A tip. If you don’t understand his solution, which happened to me most of the times too, try looking up one of the highest upvoted solutions on the discussion page. Those solutions oftentimes have better explanation and walkthrough.

Ya, that's a fair point - I honestly underestimated how difficult people viewed this problem - or I would've gone in details more. It is a similar problem to a few problems in the past. I think the necessary details is there, but it does require a bit more practice to understand.

ok so this problem's solution is not intutive at all to build the intution i first did 1798. Maximum Number of Consecutive Values You Can Make then patching array was not that bad and ended up with a code very similar to larry's

@Algorithmist how did you made that observation? and concluded it is greedy, Also do you have any book recommendation on it?

Honestly by the response I underestimated how much trouble people had - I should've elaborated more - I do go over the essence but it is tough without the idea - but ultimately it is just practice

To be honest, I couldn't solve this problem. Initially, I though of a backtracking solution to cover all the possible combinations and I tried to add some DP logic to speed up things but I couldn't make it, I got TLE several times.

Try to analyze the constraints before coding. They are too large for backtracking and dp clearly

@@De1n1ol Actually I saw it, but at the same point, I convinced myself that maybe I could handle it if I combined backtracking with DP.
