But still, it feels like the kind of moment in history that would be good for Max to cover. I mean, a (modern) origin story like that has to have a promotional recipe in there somewhere, right?

1) My condolences on the loss of Jamie. He was a fine cat. 2) Of *course* people recognize you, José. I remember when you were still camera-shy and we only caught the occasional, almost accidental, glimpse of you. I'm very glad you're past that now, and I'm sure the other viewers are, as well. 3) Pity your yard is so small, Max -- otherwise, while your kitchen is chaos central, you could try pulling a Townsend and recreating pioneer recipes the old-fashioned way, over an open fire. 4) On behalf of those of us whose hearing isn't what it was, or never was, thank you for the subtitles, José. I wish all KZbinrs had the courtesy of providing captions, or at least turn on the auto-caption function. Welcome back, Ketchup!

Jose is the voice who says "stop and think about you for a minute" Which is good as it means you don't over do things and you have some time to relax and recover. When ever I've watched you your energy and enthusiasm for the topic in question really shines through which is what makes you so watchable. You haven't lost the enjoyment for what you're doing which can happen if you don't balance out filming and you time. Really hope the kitchen reno goes to plan and I like that you're already expecting a little over shot on the schedual which means if it does go to time you'll be pleasently surprised rather then dissperointed in the delays. By the way the cat is so cute.

She found her sleeping in her garden so she started to leave out food and made sure she had water. Slowly but surley she got close enough for mum to grab and take to the vets. other then being under weight she was healthy. So mum put her back in the garden and carried on feeding her out there that was until she found her in the house one afternoon as she'd left the back door open. She reminds my mum of a cat we had when i was younger a walking ball of fluff. Mum called the new one Luca (pronounced luke with an a).

In case you didn't know: The NY Public Library is transcribing historical restaurant menus, dish by dish, so that they can be searched by what people were eating back in the day. I think it was several months ago that I watched a fellow research the origins of a particular regional recipe by studying the various restaurants' menu dates. I found it fascinating.

Jose, hooray for all those tomatoes! As an 88-year old veteran gardener, I advise, please get a Sungold plant. Small, very tangy, orange, sweet. Well worth seeking out. Do you have a bee house? It attracts the humble native bees who do the work of pollenizing everything. This raises the yields from everything that blooms, which is everything!

Jose thank you for your hard work with the subtitles! They are appreciated. Also thank you for reminding Max to take time for himself. Max take as much time as you need and also some that you want. I would rather the creators I follow have a good work life balance and take time to make sure their mental health does not suffer than getting multiple videos a week. Although I also understand the need to make a living. So listen to Jose and find a good balance that works for you both. I love hearing and seeing updates about your cats. I have an orange feral cat who decided I was his momma, so much so that he taught our dogs to like him so he could come up to the house. I'm allergic to cats but also love them and have huge soft heart so we semi adopted him, got him fixed, feed him a little, made sure he had a warm dry place to sleep or shelter during the super cold winter. I Well he's decided i need more cats so he's brought 4 more. Yep four. He shared the small amount of food I put out for him. He taught all of them how to make the dogs their friends. I tried to scare them off, I really don't need more cats, but to no avail. One of them has totally bought into this, he thinks I'm his best friend. He follows me around. By this I mean he figures out which room I'm in and sits under that window and talks to me, keeps me company while I'm doing things. The other three are still cautious. But I'm trying my best to get then all to trust me enough to also get them fixed and hopefully find homes for them. If not i might have to set up my own KZbin channel so I can afford to feed and care for them. I would also love hearing about your garden and the things you are growing. I'm always a little jealous of those of you living in warmer climates.

I agree with with Jose, your face is a huge part of your brand and if I saw a food history cookbook without your face on the cover I might skip over it but when I see Max I know it’s going to be a good book. I’m curious about institutional food, the history of food in hospitals and schools. I think that’s why the Ellis island episode is one of the best. And food from automats! They’re fascinating but I’m too young to have ever been to one. Kendra Gaylord posted a great video essay on her KZbin channel about automats, diners and cheap food. Thanks for all of your efforts and for modeling preventative mental health care!

The Orient Express video... Being Belgian I was amazed by the Belgian connection. Leopold 2 was a monster. He also saw little Belgium as something that could punch above its weight. Ugh, blasted be those colonial times.

What a sweet little update. Thanks, Jose, for taking the time to settle Max down for a simple little "show and tell" about the new kitties, book stuff and gardening update. I didn't see this until today (Sat., May 11th) even though I have my bell notifications set to "all." No biggie. My mom was an avid gardener as was her mother before her. Unfortunately I got a brown thumb meaning I will kill an air plant. (True story.) I love Max and his history/food combination. I can truly appreciate his research. I'm selfish and would love to watch Max everyday, but once a week or even every other week is great. Bon voyage, Max. Good luck, Jose on all of your projects. Sending virtual treats for your kittah babies. 💚😻

I've been following Tasting history since 2020 and have watched every episode, for three reasons: the combination of food and history; Max' enunciation and use of the English language (great vocabulary) AND the excellent subtitles. I have a mild, age-related hearing loss so it's such a relief to have these subitles. A good sign of quality and consideration. Many thanks for that!

Welcome back José. I missed you. Your garden reminds me of my grandfather's garden. He had every fruit and veggie growing in his garden. I loved going over there and plucking fresh figs, apples, strawberries, and more. You name it, he could grow it. I, on the other hand, can't keep a plastic plant alive.😂 It's so sweet that you put roses on Max's desk for him. And I'm glad you're keeping him from getting burned out. Some of the other creators I follow have put out videos stating they need to slow down and do less videos. It's important to have a good work-life balance, but if you love what you do, it can take over without you realizing it. I'm glad Max has you to keep that from happening. The new babies are adorable. Was that Milo at the end? That's the exact toy I got for my cat, and she loves that thing. Well, take care. I will be looking forward to garden updates and mean tweets episodes in the future.❤😊

I'm a dumb poop, and had no idea that this channel existed, and I'm delighted to have found it, better late, than never. The Tasting History Cookbook was a proud addition to my vast collection of cookbooks, and has brought me, and hungry friends, much pleasure. I would love to see you do something about about Richard Olney, the American in France who had such an influence on cooking from the garden, a huge influence on Alice Waters. Also the food writer, Clementine Paddleford, all but forgotten, who was passionate about American cuisine. Hello, Jose! I'm a crazy rose grower, and have many David Austin roses. My two favorites are The Ancient Mariner, and Lady Emma Hamilton. The latter is a real crowd pleaser. All the best to you both!

Hi Jose and Max! This is my first Ketchup experience and I loved it! Just subscribed! There are lots of things I enjoyed in this video and would love to see more of: gardening for sure. Container citrus fruits and other plants, like a small deep dive, would be so interesting. I love how you two are together: The ease of interaction and loving looks at each other (you do that!) kind of make me as the viewer feel like I'm in a safe and happy place. Thank you, Jose and Max ❤

Oh, I'm all about container fruits including citrus becauuuuse I don't have an orchard and keeping them in pots keeps the trees smaller. I'll make sure to call those out in next video.

So fun to see an update here. I think both of you should take some comfort in knowing you’ve cultivated a loyal audience. We will be excited to see new content no matter when it comes, so please don’t push yourselves too hard to meet self-imposed deadlines. I really appreciate the effort you both put in. And damn, Jose is such a real one for filtering out the hate comments- and putting so much work into subtitles. A lot of people I love are HoH and good subtitles make such a big difference for them! Seriously though. One of my very favorite KZbin channels updates maybe?? Once a month. And he’s doing great. Whatever y’all need to do to take care of yourselves and your kitties is what you should do. Much love from OH.

Max I’m in love with this channel and your personality- the fun accents and eyebrow raises and perfectly timed pauses and reactions to tasting your creations. You have great comedic style without trying. When you’re without a kitchen, do a video for us deep diving a walk thru Jose’s garden and show us everything that’s growing. I also think a backyard BBQ video for the 4th of July would be great. I’ll be in England in June too (Bath) but I’ll miss you and I’m so bummed about that!

YAY!!! I’ve missed Ketchup!!! I’ve loved your current kitchen (especially the stove)! I know you will love a new stove, but the history associated with the other one was really the “icing on the cake” for Tasting History. 😂 The current kitchen has at least been an improvement over your first kitchen that wasn’t even big enough for you to film in. I’m excited to see the remodel, but not nearly as much as you guys are I’m sure. Tasting History kitchen history!😊 Doing a show from your parents’ house would be fantastic for generational reasons! Side notes: While in England, eat at Fallow! They are not historic as far as their menu items per se, but they are setting the bar “historically” high for focusing on minimizing food waste. Plus, they have an open kitchen where you can watch the cooking being done. They post many of their recipes and the food sounds FANTASTIC!!!!! Getting the opportunity to dine at Fallow is totally on my bucket list. Also, as for trying to find a bookstore to host you, try getting in touch with the guys at Sorted Food to help you out. As a final note, I’ve missed José, yay Milo and Ollie (RIP Jaime 😢😢😢), and the garden sounds AMAZING, and good luck with the remodel!
