Not sure about that info you were told about 001 cards - years back it 'seemed' (a story going around) that the shop staff would bag the first 'end of roll' card for themselves!

Talking about lotto cards, I knew someone when the national lotto draw was a pound, he used to switch tv stations to see whether the balls drawn were different numbers, which made us laugh.
