The one thing I feel like 343 missed with the OST is the rock and metal elements that were present in H2 and H3 that gave fights that punchiness and badassery

I think they were really trying to recreate the feeling from Halo: CE with the world design and mystery, and so the musical direction reflects that as well. Halo CE was less about how badass Master Chief was going to save humanity, and more about discovering the purpose and history of the Halo ring.
