I have absolutely no idea what you're doing here!!! This comes with a spanner that looks like it fits the barrel for adjustment but you're smacking this with a hammer!!!!! I was going to order a set of these but I don't think I will. I'm not buying a precision instrument that needs smacking with a hammer to adjust it

The spanner is for light adjustment, like a .001" or so. What he is doing is moving the shim piece inside the thimble back and forth as its a friction fit to realign 0. If you noticed, it was a long ways off and no way was adjusting it with spanner going to make that kind of a difference.

@@oldiron4135 I bought a cheap set and one 4-5 in has a bad finish not flat or true on the spindle face so I can't get it to zero with the mic standard what would you suggest? Filing it flat? It still needs to be calibrated anyway.

Why not tell those watching what you are doing? A machinist would know, but someone trying to learn is no better off, in fact, probably worse off. Could be so informative, but is not.
