Great video. My bug catcher butterflies don't have as much side to side as yours did. I did have to spend a bunch of time swapping them around every way you can imagine to get them to close better. I welded a plate on one side but I see you used epoxy. What kind of epoxy is that? Was your filter mount from Good Vibrations? It kind of looks like theirs.

The epoxy was Scotch-Weld 1838 B/A tube kit and the filter mount was from Good Vibrations.

That tolerance slop is pretty bad… For whatever reason the Enderle bug and birds all seem to be that way. BDS came out with their own bug and it is super slick. Has more of a radius on the flats between the butterflies, and the tolerances on their hat is much tighter…. I just bought an Enderle B&U 3, with 4.375” butterflies for my 565 8-71. I blocked one off, and it’s almost perfect. That’s 30 sq/in of butterfly… My old 850 carbs were only 19.25. So I’m 50% larger in area, but it’s loving it big time. It made 968 Hp with the 850’s on pump 93, that wet flow 780 CFM… It made a 1,050 with the B&U. So even though the size theory of butterfly is capable of a said amount of hp, never works out in the real world for some reason. The whole sq/in thing with all of these hats is kind of annoying… Like the B&U 1 is capable of having three, 5 9/16” butterflies… what the hell are you going to do with all that air lol. But they will always make more hp than a bird catcher… So even though the engine doesn’t “require” it, it still utilizes it..? Lol Salesman was trying to talk me into the disgusting and clumsy progressive linkage that always backs lose, and trying to get me to buy the B&U 3 with the 3 11/16” butterflies… I said nah, I’ll make it work with the 4.375” before I ever deal with that clumsy thing that looks like a$$… I don’t even run an iac valve… no issues at all if you know what you’re doing with Holley efi… 👍

No IAC valve, interesting, curious how the Holley EFI gets around that.

Good Vibrations, where I got the filter setup, said the sloppiness in the Enderle hats is caused by the casting process, like you said most of them are like that. But if the 3 holes are machined I don't see why they're not tighter tolerances in the butterfly area. Kinsler Fuel Injection said they could machine butterflies if the customer wanted it.

Holley’s IAC is about crap anyways. So having it vs not having it, can’t hardly tell. Every Holley EFI I’ve installed, if the engine has a healthy enough camshaft, forget about it. I’ve made IAC changes to no end, changed startup fuel table for cold and hot starts, and it always needs a little pedal. Besides you only want the IAC making slight changes. It’s mainly for cold start, and coming off throttle abruptly. Besides that it’s about useless. So without it, it functions like if it were carbureted… just have to use your foot hear and there… 👍@@aviationnut6574
