Excellent documentary. A reporter (Neil) who is factual, knowledgeable and doesn't shout at the viewer, uses intelligent language instead of the usual banal clichés and explains concepts skilfully. The best part: no irritating background sounds of drum machines or overly loud, boring, repetitive and completely unnecessary non-music. Well done and thank you.

The video says they plan to have biofuel by 2015, I wonder if they got things up and running. It is 2019 already.

Well the idea is a little older than I thought. Maybe Korea uses a slightly different method. Still a good idea.

I'm waiting for that day when we can use our own household trash to fuel our vehicles like Doc in Back to the Future.

Why not incinerate it directly? Gives lots more energy and no landfill needed. Here in The Netherlands we even import trash for our every hungry incinerators.

Picobyte good point, however I'm the Netherlands, I'm assuming its not a large landmass. So the trash has no where to go. In the US, land is plentiful and I'm betting our power/utility companies are going with cheaper to maintain land vs building and financing power plants. I live where electricity is produced via coal and more and more natural gas. Plus given various layers of laws and regulations and lobbying.

Part of the problem with an incinerator is that you still need a landfill to haul all the ash from that incinerator to for disposal. What many have been done g since the late 80's is WTE (waste to energy) or EFW (energy from waste) plants. Companies like Covanta and Waste Management have been building more and more of them since then, not only providing the community and the grid with power generated from their trash, but also still extending landfill site life by only hauling in the ash from the incinerators - in which the landfill sites are still doing the same by using the methane from the landfill to create even more electricity and supplying it back to the grid as well... Honestly, what better way to get our power and solve our trash problem at the same time??

Nice video! We took a tour through this facility two years ago and it is truly amazing! As the frozen tundra up north thaws and releases methane perhaps we can figure out a way of capturing and using it instead of having that GHG enter the atmosphere?
